Revenant Cave Rewards: Poll Blog

Revenant Cave Rewards: Poll Blog

Originele tekst

Revenant Cave Rewards: Poll BlogWe've listened to your feedback regarding the Revenant Cave rewards and would like to propose some changes alongside new rewards. If you haven't already, you can catch up on the previous update post here.As with all other Poll focused Dev Blogs, we want to take some time to collate your feedback. The poll is expected to go live in-game tomorrow, so get any feedback in as soon as possible!
AfbeeldingAmulet of Peril
We wanted the Revenant caves to be high risk, high reward in terms of loot. What if the same concept could be applied to gear?
The Amulet of Peril is a new tradeable rare drop from Revenant NPC's which has the ability to increase your strength bonus based on how low your active hitpoints are whilst in PvP combat.Players will need to have the amulet equipped and be in combat with another player for a set amount of time to charge it before strength bonus kicks in. This means it will not work when fighting against NPC's but will provide great bonuses for anyone in a PvP situation that is willing to risk having lower hitpoints. The amulet when uncharged would have the same offensive stats as an Amulet of fury, however, these stats would not change based on your % of hitpoints missing. Instead of applying scaling stats, the amulet would simply apply a scaling flat damage boost to all attack styles (Melee, Ranged and Magic) from +0% when uncharged, to +20% when fully charged.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingWith the above gear, the max hit of a player using a Super Strength potion and the Piety prayer, would be 50.
The amulet would charge based on the % of hitpoints the wearer has left, working in increments of 25. A player with 99 HP would have to be at 9 hitpoints or less to gain the maximum damage bonus from the amulet.
AfbeeldingThe above table shows the breakdown of how much extra damage a player would get based their remaining percentage of HP.
For the amulet to gain any additional damage, you must be in combat with your primary target for a minimum of 5 game cycles, which is equivalent to 3 seconds. If you attack a new target, this timer will reset.
Afbeelding
The amulet would apply in PvP combat only. This currently includes safe PvP areas too.Currently in most PvP situations, most players tend to sit at maximum HP throughout the entire fight. This means that other than a well-timed, or rather lucky special attack, there can be little opportunity to get a good kill. The purpose of the amulet is to mix up the current meta of sitting at full HP by giving players an incentive to risk being at lower HP.Being as low as 9hp is an extremely high risk. A well timed counter attack or vengeance could end the fight in an instant, and we expect the amulet to be a valuable item to protect. We're really excited to see how it gets used.
Poll QuestionShould Revenant NPC's within the cave have a chance to drop a new tradeable necklace, the Amulet of Peril, as described in the Dev Blog? The amulet would only be effective within PvP combat.

Dragon Slayer II Dev Update, Design Competition & Changes

Dragon Slayer II Dev Update, Design Competition & Changes

Originele tekst

Dragon Slayer II Progress & CompetitionTime flies when you're gaining XP. It's already been over a month since we announced and polled Dragon Slayer II! With a phenomenal 96% of you voting yes, it's one of the highest voted pieces of content we've ever worked on.Afbeelding
Dragon Slayer II is set to be one of the most challenging quest introduced to Old School RuneScape, and with the release date of 4th January now less than two months away, we wanted to give you an update on how things are progressing. Don't worry, we'll keep things spoiler free! And for those that want spoilers, you'll just have to wait until the quest releases! So how much of Dragon Slayer II have we got done so far? Quite a decent amount actually. Like with all our big projects, Dragon Slayer II has been broken down into lots of smaller jobs. As you can see from the doughnut graph below, we've already begun work on over half of the jobs and we've finished a third of them. All in all, we're well on track for the 4th January release.
AfbeeldingThis doughnut graph shows the status of each job making up the project.
Apart from a few assets, we already have a complete act 1 for the quest. In fact, we've had that for a couple of weeks now. Having a big section of the quest playable at this point is really helpful as it means we can start holding internal feedback playtests nice and early. Feedback is a very important part of the development process. After all, we want to make this quest as good as possible. We regularly hold internal playtests where people from the Old School team and beyond will sit down and play through a piece of content. The feedback from our first playtest has already resulted in various improvements being made to the content.
AfbeeldingInternal playtests are a good opportunity for us to get feedback on the project.
We don't just look for feedback internally of course. We also try to get the player base involved wherever possible. We've already held three design streams for Dragon Slayer II. These streams are more than just a chance for us to show off what we're doing, they're also a chance for us to get feedback on what we are showing. So, we know that progress is going well on the quest, but the quest isn't all that's coming with this project. We also have some nice rewards for you as well. Development has already finished on Vorkath, the new solo boss, and the Adamant & Rune Dragons are not far from completion either. High level monsters like these often require plenty of fine tuning to get them perfect and we've given ourselves plenty of time to do just that. We won't be doing it alone though, we're looking to bring in some of our top content creators to have a go at these monsters and see what they think!Visits like this are valuable to us as it gives us an opportunity to gather real-time feedback from players interacting with the content.
AfbeeldingArt and development don't necessarily work on the same content at the same time. In the case of Vorkath, placeholder assets have been used until art provides the final models.
With the first act of the quest done, and some of the biggest pieces of post-quest content out of the way, what's left to do? The next two acts of the quest are probably a good start. Work is already nearly finished on act 3, with it set for completion within the next week. We chose to focus on act 3 first as it is considered to be a larger priority than act 2. Of course, we fully intend to deliver a complete act 2 as well, we're just working on it later in development. As well as the quest, we also have a few more rewards to finish off and let's not forget the brand new F2P area we polled alongside Dragon Slayer II. We've already got a lot of the art in place for the new area and we're hoping to release it a bit before the main Dragon Slayer II launch. We'll continue to share our progress on Dragon Slayer II as we get closer to the release date. For now though, we'll get back to work.
AfbeeldingIt's Competition Time!
One of the rewards that will be coming alongside Dragon Slayer II is the Mythical cape, a new cape that offers a way to teleport into the Myth's guild.
AfbeeldingIf you missed out on the detail behind the cape you find it in the initial Dragon Slayer II Dev Blog.
If you've been keeping up with the design streams and developer updates, you'll have likely noticed we haven't showcased any designs for these capes yet... Whilst our artists love designing new things, we also love to see your own creations so we're opening up the design of the Mythical cape to the players! The winner of the competition will have their cape featured in-game and win an exclusive Dragon Slayer II goodie bag!You have to be in it to win it, so make sure you email your design to OldSchoolCommunity@Jagex.com with the subject line Mythical Cape Competition. Be sure to include your RuneScape username somewhere too! We're proposing placing the cape somewhere between the Cape of Legends and Fire cape, with the addition of some Crush Attack bonus. We want you to let your imagination run wild with the designs but keep in mind the cape cannot have any textures and any symbols/markings should be simple in form. Also, the cape will be darker than you might think when worn on a player character in-game, so keep that in mind when choosing a colour palette.
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
We will stop accepting submissions on November 24th and will select three designs to be put to a poll. The community will then vote to decide the winner of the competition, which will be whoever has the most votes at the end of said poll. Before submitting your design, make sure that you have read the competition terms and conditions.
AfbeeldingYour Feedback & Changes
During development and testing of Dragon Slayer II, we've noticed two main areas we'd like to bring to your attention and gather feedback on. The first is regarding Dragon Bolts. When we first polled the Dragon Bolts, we stated that you could add any bolt tip to them to gain the effect of the tips without increasing the base ranged strength.
Afbeelding
Afbeelding
Amethyst bolt tips can be attached to Broad bolts, increasing their ranged strength by +15. They have no special effect, so adding them to the Dragon bolts would have zero benefit. We'd like to hear your thoughts on if these should be added to the Dragon bolts. We won't be adding them as a cosmetic, so they would also increase the ranged strength of the bolts even further. This would need to be polled.
Afbeelding
The second point we'd like to raise is regarding Superior Dragon Bones dropping from Adamant and Rune dragons. In the Poll Dev Blog we proposed that both dragons would have a guaranteed drop of 1 bone per kill.
Afbeelding
Now that we've made great progress on the development of both dragons, we've realised that having a guaranteed drop rate of Superior Dragon Bones for both dragons was far too rewarding given their difficulty to kill. If we were to leave this and make no changes, killing the Adamant and Rune dragons may well be more profitable than the actual boss, Vorkath. This obviously is something we want to avoid, so as part of a game balance change we will be lowering the drop rate.
  • Both dragons will now drop standard Dragon Bones.
  • Adamant dragons will have a 1/5 chance to upgrade the Dragon Bones drop to Superior Dragon Bones.
  • Rune dragons will have a 1/3 chance to upgrade the Dragon Bones drop to Superior Dragon Bones.
We hope you understand the reasoning for this change. We want to ensure that the reward from the dragons matches their difficulty, and without making this change we cannot balance their drop tables fairly.

Protecting Game Integrity

Originele tekst

We're very proud of how proactive we are with the steps we take to counter rule-breaking. For the month of October the ICU team banned 237,923 bots in Old School alone. Alongside this the Player Support team are slowly rolling out a new process to tackle scammers, website advertisers, and those who engage in player-run games of chance. This news post addresses the following issues: Bot Prevention, Real World Trading via the Duel Arena, and ongoing issues with Disconnections. Protecting the competitive integrity of Old School RuneScape is essential to ensuring a more enjoyable playing experience for legitimate players. This post contains a number of changes to content which we feel will benefit you. It's important for us to point that the measures proposed here won't replace any measures we already have in place, but rather it's about what we, as a development team, can do to specific pieces of content to improve the Old School experience for genuine players. Note that any changes here will be implemented without a poll. However, we are intent on hearing what you have to say about any pitched changes, and we welcome alternative suggestions.
Afbeelding
Bot Prevention Methods
Everyday we ban thousands of bots in Old School, however we understand that some do slip through our net. We remain dedicated to ensuring that the anti-cheating team keeps growing, and the methods we use to detect bots keep advancing. Alongside this we've been discussing ways to tackle this via some in-game changes that will make commonly botted items more difficult to get for a bot, yet won't affect our genuine players. Any changes will in no way replace the incredible work done by Mod Weath and the rest of the ICU team. Changes to content are solely intended to see if we can improve your playing experience.

Box Traps

As it stands hunting Chinchompas is readily done by all accounts. We'd like to add completion of Eagles Peak as a requirement to use Box Traps. If this requirement is added then we'd make changes to the quest to ensure skillers would be able to complete it. Currently the player must kill a level 14 Kebbit to obtain a feather. The change we'd like to make would result in making the Kebbit flee to drop the feather. Again, this change will ensure that completion of the quest will not negatively impact specific account builds.

Anti-Dragon & Dragonfire Shields

We'd like to add starting the Dragon Slayer quest as a requirement to equip both the Anti-dragon shield and the Dragonfire shield. The intention of this would be to make botting dragons more difficult. Note that since only partial completion of Dragon Slayer is required, it shouldn't negatively affect skillers or pures (beyond making them reach the 32 Quest points needed to begin the quest).

Lundail's Arena-side Rune Shop (Mage Arena Rune Shop)

Lundail's shop, in the deep wilderness, is heavily abused by bots to buy cheap runes. We are considering adding completion of The Mage Arena miniquest as a requirement to be able to buy from this shop. This does require 60 Magic, and more exposure to the Wilderness so it will potentially negative impact builds aiming to stay below 60 Magic.

Magic Guild Store (Rune Shop)

The Guild shop is much more accessible than perhaps it should be. To combat this we'd like to add The Hand in the Sand as a requirement for purchasing runes from this shop. The association is formed because some of the quest requires interaction with the Magic Guild. The quest itself has very low requirements, and the rewards will not negatively impact the progress of specific account builds.

Zaff's Staves

Zaff's stocked battlestaves (not to be confused with the Diary reward) are frequently botted. The lack of any requirement whatsoever makes them a popular target. We've seen multiple suggestions, and we'd like to mention a number of our favourites and for further discussion to take place. Some players have posited removing the stocked battlestaves entirely (and leaving only the Diary rewards available), whilst others suggest locking access to them behind completion of the What Lies Below quest. We welcome all feedback and other suggestions you might have.

Stealing the Wine of Zamorak

The Monks of Zamorak currently only attack the player if the attempt to pick up the wine. They could also be made to attack when it is telegrabbed. In addition, the monks could have their stats increased to make them more dangerous. This would only affect the Wine spawn in the Asgarnian temple and not the one in the Wilderness. We welcome your feedback on the proposed changes.

Mage Training Arena: Enchanting Chamber

The Mage Training Arena can be a source of frustration to those having to compete with bots. To address this we'd like to add a Magic requirement of 68 to pick up Dragonstones in the Enchanting Chamber. This requirement wouldn't prevent players with a lower level from accessing the Chamber, they just wouldn't be able to pick up Dragonstones. 68 was chosen as it is the requirement to enchant Dragonstone jewellery.

Real World Trading through the Duel Arena
The Duel Arena is an iconic part of Old School RuneScape, yet it has its problems. The Duel Arena is currently fuelling Real World Traders that stake based on odds to acquire huge sums of in-game gold, which they then sell online. We do not want to remove the Duel Arena from the game as it's particularly iconic to the feel of Old School RuneScape. So we'd like to discuss some options with you in order to address the problems we face:

An option to adjust your stats, similar to the Tournament Worlds. This option would mean that the odds stakers lose their advantage, and we keep the Duel Arena open. A trade weighting limit on stakes which would prevent one side being heavily weighted over the other. This again is with the intention of stopping odds stakers. It would work akin to the trade limit of old. You can stake as much as you'd like, but your opponent has to stake an amount which is within a certain range of your stake.

Buy 50, Item Changes and QoL

Originele tekst

It's time to address the unaddressed and focus on some much requested QoL updates. Whilst most of this week will be focused on the results of Content Poll #57, such as updates to how the Serpentine Helmet envenoms NPCs with various weaponry and a buff to the Ahrim's staff, we do have a few other tweaks here and there added in for good measure.
AfbeeldingBuy 50
If you've ever been frustrated when having to buy multiple items from a shop in stacks of 10, you're in for a treat. All shops now have a Buy 50 option, allowing players to buy items in, well... Stacks of 50?
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
This change will not be live in King of the Skill worlds as to not impact strategies mid-way through the contest.
AfbeeldingSerpentine Helm
The Serpentine Helmet now gives a 50% chance to inflict venom when worn in conjunction with a poison-inflicting weapon, such as the Dragon Dagger Poisoned. This also applies to poisoned arrows and bolts, but not the Emerald bolts (e) special ability. Attacks that hit more than 0 will have the chance to trigger this effect and it will only apply to NPCs.
Afbeelding
In addition to this, it now gives a 100% chance to inflict venom when worn in conjunction with a venom-inflicting weapon, such as the Toxic Blowpipe. Attacks that hit more than 0 will trigger this effect and it will only apply to NPCs.
AfbeeldingPizzaz Hat
Destroying the Pizzaz Hat from Mage Training Arena will no longer wipe a player's Pizzaz points.
Afbeelding
That's one more bank space freed up for those that were holding on to one! Apologies to all Pizzaz Hats that are about to be destroyed. You thought you were needed, but you weren't.
AfbeeldingAhrim's Staff
Ahrim's staff has long been remembered as one of the worst magic weapons in the game, due to it being 2-handed. Those days are now behind us.
Afbeelding
Ahrim's staff is now 1-handed and also provides a 5% Magic damage increase.
AfbeeldingIn Other News

OSRS Mobile - An Update

OSRS Mobile - An Update

Originele tekst

This is where we are with Old School RuneScape Mobile, our biggest update ever.
Afbeelding
Where we are and what we've learned
Since announcing in July we've made lots of progress on OSRS Mobile with some playtests from players at RuneFest and an internal alpha build distributed amongst JMods. We've also had a build approved by the Apple App Store (at a basic level) and the Google Play Store.

We're the first MMORPG of serious scale to attempt full cross-platform support and a mobile-optimised interface. It's been a fascinating challenge so far but it is a far bigger project than what was originally thought!

We want to ensure that OSRS Mobile is released to players with optimal functionality whilst ensuring app safety and stability and for that reason we have pushed back the first beta.
Afbeelding
Afbeelding
When will you get your hands on it?
The development schedule shows that we should be able to start getting the app into the hands of players in January 2018, what a great way to start the new year! The build will be the first of many stages before we launch fully, as mentioned above, this is a mammoth task.

The first people to be selected will be chosen on account standing and device used. We'll be looking to expand the number of players with access to mobile once the initial testing stage is over. The most important thing to note is that we want to give you something that is polished, not something that's sub-standard, it'll be worth the wait.
Afbeelding

The build given to some players in January will be on the live servers so you can truly #AdventureAnywhere, whether it's on your PC or on mobile.
Afbeelding

What's next?
Over the next few weeks we will be releasing test data which will include storage used, data used per hour (on average), and battery life whilst playing. We've also got some fun ideas for video content, so in a couple of weeks you'll be able to see some JMods having a 1v1 battle on Mobile! Tweet us @OldSchoolRS to let us know who should be the first JMods to battle on mobile.

If you missed our last post on OSRS Mobile you can read it here, and you can join the #OSRSMobile discussion on our forums, on Twitter, and on Reddit.

DMM Beta Playthrough

Originele tekst

Ahead of the end of the Deadman Winter Finals on December 9th we're conducting a beta playthrough of the Permadeath stages. The beta playthrough will take place on Thursday 23rd November and this is everything you need to know.
Afbeelding
Deadman Winter Finals: Permadeath playthrough
This upcoming Thursday 23rd November we'll be hosting a beta playthrough of the final stages of the Deadman Winter Finals. First, we'd like to address a few concerns we've seen regarding the beta. Some have questioned why the beta is taking place on Thanksgiving (happy Thanksgiving!). It's common knowledge that our game updates take place on Thursdays, and the beta requires a game update to get it into game. We'd like to be able to act on feedback and potential issues as quickly as possible, which would then allow for any fix to occur on Thursday following the playthrough, which could then see fixes tested on Friday. Some have argued that we should have set aside spots reserved for those who have qualified. We have opted not to do so because it's important to note that the purpose of the beta playthrough is to determine that the mechanics in-game work as expected, and it's not an opportunity to practise and refine your game plan. An open first-come first-served playthrough will ensure that the world will be at capacity and will ensure the best possible feedback.
Afbeelding
The playthrough specifics:

The beta playthrough will take place on Thursday 23rd November at 2pm GMT (9am EST)

The playthrough is going to be held on World 407.

The world will be accessible from 2pm GMT (9am EST) and you will be given a 15 minutes to login and prepare.

The playthrough begins properly at 2:15pm GMT (9:15am EST).

The event is expected to last around 90 minutes but will run through to its completion.

The supply chests will not be included in the beta playthrough (the contents and mechanics of these chests will be communicated in the coming days).

You will login and be given this inventory and this gear:

If you're intending to take part we recommend revisiting the content changes for the Winter Finals. Some standout changes you should be aware of are:

We will evenly split players between the two final areas: Barbarian Village and the Demonic Ruins in the Wilderness.

Players will be assigned to one of the above final area locations randomly once the Permadeath stage begins, with the fog being specific to each player.

The last surviving 64 players in each final area (128 players in total) will be transported to the Arenas (see the bottom of this section for example images). The arena structure is as follows:

Bracket 1: 128 players | 64 ArenasBracket 2: 64 players | 32 ArenasBracket 3: 32 players | 16 ArenasBracket 4: 16 players | 8 ArenasBracket 5: 8 players | Quarter-finalBracket 6: 4 players | Semi-finalBracket 7: 2 players | Final

Mage Arena II, Revenant Caves & Deadman Beta

Mage Arena II, Revenant Caves & Deadman Beta

Originele tekst

Mage Arena II, Revenant Caves & Deadman BetaThis week we see the return of the infamous Revenant caves, alongside an expansion to the Mage Arena! Those willing to venture into the Wilderness will be able to unlock a new best in slot cape for Magic and gain access to a whole host of additional NPC's for Wilderness Slayer.
Afbeelding
Mage Arena II
Kolodion, master of battle magic, has a new challenge for anyone brave enough to venture back into deep Wilderness.Players with 75+ Magic who have completed the original Mage Arena and unlocked the ability to cast all God spells outside of the Mage Arena will find a new option when chatting to Kolodion.
Afbeelding
The challenge is to track down and defeat 3 demons, found in random locations within deep multi-combat Wilderness. In order to locate them, Kolodion will hand you a Hot/Cold device which will draw you closer to the spawn location (using this device will cause damage to the player, so you must be conservative with its usage). When close enough, one of the 3 demons will spawn depending on which you were tracking at the time. Only the player who summoned the demon can attack it - even in a multiway area. If you take too long to find any of the 3 spawn locations, all 3 will be reset and assigned new spawn points!
Afbeelding
The new variant of the God capes will work just like the current ones do in their combination with the God staves and spells. When you defeat a demon, it will drop a unique heart. You must defeat all three demons and then take Kolodion one of each heart. These cannot be banked. Once Kolodion has all 3 hearts, he will upgrade one God cape for you. This will consume your old God cape and replace it with the newer upgraded version. To upgrade another variant of the God capes, you must repeat the process of tracking down and defeating at least one of the demons!
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
You'll want to be very careful when using the capes. If you die whilst wearing one the magic sealed within it will fade. When this happens, both the imbued and original God version of the capes will be reclaimed and lost! This will not apply to any area that is classed as a safe death however, and the cape will be recoverable from any service that offers an item reclaim function.
AfbeeldingRevenant Caves
Revenant Caves are coming to Old School!Known to be one of, if not the best, Wilderness related money making methods. The Revenant Caves are filled with higher-levelled Wilderness monsters and an entirely new NPC, Revenants. Alongside offering a great way to utilise Wilderness Slayer, you can expect to make an attractive amount of profit whilst training here!
Afbeelding
The caves are multi-way combat throughout, apart from the entrances and a small area within. You'll find many high-level shortcuts and escapes routes though, providing helpful ways for players to slip out of reach should they find themselves in a difficult situation. The lowest required Agility level for the shortcuts is 65, with the highest Agility level required 89. All monsters within the caves are included within the Wilderness Slayer monster list, with Revenants being the newest addition. Some of these will prove quite the challenge to defeat, so ensure you enter the caves prepared! The higher level the Revenant is, the better chance it has of dropping an item.
AfbeeldingBracelet of ethereum
The Bracelet of ethereum is dropped by Revenants found within the cave. Although it has no stats, you can charge the bracelet with a new tradeable consumable item; Revenant ether, which are a guaranteed drop from Revenants.
Afbeelding
Once charged, wearing the bracelet will cause Revenants to no longer be aggressive towards you. In addition to this, you will become immune to their attacks. However, each attack will drain 1 charge from the bracelet. Once all of the charges have been consumed, the bracelet will revert to its uncharged form which loses the effect. This item will most certainly be a requirement to stay in the caves for any length of time. The Bracelet of ethereum has an alch value of 43200gp and will always be dropped on death. It can never be protected by the default 3 items kept when unskulled, via using the prayer Protect Item, or a combination of the two. Any ether used to charge the bracelet are also dropped on death.
AfbeeldingRevenant Cave Teleport Scroll
Getting to and from the Revenant caves can be a time-consuming process. Luckily, all Revenant NPC's have a small chance of dropping a tradeable Revenant cave teleport scroll, which can be used to teleport to the lower wilderness-level entrance of the caves.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingAncient Crystals
Ancient crystals are a new rare tradeable resource that drop from Revenants. These are used to build a player owned Wilderness Obelisk, which allows a one-way teleport to any of the 6 current Wilderness obelisk locations, chosen at random. Buffs, Deadman and Mythical Cape Designs

Originele tekst

Buffs, Deadman and Mythical Cape DesignsThis week we cover some of the buffs included in our most recent QoL poll with improvements made to the Ardougne Diary cape, Leaf Bladed Battleaxe and the Chronicle. We also make some tweaks to the Revenant Caves and Mage Arena II, as well as announce the Mythical Cape design submissions.
Afbeelding
Looting Bag
You can now use the Settings option on the Looting bag. This controls what happens when you 'Use' stacks of items on the bag. By default, the bag asks how many you want to store, but you can now choose to skip that menu, and always store as many as possible of the selected item.
AfbeeldingAfbeeldingThe default option is ... ask how many to store.
AfbeeldingArdougne Diary Cape
The Ardougne Medium Diary Cape has had its Farming Patch teleport limit increased to 3, and the Ardougne Hard Diary Cape has had its Farming Patch teleport limit increased to 5.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingLeaf Bladed Battleaxe
The Leaf-bladed Battleaxe should prove more useful. It will now deal 17.5% more damage against both Kurasks and Turoths, and has had its slash accuracy increased from 50 to 72.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingChronicle
The Chronicle is a little more effective and will now hold up to 1,000 charges. The daily buy-limit has been increased to 100 to better reflect the stock levels, as mentioned in the previous poll blog.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingMythical Cape Design Competition
We recently ran a design competition, announced in this newspost. After reviewing all of the submissions, some of which were very interesting, we've whittled it down to the team favourites of those that are possible. Now we need your help! The below capes are the 3 we need you, the community, to decide which is the best and should be added to the game. The capes will be added to a poll in-game tomorrow and will remain open until next week. The highest voted option will be deemed the winner!
Afbeelding
It is worth pointing out that most of the designs we received included a logo of some sorts. Although the quest is called 'Dragon Slayer II', the guild has been around for a very long time and has a very diverse group of members. Not all of them are famous dragon slayers and thus there is no logo for the guild, so we have removed them from all designs. This is something we should have made clearer at the time, but rest assured no decision was made based on the addition of a logo.

Soon, players will once again be visiting the land of snow and helping Santa out.As with all other seasonal events, we want to keep much of this update under wraps. There won't be long until the full story is uncovered, but until then, you'll have to make do with the below image!

King of the Skill has officially ended! We will be spending the next few days going through the top ranks for all skills and the total level category before announcing the winners. We want to make sure the competition has been fair, so we will be undertaking thorough checks to ensure only the most deserving winners are rewarded. Bericht door Bot »

The Corsair Curse and Wilderness Chaos Altar

Originele tekst

The Corsair Curse and Wilderness Chaos AltarDragon Slayer II is nearing completion but rather than make you wait until the 4th January, we've decided to release The Corsair Curse quest early! Alongside this, we bring forward the changes to the Chaos Altar as proposed in the Wilderness Rejuvenation II and your usual QoL and bug fixes.
Afbeelding
The Corsair Curse
From the newly revealed town of Corsair Cove, deep in the south of Feldip Hills, the captain of the Corsairs has sailed to Port Sarim seeking help. His crew is sick, and he suspects that a curse has been laid upon them.If you can unravel the fearful and conflicting tales of ogre relics, vengeful mermaids and demonic possession, maybe you can help his ailing crew overcome The Corsair Curse.
Afbeelding
Captain Tock himself can be found at the crossroads north of Port Sarim, and has moored his ship next to the Rusty Anchor bar nearby. It's a novice quest, requiring only that one defeat a level 35 mage and be unafraid of level 82 ogres.
Afbeelding
Corsair Cove, and the quest, are completely accessible to non-members; Captain Tock will provide free transport for anyone who's started his quest. For members, the charter ships provide an alternative route and there's a short-cut from the southern reaches of the Feldip Hills as well as a Spirit tree teleport.Along with the new quest, Corsair Cove features maple trees (which non-members can cut if they have completed the original Dragon Slayer), fishing spots and a new training area filled with level 82 ogres under the command of Chief Tess. You'll have to help the Corsairs before they'll let you use the bank, though.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingThe Chaos Altar
The Chaos Temple found within level 38 of the Wilderness, west of the Lava Maze, has received a lucrative buff for any adventurer brave enough to travel there. Players can sacrifice bones on the Chaos Altar inside the temple with a 50% chance for the bone to not be consumed in the process of offering. The base XP gained is the same as a Gilded altar with 2 lit burners.
Afbeelding
There is an NPC stood near the altar which will un-note any bones you hand them for a fee. The cost for this is 50gp per bone. This is the only benefit the NPC offers.
AfbeeldingMythical Cape Competition
The Mythical Cape competition has come to an end! The winning design was decided by a majority vote and huge congratulations go out to JackScape! Rumour has it that there may be a certain new area in game being added today that may have a certain item on display...
Afbeelding
Make sure you meet the requirements for Dragon Slayer II in preparation for the release on the 4th January in order to get your very own cape!Afbeelding
AfbeeldingGive as You Pay
As of Monday 4th December, we started trialling a new initiative that allows you to round up payments to the next whole value, should you wish to - with the round up excess going to our partner charities. All those pennies add up!We'll be testing this out for a few weeks to get your feedback before making any widespread, permanent changes. This means that, for the meantime, only some of you will have the option to give using this method. For those who do, it will be completely opt-in and transparent: if you don't tick the box, no extra funds will be donated, and how much you're giving will be made clear in the basket summary.

It's Christmas TimeThis week is our final update of the year so we're going out in style! 2017's Christmas event is sure to be one to remember!

Christmas 2017
Lots of people like a Christmas vacation; Santa is no exception. While he's taking this remarkably ill-timed break, he's deputised the Wise Old Man of Draynor Village to fill in for him. The Wise Old Man has a mixed reputation for honesty, but he's definitely got the right kind of beard. So what could possibly go wrong?
Afbeelding
Afbeelding
The event will be in-game until the 4th January 2018, giving plenty of time to head on over to Draynor village and lend a helping hand this festive season!
AfbeeldingWhat Now?
Once again, we'd like to point out that this will be our last scheduled update of the year! The next scheduled update will be on the 4th January which will see the release of Dragon Slayer II!Whilst there will be many projects not listed below which we're actively working on (like mobile), here's a few things you can expect to see throughout 2018:
  • We are anticipating there will be plenty of feedback on the new training activities and rewards introduced as part of Dragon Slayer II and will be ready to make any changes when necessary.
  • We'll be looking to clear up the remaining QoL offerings from October's Poll, such as the new leather shields, adjustments to fossil island from our previous poll and the Farming timer re-work.
  • The Barbarian Assault Range Rework is ready for testing, so should be expected to be made live for early next year.
  • February will primarily be a QoL month alongside focusing on Old School's 5th birthday!
  • March we'll be looking at the next round of Deadman game modes alongside Easter.
  • Whilst all of this is happening, Raids 2 will be in development! We'll be spending as much time as possible collecting your feedback on the mechanics whilst working closely to find suitable rewards.
2017 has been a fantastic year for Old School RuneScape and we couldn't have done it without you. We hope you all have a fantastic Winter break and we look forward to seeing you all in-game over the coming weeks! Here's to 2018!
AfbeeldingIn Other News
12 Days of Dragon Sleigher will begin from the 25th December! This is a brand new community event in which players will be given daily riddles via our Twitter, Facebook and Instagram to solve in game. This will then cause 20 minutes of holiday items to spawn based on how many people are in the location at the time! Make sure you keep on eye on all of our social channels! The Mage Arena II miniquest is now listed in the correct colour on the quest list. A confirmation message has been added for players trying to bury bones in the temple where the new Prayer-training activity is. The Santa and Anti Santa boots have been adjusted to fix some graphical issues caused when combined with certain items.

Wilderness Rejuvenation II
As with every update we release, we like to take time to look back and assess it. When looking back at Wilderness Rejuvenation II, we can see many things that went well. The content achieved its desired impact of improving Wilderness activity (as shown in this graph from the 2017 Data Stream), and members of the PvP community have largely praised the content. Unfortunately, there are quite a few things that we could have, and more importantly, should have done better. It's clear that we didn't meet your expectations. The overall synergy between content and graphics in particular was not up to your standards. This post is our commitment to resolve what we see as the current major issues with the update. During early 2018, we want to focus on the following:
  • Adjusting the Revenant graphics. It seems many have mixed opinions on how these should look. Your feedback is encouraged. Do you want them to pay homage to the Revenants of old?
  • Addressing the drops within the Revenant Cave to better align with the polled GP rates. Once again, your feedback is welcomed. The caves currently do not offer close to what we polled.
  • Rework the Mage Arena 2 boss mechanics to make it feel more challenging.
  • Completely recreate the Mage Arena 2 boss graphics with new assets.
  • Nerf the Twisted bow's effectiveness in Mage Arena 2.
  • Expand on the story and ensure Mage Arena 2 follows typical lore.
  • Consider enhancing the power of charged God spells vs the Mage Arena 2 bosses.

AfbeeldingW345 Permanent Deadman
World 345 is the Permanent Deadman world. Unlike the Seasonal Deadman servers, this server does not reset and many of the QoL updates introduced to the Seasons are not required. We'd like to start discussing applying major content changes, as well as applying some of the more fitting QoL changes which already exist within Seasons. The aim of this would be to help bring more life to the server. The changes we'd like to make are as below:
  • The addition of a Grand Exchange has long been the most popular and requested change to the server. We're very much aware of that, but haven't been able to deliver it due to the nature of the work involved in the setup and ongoing maintenance of the extra server, as well as reprogramming the game engine to communicate with it. Ideally, we'd like to introduce this alongside all changes listed below, but it may not be possible. We are, however, very keen to get this for you in future if the required resources can become available for it.
  • We've always said transferring XP from the seasonal servers to the permanent one isn't possible, nothing has changed there. An alternative option we'd like to explore is the option of rewarding players that have done well in the Seasonal Deadman server by giving them a bonus XP multiplier for a certain period of time in the Permanent Deadman world. We cannot give a timescale as to when this may happen, but we're working on putting together the best solution possible.
  • The ability to un-note food was one of the first major changes we made to the seasonal. Although many have accustomed themselves to using this method, it encourages too safe of an environment. With this in mind we'd like to remove it.
  • In addition to preventing players un-noting food, we want to remove the ability to eat/drink potions the instant the bank interface closes by adding the same delay found in the Seasonal Deadman servers.
  • We'd like the PoH Spec Pool nerf from Seasonal Deadman servers to be added. This would prevent players from using it for 3 minutes after combat.
  • Player versus Player combat within safe zones has been disabled for a long time within the Seasonals. We'd like to make this change on the Permanent Deadman world too.
  • We'll be investigating ways to prevent players using low cost gear to farm high level content due to no XP lost on death whilst unskulled.
  • We want to look at lowering the cost of unique untradeable items purchased with bespoke currencies, such as the Rune pouch.
  • We're going to look into the PJ timer and how it can be improved.
  • One of the biggest changes is to introduce a 6-hour immunity for new accounts with a vastly increased experience rate, such as 50x. This immunity would be lost upon attacking another player or by speaking to the Doomsayer within Lumbridge.
  • In addition to the immunity, we want to vastly increase the effectiveness of the starter gear that is given from the Lumbridge Tutors (which can only be used whilst the 6-hour immunity is active). This will include making the Training Sword/Shield be equivalent to Rune items, the Mage Tutor giving an improved Elemental staff, and the Ranged Tutor giving the equivalent of what is a Magic shortbow.
  • We do not want to change the base XP rates outside of the immunity period mentioned above.
As always, we welcome your feedback on the proposed suggestions. All feedback regarding the W345 Permanent Deadman server changes should be directed to this forum thread.
