OSRS Mobile: Android Always On - More Invites

Originele tekst

The Android beta has been 'Always On' for nearly two weeks. We're happy with how it's going so far, so it's time to invite more of you!

AfbeeldingMobile FAQ & Phishing Prevention
A regularly-updated FAQ for all #OSRSMobile queries can be found at https://www.runescape.com/oldschool/mobile/mobile-faq. If you have any questions we'd recommend you consult that page. Should any questions remain unanswered you can join the discussion via #OSRSMobile on Twitter, or use the title 'Android Beta' on Reddit.

For your convenience, here are some answers to questions we see asked more often than others:

  • How can I apply to be invited to the closed beta tests if I missed the sign-ups last year?

Unfortunately we don't expect to re-open sign-ups for closed tests. The honest answer is that we're still seeing massive installation and usage rates for each group of players we invite. With this in mind, we're confident we have the testers we need to continue with closed tests.

  • I signed up last year but I have since changed my device (Android to iOS / iOS to Android). How can I amend my sign-up?

The answer is similar to the one above. As we're still seeing massive installation and usage rates for each group of players we invite, we're confident we have the testers we need to continue with closed tests.

  • I was/wasn't invited to a previous beta. Does this affect my chances of being invited now?

Previous involvement (or lack of) in a previous beta does not affect your chances of being chosen. Each test specifically involves individuals who belong to whichever cohort we're targeting.

  • I don't have access to the RuneScape account, or the I don't have access to the email I signed up with, can you change it? / I don't remember what RuneScape account or what email I used to sign up with. Can you tell me?

We regret to announce that we won't be facilitating any requests for reminders or changes to either the email addresses or the RuneScape accounts with which you can access the beta. There simply just isn't scope to do this for so many individuals.
Please remember that any email sent to you will always be accompanied by an inbox message. For Android invites you will receive an email from Jagex which contains a link to the Play Store application. For iOS invites you will receive an email from Apple which contains a link to TestFlight (Apple's format for testing applications) and instructions on how to access the Old School RuneScape application. Anything else is fake, and should be disregarded.

Please see the Fake Mobile Betas support article for more information.
AfbeeldingMore 'Always On' Invitations!
Over the course of the day we'll be sending invitations to the RuneScape inbox of another 12,000 players. This time around we'll be inviting players using all supported Android devices:

Samsung Galaxy S5, S6/S6 Edge, S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8 Plus, S9/S9 Plus, One OnePlus 3/3T/5, Nexus 6P, Google Pixel/XL/2/2 XL.

Today the players will have received an inbox message. On Friday they'll receive another inbox message and an email which contain instructions to access Old School RuneScape on Mobile. To clarify: today's inbox message confirms that you are invited to participate. Friday's messaging (inbox message and email) will direct you to the Old School RuneScape application.

Please note that you may not receive the email: if you've opted out of receiving communications from us via your Email & Comms Preferences in your Account Settings, if your email provider filters communications from us (please see the Not Receiving Emails support article), or if you've accidentally typo'ed your email address. Where possible we have manually amended typo'ed email suffixes (everything to the right of the @ symbol). Finally, it's entirely possible that you're checking a different email from the one you first signed up with.
AfbeeldingThe Invites
The messaging spoken about in this section pertains to Friday's messaging only. The invitations themselves contain instructions on how to access Old School RuneScape, education on phishing, troubleshooting advice, and also how you should go about giving us feedback.

Within the email and the inbox message is a 16-character code. This code is purely for purposes of authenticity. It does not need to be entered anywhere.

Both the email and the inbox message contain a link to Old School RuneScape on the Play Store. When this link is followed, and you are logged into the correct Play Store account, you'll see the below messaging:
Afbeelding
To access Old School RuneScape on Mobile you simply need to follow the instructions once you click the Become A Tester button.

It's entirely possible that you're not seeing the above message once you follow the link in your email and your inbox message. In which case, you'll see the below messaging:
Afbeelding
This simple answer to you being met by the App not available messaging is that the Google Play account you're logged into does not have access to the Android beta. Ensure that you were actually invited, and you didn't find your way to the page by a link provided by somebody else. Make sure you're logged into the correct Google Play account. If you have multiple accounts signed in simultaneously, it could be helpful to log out of all other Google Play accounts. If you're unable to remember which Google Play account you signed up with then I'm afraid we aren't able to help with either a reminder, or by changing which account has access. There simply just isn't scope to do this for so many individuals.
AfbeeldingFeedback and Known Issues
The feedback you supply is incredibly important to us and directly impacts the development of Old School RuneScape Mobile, so please visit the Old School Mobile Testing Forum, found in the Old School area of the forums. You must first log in to the forums on the account invited to the beta in order to be able to see & access the Old School Mobile Testing forum. Be sure to take note of issues listed in the Known Issues thread.

For your reference, here are some issues currently known to us:
  • Some minigame (for example: Volcanic mine) interfaces overlap with the side panels on certain devices.
  • Changing device Operating System settings while the app is running may cause it to crash.
  • Some background audio apps (Spotify, etc) may be interrupted by in-game audio.
AfbeeldingiOS Testing
When we first announced that Android was going Always On we addressed why it wasn't possible to begin a similar test for iOS. As it stands we're in a position to turn the Android 'Always On' because of the Play Store's review policy. Unfortunately we aren't able to turn the iOS build 'Always On' because Apple require a 2 day review process. Long-term we are confident that we have a solution to this, but this isn't yet in place. This means that every update would see the iOS build become unavailable until our submission for review has been approved. There's no set date for the next iOS test, but we'll keep you informed as soon as we have more information to share.

RuneScape Classic: Farewell

Bericht door Bot »

RuneScape Classic: Farewell

Originele tekst

RuneScape Classic was the first version of RuneScape, released in 2001.

For many years we've left all of the content from the original game available to play. Whilst it's seemingly been happily plodding along since then, it is with great sadness that we have taken the difficult decision to say goodbye to RuneScape Classic, which we will be winding down over the next 3 months.

Afbeelding

It has been amazing to see such dedication amongst those of you who have kept playing RuneScape Classic over the last few years, some of you have even managed to reach max total! However, it's not all fun and games.

With advancements in technology helping to further support both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape, our tools are no longer compatible with Classic. This is particularly a problem with our community safety and macro detection tools. The game is now easily abused with the use of 3rd party macro tools, and botting has become an increasing issue.

Afbeelding

We've not fully supported RuneScape Classic for years, so why are we suddenly seeing it as a problem now? The truth is that bots and lack of community safety tools are serious problems, however, we also feel that we can no longer offer long term service reliability due to the growing risk of unrecoverable game breaking bugs.

The number of bugs is getting worse, and we're gradually seeing the game breaking. It's important to highlight these are bugs which we won't fix, most of them we can't fix due to the unsupported nature of the game.

Afbeelding

As such, rather than have the game break indefinitely without any warning, we wanted to give everyone the opportunity to have their last goodbyes.

The RuneScape Classic servers will be taken offline on the 6th of August 2018. After such date, it will no longer be possible to log in to the game. You will still be able to make full use out of any outstanding membership time you have up until that date, and any remaining membership will remain valid for both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.

Thank you for your support over the years.

Deadman: Survey, Summer Finals, and Autumn Season

Originele tekst

We recently surveyed Deadman players on some content changes, now we'd like your participation! We announce details of the Summer Finals, and the Autumn Season which will begin on June 30th!

AfbeeldingDeadman Mode Survey
Over the weekend we surveyed players who recently participated in the Deadman Spring Finals and the Deadman Summer Season. We wanted their thoughts on recent content changes, prospective content changes, and some bigger hypothetical changes too. Please do note that the contents of the survey is not an exhaustive list of everything we'd like to do with Deadman. We see great value in the use of surveys, and you can expect us to send more surveys in the future.

We'd now like all Old School RuneScape players to share their thoughts. Take the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/8M6QVYM

It'll take you around 10 minutes to complete. We want you to be honest, to utilise all areas which allow you to enter text responses freely, and to tell us what you'd like to see surveyed in future.
AfbeeldingDeadman Summer FinalsAfbeelding
The Deadman Summer Finals will begin on Saturday 23rd June (time to be confirmed), and will end on the evening of Saturday 30th June (time to be confirmed). The dedicated Deadman Tournament information page will be updated this coming Friday once tickets become available. The page will be updated to extensively cover all content changes. In the meantime, some key information for you can be found below:

The Finals are being held at ESL in Leicester on Saturday 30th June. Tickets will go on sale this coming friday.

The format will remain the same as in previous Finals: Permadeath stage will begin and Fog will appear. Players are separated into two final zones. The survivors of each zone are then teleported to commence a series of 1v1 battles.

Some new changes for the Finals include:
  • Swapping and Muling is a bannable offence. (Carried over from the Seasons).
  • Dragons now drop double the amount of bones. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Tuna, Lobster, Swordfish, Shark, Karambwan, Dark crab, and Anglerfish fishing spots will yield 3x the amount of fish resources. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • All random unnoted herb drops from NPCs are now doubled. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Every NPC in-game will have a chance at landing on an additional drop table that contains highly sought-after supplies. The chance is determined by the combat level of the NPC. Bosses will have an increased chance of hitting this table and Superior Slayer Creatures will have a guaranteed chance. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • The Giant mole will now drop double the amount of Claws and Hides. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • The number of potions and secondary ingredients from the Deadman-specific Barrows droptable has been tripled. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • The restocking speed of the stores of the Rune and Arrow stores has been substantially increased. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Players will have the ability to lock (and unlock) XP gain. This is toggled by talking to Nigel in Lumbridge. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • All Zeah House favour is set to 100%. The Architectural Alliance miniquest is also completed, meaning favour is locked. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Every player will have the Bigger and Badder Slayer perk unlocked from the very start. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Pyramid tops, found atop the Agility Pyramid, will turn to cash upon death. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • The Tome of Fire droprate has been increased by x10. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Burnt page drops will have double the number of pages. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Mysterious emblems are now worth double the number of points when traded in. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Starter packs will be available, each reclaimable once per day. They cannot be used in PvP. They are not tradeable, except where specified. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Reduce the maximum fog damage in the 1v1 arenas to 2s.
  • Increase the duration of the 1v1 banking phase to 10 minutes.
  • Allow login temporarily after a player logs out during the permadeath stage at the discretion of Jagex.
  • Allow the first section of the Permadeath stage to be paused at the discretion of Jagex.
In the aftermath of the Spring Finals we said that we'd have a clear player-facing contingency plan in place ahead of the beginning of the Finals. Great progress has been made, but it is not yet in a position to be publicly shared. The last three changes on the above list are a result of the actions from the contingency plan. We'll share more with you as and when we are able to.
AfbeeldingDeadman Autumn SeasonAfbeelding
The Deadman Autumn Season will begin on Saturday 30th June (time to be confirmed, but it will begin with the end of the Summer Finals). Once the Season content has been finalised, following your feedback, the dedicated Deadman Season information page will be updated.

In the Deadman Survey (found atop this page), we asked for your opinion on a number of prospective changes. The surveyed changes, among others we've added following your feedback, can be found below:
  • Remove the Event RPG.
  • Stop the warriors guild doors from cancelling damage.
  • Increase the number of potions and secondaries given by the global deadman drop table by 25%.
  • NPCs with a combat level of 100+ will have a 1/300 chance of dropping a tier 5 emblem in addition to other drops.
  • Add an NPC to Lumbridge that allows players to teleport to either Falador, Varrock, Seers Village, Ardougne or Tree Gnome Stronghold once per day.
  • Double the drop rate of the Abyssal whip, the Leaf bladed battleaxe, the Dragon plateskirt, the Dragon defender, the Draconic Visage, all GWD Items, all Ward shards, and the Imbued heart.
  • Double the droprate of wilderness emblems from wilderness bosses and wilderness slayer.
  • Stop rooftop agility obstacles from cancelling damage
  • Remove Lava dragons from the tasklist of Wilderness Slayer.
Also found within the survey are two quite notable hypotheticals that we're pitching to you in response to community calls for less restriction within Deadman, changes to keep the Season active towards the latter stages, and a more thematically-fitting qualification critera for the Finals. Complete the survey (https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/8M6QVYM) to have your say on the two proposals found below.

A Taste of Hope

Originele tekst

This week's update sees the release of A Taste of Hope, the next quest in the Myreque line. We've made a change to Chambers of Xeric: Challenge Mode based on your feedback. And you can win a gaming laptop!

AfbeeldingA Taste Of Hope
For many years, the Myreque have fought back against the reign of the Drakans. To many, they act as a glimmer of hope in an otherwise miserable existence. In recent times, the Myreque have been beset by disaster, with numerous members meeting a gruesome end at the hands of Vanstrom Klause, the brutal henchman of the Drakans. However, while the Myreque may be in their darkest hour, hope still remains. Thanks to a recent discovery in the laboratories deep beneath Meiyerditch, the Myreque may have finally found a way to take the fight to the vampyres. They will do just that in the latest installment in the Myreque questline, A Taste of Hope.
Afbeelding
A Taste of Hope is a new Experienced level quest available to players who have completed Darkness of Hallowvale. Players who manage to complete this quest will be rewarded with the following:
  • 1 Quest Point.
  • A Tome of Experience (this grants 2500 XP in any three skills of 35 or above).
  • A new unlimited teleport that takes players directly to the Theatre of Blood.
  • A new weapon for killing vampyres.
Afbeelding
Today's update has also seen a new area added to the world map. Isn't it satisfying to see less black squares?

You can get to the new area by walking from Port Phasmatsy, taking a boat from nearby the Ectofuntus, or walking through Meiyerditch (provided you've completed Darkness of Hallowvale).

The new areas contain locations to hunt Swamp lizards, cut Yew trees, and there are new Swamp crabs for you to fight. One of the most notable additions to the map is the town of Slepe which contains a host of new characters and lore to immerse yourselves in.

Finally, we'd like to extend a special thank you to Mod Surma from the audio team for the two music tracks he has provided for today's update.
AfbeeldingTheatre of Blood: Rewards
Shortly after today's update we'll be launching a new in-game poll. It's your chance to have your say on the final appearance of the Justiciar armour design.
Poll Question #1Which of the two shortlisted designs shall we use for the Justiciar armour design when the Theatre of Blood launches? The highest voted option will win and be added to the game.

OSRS Mobile: More Players Always On!

Originele tekst

The next group of Android invitees are now 'Always On'! At 2pm BST today we sent inbox messages and emails to another 12,000 (just about) players.

  • I was/wasn't invited to a previous beta. Does this affect my chances of being invited now?

Previous involvement (or lack of) in a previous beta does not affect your chances of being chosen. Each test specifically involves individuals who belong to whichever cohort we're targeting.

AfbeeldingAndroid Is 'Always On'!
On Tuesday we sent another batch of invitations to the Android beta. Today sees those invited players able to go 'Always On' from 2pm BST onwards. If you missed Tuesday's newspost, we stated that this time around we'll be inviting players using any Android device. Please note that if you're using a device which isn't one of the fully supported devices then you are encouraged to report any issues you may encounter. Fully supported devices are: Samsung Galaxy S5, S6/S6 Edge, S7/S7 Edge, S8/S8 Plus, S9/S9 Plus, One OnePlus 3/3T/5, Nexus 6P, Google Pixel/XL/2/2 XL.

Those initially invited received an inbox message on Tuesday. Today at 2pm BST they received another inbox message and an email which contain instructions to access Old School RuneScape on Mobile.

Please note that you may not receive the email: if you've opted out of receiving communications from us via your Email & Comms Preferences in your Account Settings, if your email provider filters communications from us (please see the Not Receiving Emails support article, or if you've accidentally typo'ed your email address.

This simple answer to you being met by the App not available messaging is that the Google Play account you're logged into does not have access to the Android beta.

Fixes to Slepe and A Taste of Hope

Originele tekst

With the release of the Theatre of Blood next week, and a Taste of Hope last week, this week's release is a quiet one.

AfbeeldingGame Update
This week's release doesn't have much in the way of player-facing content for you. We've been busy adding some final polishing touches to the Theatre of Blood, ahead of its release on Thursday 7th June (next week!). As such here are a number of small fixes to Slepe and A Taste of Hope, a few changes for #OSRSMobile, and we've also added in some tools to help with a secret stream we have planned for Saturday June 16th:

OSRS Mobile: A small safe-zone has been added around the minimap to prevent accidental misclicks.

OSRS Mobile: Tapping on your stats in the Stats menu now brings up the XP tooltip instead of the skill guide. The skill guide is now accessed from a long click.

OSRS Mobile: You may now cap your FPS to 15, 20, or 30. This is found via the Game controls menu in Settings, and then navigating to Mobile options.

The tower bell found in Slepe now has examine text.

A typo in the Jester's dialogue beneath Slepe has been corrected.

Falo the Bard will now accept the Ivandis flail as well as the Rod of ivandis following his singing ballad.

Some misleading examine text with some doors found in Slepe has been fixed.

The graveyard in Slepe is now accessible.

The bartender in Slepe can no longer be spoken to from a distance. His voice had became rather hoarse from shouting to players outside his pub all day and night.

Missing water source icons for the sinks in Slepe have been added.

You can no longer stand on the same tile as Damien Leucurte in Slepe.

The Morytania task Obtain some bark from a hollow tree now works when chopping the hollow trees in Slepe.

Emerald sickles can now be enchanted using the Enchant emerald or jade tablet.

The price of Seaweed spores sold by Mairin's Market has been reduced from 50 Mermaid tears to 20.

Jewelled crabs in Challenge Mode now give the correct amount of points

We've added in a secret new JMod tool which we'll be using in our Super Secret Stream which begins at 8pm BST/3pm EST on Saturday June 16th.

The PvP World assignment will be returning to Period A for the next two weeks. Consult the PvP World Rota page for more information.

The Chambers of Xeric: Challenge Mode Leaderboards has been updated to reflect last week's times.
AfbeeldingTheatre of Blood: Playtest
Recently we had a large playervisit in which we saw the likes of Boaty, Woox, DedWilson, MMORPGRS, Cloud Badass, Lake, Mr Mammal, Dalek Cookie, Lucid Dream, Reed, and Zulu get to grips with the Theatre of Blood. The feedback we received was that the mechanics were enjoyable, interesting, unique, but ultimately they were not punishing enough. Well, that's what playtests are for! We went away and re-balanced content to ensure it was appropriately challenging. To make sure the changes we were making were the right ones we called upon the five players we invited to playtest the Chambers of Xeric: Challenge Mode.

We'd like to extend a special thanks to: 124426, Auntie Mabel, Classix, DedWilson, and Latias for their hard work in playtesting the Theatre of Blood this week. Their feedback has been invaluable, and we're confident that with the two playtests under our belt, the level of challenge offered in the Theatre is precisely where it should be.
Afbeelding
Ahead of next week's Theatre of Blood release we'd like to remind you that anybody who wants quick access should complete A Taste of Hope to unlock the teleport which is rewarded upon its completion.

The Theatre of BloodAfbeeldingThe Theatre of Blood was created with one thing in mind, Lady Verzik's entertainment. She commanded her followers to create this challenge, in the hopes of watching many a willing citizen of Meiyerditch or travelling warrior perish Do you have what it takes to defeat the Theatre of Blood? Are you the hero the Myreque need?AfbeeldingIt's showtime.Afbeelding
Towards the east of Gielinor, located within the Sanguinesti region, is Ver Sinhaza. Once the home of Queen Efaritay, it is now ruled over by Verzik Vitur, head of the Vitur family and one of the few true-born vampyres on Gielinor. For millennia, Lady Verzik has commanded an army of vampyres whom she has not only used to do her biddings, but also provide her with on-demand entertainment. It didn't take long before this became tiresome, and so she instructed her followers to create a gauntlet filled with some of the strongest warriors, creations and creatures. This is what we call today the Theatre of Blood.
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
The citizens of Meiyerditch often go to the Theatre to fight against the various experiments and abominations contained within, providing entertainment for the vampyres. To encourage them to do this, the vampyres promise them freedom if they survive. It's down to you to complete all its challenges and emerge as the victor.
AfbeeldingThe Basics
The Theatre of Blood is a linear progression raid challenge located in the Sanguinesti region, east of Meiyerditch, that emphasises on the need for teamwork. The Theatre can be accessed via a boat north of Port Phasmatys for a fee of 10,000 coins. Alternatively, you can walk there, but it's quite the journey and not something we'd recommend. If you've completed A Taste of Hope, you can use Drakan's medallion to teleport directly to the Theatre.
Afbeelding
There is no skilling involved within the Theatre, and all rooms are generated in the same order each time you enter. Throughout the raid, you'll have a few opportunities to receive a small amount of loot and supplies, but your success will heavily depend upon the equipment and supplies you take with you, alongside how well you can work together as a group. The maximum group size allowed to enter the Theatre is 5, and has been balanced for group sizes of 3-5 players. There are multiple challenge rooms that contain difficult to defeat monsters, bosses and creations, that eventually lead up to a final epic boss challenge like nothing ever seen in Old School RuneScape.
Afbeelding
To help you muster your forces, you can use the recruitment board to form your own party, advertise it to others and manage its members.
Afbeelding
Afbeelding
The board allows you to browse the list of available parties, see who's in them and what their stats are, and Apply to join. The leader of the party can choose to Accept or Reject you; rejection blocks you from re-applying unless the party leader clicks their 'Unblock' button or blocks too many more players.
Afbeelding
The Theatre of Blood has a unique wiping system. Dying in a challenge room means you as an individual must sit out the rest of that room whilst your team carries on - this state is known as Purgatory. Once the room has been completed, you will leave Purgatory and will be able to re-join your group for the rest of the raid. If a 'full wipe' occurs, for example the whole team dies, the raid is failed completely and you must restart from the beginning. A failed raid is not considered safe and any lost items will go into the gravestone system, like that of Torfinn's, with a gold fee of 100k required to retrieve them.Whilst a single death during a challenge room doesn't end the raid, any death within the Theatre of Blood will cause a Hardcore Ironman to lose their status, reverting them to a regular Ironman, even if the player is redeemed from Purgatory at the end of the wave. The number of deaths incurred will reduce the quality and quantity of your loot, including your chances of obtaining a unique reward, an Elite clue scroll and the pet. These rewards will only be awarded after killing Lady Verzik, the final boss of the raid. In order to maximise your potential loot, you'd be wise to ensure all party members are participatingYou'll find that once you're within the Theatre, normal teleports will not work. In order to escape the clutches of Lady Verzik and her many creations, you'll need to purchase a rather unique teleportation device from the Mysterious Stranger who can be found lurking outside of the Theatre's entrance.Logging out whilst in an encounter will be treated as a death, including the loss of HCIM status, so be sure to only start an encounter you intend to finish. Upon logging back in, the game will attempt to put you back with your party. If it successfully realigns you with your party, you will be placed into Purgatory as though you'd died in the fight, and you'll stay there until your other party-members finish that encounter. If the game cannot find your party to realign you on login, such as because the party disbanded or moved on in your absence, you will undergo a full death with item loss as though the party had failed; this is so that players cannot log out to avoid the fate of their party.Logging out whilst outside of an encounter, such as in the Theatre's corridors outside the combat areas, will be considered safe. Upon logging back in, the game will attempt to put you back with your party to let you carry on the raid; if it is unable to find your party, you will be returned safely to the lobby outside the Theatre.
AfbeeldingSpectating
The Theatre entrance offers an option for spectating other parties, for those of you not already in a party. Players may name a player who they'd like to observe (including players who are spectators themselves) or may select Recent Party which will show them a party that formed recently.
Afbeelding
These options are also available from Abigaila, a Morytanian refugee who hangs out at the Grand Exchange and lives in Lumbridge (renting the upstairs of the general store). She also serves to explain Morytania and the Theatre to players who are unfamiliar with the lore.In order to spectate, a player must be free from poison or disease, have an empty inventory and nothing equipped.Spectators are placed in a sort of viewing gallery built into the scenery, and will be teleported from room to room as the party advances through the waves. Those of you not wishing to see the chat of spectators whilst battling through the Theatre may find it beneficial to change your Public Chat settings to filter it out.
AfbeeldingThe Rewards
With something as challenging and exciting as the Theatre of Blood, you can be sure that you'll be rewarded well.Click here to see the full list of unique rewards on offer!
Vials of Blood & New Potions
The vampyres have long believed that there is great power in blood. A belief that has only increased with their recent experiments with Haemalchemy. These vials contain modified blood that enhances the power of potions and can be used to charge new weapons found from within the Theatre of Blood.Bastion potion: This single potion boosts both Ranged and Defence levels by the same amounts that using a Ranging potion and Super defence potion would. Mixing this potion requires 80 Herblore and the following ingredients: Vial of blood, Cadantine & Wine of Zamorak. Completing the full potion grants 155 Herblore experience.Battlemage potion: This single potion boosts both Magic and Defence levels by the same amounts that using a Magic potion and Super defence potion would. Mixing this potion requires 80 Herblore and the following ingredients: Vial of blood, Cadantine & Potato cactus. Completing the full potion grants 155 Herblore experience.
Avernic Defender
During the Second Age, Avernic weaponry was common amongst the forces of the Empty Lord. These weapons, crafted by Avernic smiths in the liquid fires of Infernus, were some of the most powerful around. Today, Avernic weapons are incredibly rare, the secrets behind their creation having long since been lost. Lady Verzik's Avernic Defender is one of the few to still remain and is a relic from her time in the service of the Empty Lord. The Avernic defender is an upgraded version of the Dragon defender, requiring 70 Attack and 70 Defence to equip. Due to its age, the full defender has been destroyed, leaving behind only the hilt. To create the Avernic defender, you must combine the Avernic hilt with a Dragon defender. The Avernic hilt is tradeable, but once combined with a Dragon defender the Avernic defender is untradeable. You can dismantle the Avernic defender to retrieve the Dragon defender that was used, but the Avernic hilt is destroyed in the process. If a player dies below level 20 Wilderness with the Avernic defender, it will revert to a broken Avernic defender, which can be repaired for 1,000,000 coins by using the item on Perdu. The player that gets the kill would be awarded 1,000,000 from the defender, in addition to the normal loot their opponent would drop. Deaths above level 20 Wilderness will be treated the same as any other untradeable item, meaning the person wearing it will not get a broken Avernic defender back - it will be lost.

Sanguinesti Staff
One of the more recent additions to Lady Verzik's collection, the Sanguinesti staff is a powerful weapon that was crafted by Lord Lowerniel Drakan himself. The staff was given to Lady Verzik by Lord Lowerniel Drakan as a reward for assisting him in their fights against the Seven Priestly Warriors. The Sanguinesti staff is a new tradeable Magic weapon requiring 75 Magic to wield. It is identical in terms of stats to that of the Trident of the swamp, but can hit 1 damage higher. It has the added effect of a 1/6 chance to heal you for 50% of the damage dealt when attacking an NPC. It is charged with Blood runes and uses 3 runes per cast. The staff does not degrade. To charge the staff, you will need to fill a Vyre well found within the lobby area of the Theatre with Vials of blood and Blood runes. Once done, the staff can then be dipped into the well to consume the number of charges you require, so long as there is a suitable amount of Vials of blood and Blood runes available in the well.

Ghrazi Rapier
Of all Vampyriums tribes, none were more vicious than the Ghrazi. These vampyres took pride in their combat abilities and would regularly bait their prey into battle so that they could test their prowess. The rapier in Lady Verzik's vault was once wielded by a fearsome Ghrazi warlord. It was given to her by her father who came to possess it after the warlord challenged him to a battle, one that he did not survive to tell the tale. The Ghrazi rapier is a new tradeable stab weapon that requires 75 Attack to wield. It is not charged and does not degrade. The attack speed of the rapier is the same as the Abyssal tentacle.

Justiciar Armour
The Justiciars were elite warriors in Saradomin's army during the God Wars. Unlike the rest of his forces, the Justiciars operated alone, often working as assassins and saboteurs. Selected from a variety of races, they were all chosen by Saradomin himself who granted them great power. When the vampyres invaded Hallowvale, some of the last remaining Justiciars fell in battle. The Justiciar armour found in Lady Verzik's vault was taken from one of these fallen warriors. The Justiciar armour is a brand-new set of tradeable tank orientated gear requiring 75 defence to equip. Each individual piece of armour offers defensive stats slightly higher than that of Torag the Corrupted's equipment, with the addition of some Prayer bonus. When the full set of Justiciar armour is equipped, all incoming damage taken is reduced by x/3000, where 'x' is your equipment's defence bonus. This is based on the style of attack being used against you. For example, if an enemy was using a Crush style attack and you had a defensive bonus total of 450 against Crush then 450/3000 = 15% damage reduction. This effect does not apply in PvP combat. When wearing the full Justiciar armour alongside items with similar effects, such as the Elysian spirit shield which has a 70% chance of reducing the damage the player receives by 25%, the damage reduction effect will apply after the Elysian spirit shield's effect. For example, if a player wearing was to be hit for a 40 damage Crush attack whilst wearing the full Justiciar armour with +450 Crush defence and an Elysian spirit shield, and the Elysian spirit shield's effect was activated, the damage would initially be reduced to 30 (25% of 40 is 30). The Justiciar armour would then provide a further 15% damage reduction (as the attack is a Crush attack, and in this example the total Crush defence is +450, then 450/3000 = 15% damage reduction), meaning the original 40 hit would be reduced to 25.The Justiciar armour does not degrade and it does not require charging.
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
Scythe of Vitur
Of all of Lady Verzik's possessions, one of the most valuable is the Scythe of Vitur. This legendary weapon was once wielded by the founder of House Vitur, a vampyre now worshipped as a god.The Scythe of vitur is a hard hitting, tradeable 2-handed weapon. It has no special attack but can hit up to three enemies once in a 1x3 arc in front of the player. Similar to the special attacks of the Dragon and Crystal halberd, each swing can also hit large creatures up to three times in the same attack. The scythe can only hit a maximum of three NPCs and can only hit a maximum of three times. The first hit deals 100% damage, the 2nd deals 50% and the 3rd deals 25%. Each attack, regardless of which enemy is your primary target, is rolled independently based on your attack bonuses versus the NPCs defence bonuses. The scythe requires 75 Attack and 75 Strength to wield and has two variants, and uncharged and charged version. The uncharged version has relatively low stats, but once charged, gains additional bonuses. Charging the scythe costs 1/100th of a Vial of blood and 3 Blood runes, meaning 100 charges would cost a full Vial of blood and 300 Blood runes. To charge the scythe, you will need to fill a Vyre well found within the lobby area of the Theatre with Vials of blood and Blood runes. Once done, the scythe can then be dipped into the well to consume the number of charges you require, so long as there is a suitable amount of Vials of blood and Blood runes available in the well.

Sinhaza Shroud
In the courtyard outside the Theatre of Blood, a mysterious figure watches. No one knows why he is there, but he takes a great interest in any who would enter the Theatre. Anyone who manages to survive the Theatre may find that this figure has a strange gift for them, a shroud of unknown origin. The Sinhaza shroud is an entirely cosmetic cape that you receive after completing the Theatre of Blood 100 times. It is possible to change the appearance of the cape after completing the Theatre of Blood and additional 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 times respectively. When the Sinhaza shroud was initially pitched, it was worded in such a way that you would assume to get a basic cape for completing the Theatre once, and then upgrade it after completing the Theatre of Blood 100, 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 times respectively. After implementing a similar cape for the Chamber of Xeric: Challenge Mode, we opted to adopt the same method for the Sinhaza shroud. As such, the first cape will now be unlocked at 100 completions as we had originally intended. Apologies for the confusion!

The following improvements have been made following feedback from A Taste of Hope:- Players may now force a vyrewatch to show interest in them to get to the mines faster. This includes the vyrewatch guarding the bank at the Theatre.- Agility interactions across Meiyerditch are now left-click rather than right-click.- There is no longer a confirmation when depositing ore in the mine cart in the Daeyalt mine.- Players may now left-click the mine cart in the Daeyalt mine to deposit ore as well as just using it.- Made it easier to click the sickle button in the Myreque base.- When entering the Myreque hideout, the interactions are now left-clicks.- Made Garth's dialogue more obvious that his story is a quest start.
  • Trader Sven had a few too many Bloody bracers and was seeing double! We've removed the additional Trader Sven in the Meiyerditch area.
  • The Music Track Clan wars had been corrected to use the correct instruments on the track.
  • A bug that was found with the special attack of halberds has been addressed. Before, the special attack would only hit the NPC you're attacking and stacks of NPCs on the tile to the left and right of that NPC. Now, the special attack will include other NPCs on the tile that your target is, as well as NPCs to the left and the right. This change also applies to PvP.
  • The in-game world-hopper no longer allows you to try hopping to a F2P world while standing in a members-only area.
  • The World Map search feature now works more reliably in the map's fullscreen mode.
  • Slayer Masters will no longer typically assign vampyres to players with combat levels below 45; previously the level being checked was 35. However, players are already able to ask Slayer Masters to stop checking their combat level at all, so the task is still accessible to players of all levels.
  • The two imbued Salve amulet versions are now protected over more items on death, reflecting the time and trouble required to re-imbue them.
  • If you choose to hop worlds inside the Chambers of Xeric, you will now be asked if you really want to hop worlds, even if you had previously chosen to disable such warnings. This also applies to the Theatre of Blood.
  • The seed stall now has a separate stock used for Iron players.
  • The Chambers of Xeric: Challenge Mode Leaderboard has been updated to reflect last week's times.

Theatre of Blood: Feedback Tweaks

Theatre of Blood: Feedback Tweaks

Originele tekst

Theatre of Blood: Feedback TweaksSince the launch of the Theatre of Blood, we've been keeping a close eye on all of your feedback coming in. Today, we'd like to propose a few changes based on that feedback that we intend to release with next week's game update on the 21st of June. Your feedback on these changes is, as always, very much appreciated.
Afbeelding
Before we discuss any potential changes, we'd like to take a moment to say thank you all for your feedback and comments. We've had a huge amount of fun watching you work your way through the Theatre alongside hordes of spectators. More importantly, it seems many of you have been thoroughly enjoying battling through to Lady Verzik! As for the changes, we'd like to propose the following:We'd like to improve the viewing experience for both spectators and those held in Purgatory. We intend to implement something similar to the 'lean' feature at the Duel Arena. This will allow you to click on certain areas to automatically move you camera do a different viewing angle.Currently, the mid-way chests are heavily RNG based. There is no clear correlation between your performance within the Theatre and the quality of supplies you receive. We'd like to propose a change the way these chests work by implementing a 'shop' system, where players have a certain number of points to spend on whichever potions or food they require the most.Finding a group of 5 players can be a little daunting at times, especially for those not already integrated into a Clan. We'd like to add a Theatre of Blood Clan Chat Channel to help you find the right members for your group. In addition to assisting with finding a group for the Theatre, we'd also like to explore making it more accessible. We initially intended for the Theatre of Blood to be aimed towards groups of 3-5 players, where 5 players would be optimal, but 3 very good players could at least complete the full raid. Looking back, we may have missed the mark a little for smaller team sizes. As such, we'd like to explore scaling down the health of the creatures inside the Theatre based on team size. We're proposing a reduction to 75% of their current health for a group of 3 players. The damage creatures deal and their mechanics would remain the same, but this should help to make the lower team sizes have a chance of success. We've noticed many of your comments regarding how great the individual rooms are, but we've also highlighted some areas of concern. Most notably is the Nylocas room, which ramps up in difficulty as the encounter progresses. We agree with the majority in that the early stage of the encounter is a little slow, and the room overall suffers because of that making it too long. We intend to remove a bunch of the early waves, so you're straight into the action. To ensure we're not just making the room categorically easier, we'll also lower the pillar health, increase the HP of the final Nylocas boss and make it more punishing when you attack with the wrong attack style by increasing the healing and damage reflect it does to 100% of your damage dealt, rather than 50%.Competition is rife within the Theatre, and many teams are constantly pushing for the fastest completion times. Currently, we're only displaying the actual time you spend completing each room. We also want to provide an overall completion time, so that players have an incentive to optimise their time spent between each room.Everyone loves more data, so we're looking to add a 'noticeboard' of sorts to the treasure room accessed after defeating Lady Verzik which will display some additional information about the raid. Ideally we'd like to be able show the number of deaths for each player, the time spent in each room, and an MVP for the entire raid. We've seen some complaints of how multiple Sotetseg's core prayer projectiles can hit a player simultaneously. Whilst we want the Theatre to be challenging, we don't want to introduce mechanics that you cannot avoid regardless of how skilled you are. We'll be looking to change the way these work slightly to prevent this from happening.Another frustration with Sotetseg is his special 'sharing' projectile (the red orb!) and how it has a fairly short travel duration if the player is near Sotetseg. We'd like to increase the minimum time it takes before it damages you so your team has a fair chance of avoiding the attack.A common complaint we've seen is the area you click to enter the next challenge room is rather large and can often be misclicked when you've left supplies on the floor. We'll be looking into ways of making it more difficult to go through the doors by accident without impacting the fantastic environment used throughout the Theatre. Some bosses inside the Theatre use game messages to help signpost what attacks are being used at the time. These can be difficult to distinguish between other messages. We'll highlight these in different colours to help emphasise their importance.Mod Ry will be looking at improving the Ghrazi rapier stab animation and Mod West will be investigating the Justiciar legguards model as they have some odd stretching between the legs.

Teleport Options & Tidying Up

Originele tekst

Teleport Options & Tidying UpThis week our focus has been on preparing the feedback changes from the Theatre of Blood, listed in our most recent newspost, ready for next week's game update. That being said, this week we're releasing some QoL features and your usual round of bug fixes.
Afbeelding
Player-owned house portals and teleport tablets for Varrock, Camelot and the Watchtower now have options for going to either of their possible destinations when right-clicking them. A new right-click option has been added that lets players toggle which option will appear when left-clicking the spellbook and portals. Unfortunately, it's not currently possible to make that toggle apply to inventory items too.
AfbeeldingCompletion of the respective achievement diaries is still required to access the destinations that require them.
Moving your character by clicking on the tiles on the edge, of Xarpus's arena, will now navigate the player in an expected manner. The Vampyre's snarky messages are no longer placed in the gravestone upon being wiped in the Theatre of Blood.Players that have completed the Western Provinces Elite Diary will now find that when you're resurrected in Zulrah's shrine, providing your auto retaliate is off, the fight is paused until you do any actions such as moving, attacking the NPCs or consuming your supplies. A healing hitsplat and a graphical effect and sound have been added to the revival too, making it slightly clearer when it occurs.
Afbeelding
All Spirit shields have been updated to be cleaner in game. Further to this, female characters now have their own unique model, reducing the distance from the shields and their bodies.Route-finding towards seaweed patches has been improved.Over-hitting a player's remaining health in PvP will no longer interfere with the correct player receiving the loot. The messages detailing what is required to enter volcanic mine have been updated to include the information that a player must claim the reward for building the camp. Theatre of Blood items have been added to the experts' price lists at the Grand Exchange. Some typos in the Mysterious Stranger's dialogue outside the Theatre of Blood have been fixed. The Port Khazard anvil building's door is now wedged open to avoid disruption of training. The spelling of the Avernic defender hilt description has been corrected. Items found in the supply chests within the Theatre of Blood will now appear to other players instantly if dropped, to assist parties in distributing those items. (Ironman restrictions still apply.)
AfbeeldingDeadman Summer Finals: Permadeath Playthrough
We'll be hosting a beta playthrough of the final stages of the Deadman Summer Finals on the 21st June, starting at 2pm BST. It's important to note that the purpose of the beta playthrough is to determine that the mechanics in-game work as expected, and it's not an opportunity to practise and refine your game plan. As such, we're opting to go ahead with the usual open first-come first-served policy to ensure that the world will be at capacity and allows us to gather the best possible feedback.
AfbeeldingWe've changed the appearance of the arena section of the Permadeath Stage to better reflect the seasonality of the Summer Finals.
The playthrough specifics:The beta playthrough will take place on Thursday 21st June at 2pm BST (9am EST).The playthrough is going to be held on World 400.The world will be accessible from 2pm BST (9am EST) and you will be given 15 minutes to login and prepare. The playthrough begins properly at 2:15pm BST (09:15am EST).The event is expected to last around 90 minutes but will run through to its completion. The supply chests will be included in the beta playthrough. We'll also be testing our new contingency measures. More information regarding how these will work will be made available soon. You will login and be given this inventory and this gear:

The Next Few Months

The Next Few Months

Originele tekst

Now that the Theatre of Blood has been delivered and conquered, and with notable improvements arriving next week, we'd like to take a bit of time to tell you about what to expect in the coming months. The Theatre of Blood was a huge collaborative undertaking which was rather resource-intensive. We now have a lot more resource to dedicate to the projects which you've been clamouring for, not only that, but Mod Lenny has passed his training period (congratulations @JagexLenny)!

We're going to be devoting the next few months to working through the backlog of updates that we've promised, the updates you've been asking for, and updates to content and communities that we feel deserve more of our attention. Recently we've been looking through this backlog and have been scoring each one in terms of both development cost and player impact, and this will all tie into the final schedule, which we hope to share with you in the coming weeks. Though we aren't too sure of the format in which we'll be sharing this information just yet!

In short, expect to see the updates we've spoken about before, and no big unexpected announcements (we'll be saving that for RuneFest!).

Naturally you'll be wondering just where Old School Mobile fits into this release schedule. We don't have any specific dates to share with you in this newspost, but we would like to increase visibility of its progress among the wider playerbase and beyond the current testers. Development for Old School Mobile is currently cross-team with the Old School team providing content developers, QA testers, and artists to aid the work of the Engine team and the Web development team. Whilst there isn't a set release date, we would expect to see it in the hands of most current players in Beta form before full release, and possibly until the full release. Over the next week you can expect us to share such things as: the changes we'd like to make based on your feedback, what changes we've already delivered, and what changes are currently awaiting release (touch scrolling for certain interfaces - like your bank!).

Our intention is still very much to launch both the iOS and Android apps together and we remain entirely confident of doing so. It's natural for players with iOS devices to feel somewhat left out, but the current clear focus on Android allows us to gather the feedback we need and conduct various essential tests before looking to restore parity across both the iOS and Android platforms. However, it is possible we may operate an iOS test before then, just to quench that thirst of yours! Remember, you can keep up to date with the development of Old School Mobile by reading the development blogs, all of which can be navigated to from our Mobile FAQ.

Theatre of Blood Changes & Deadman Summer Finals

This week's update sees the arrival of a number of substantial changes to the Threatre of Blood, all of which were detailed in last week's Feedback Tweaks newspost. The Deadman Summer Finals begin on Saturday 23rd, so this week's update also delivers a number of changes needed, some of which we'll be displaying in today's Deadman Summer Finals beta playthrough (which begins at 2pm BST).

AfbeeldingTheatre of Blood Changes
Last week's Feedback Tweaks newspost detailed a number of changes we'd like to make to the Theatre of Blood, all of which were derived from the feedback you gave us.

Spectating

Viewing points have been added to each room in the Theatre. These viewing points behave similarly to the Lean option in the Duel Arena. Players in Purgatory, or players who are simply spectating, can access a View option which includes a basic menu for cycling through the different viewing angles available.
AfbeeldingControl the viewing angle via this menu.AfbeeldingAfbeeldingFeaturing full-frontal angles of the Pestilent Bloat. Admire his morbid stature like never before.
Team Scaling

In response to your requests to allow smaller teams to tackle the Theatre, we've made some additional changes to the scaling to account for team size. Players in groups of three will find that the bosses have 75% of their original hitpoints. Players in groups of four will find that bosses have 87.5% of their original hitpoints.

Resource Chests

We don't really have an official name for them, but in this section we're talking about the chests between the challenge rooms which yield supplies for you. The change we've made means that rather than just give you supplies, we'll be rewarding you with points based on your performance, you can then use these points to purchase the supplies you want. A performance considered to be above average will be rewarded with 10-13 points, an average performance will reward 8-11 points, and a below average performance will be met by just 6-9 points.

In the shop you will be able to purchase the following items:
  • Saradomin brew (4) - 3 points
  • Super restore (4) - 3 points
  • Prayer potion (4) - 2 points
  • Sea turtle - 2 points
  • Manta ray - 2 points
  • Stamina potion (4) - 1 point
  • Mushroom potato - 1 point
  • Shark - 1 point

Nylocas Room

The first 21 waves of the Nylocas encounter have been removed, this follows feedback that the room felt needlessly long to complete. We've made a number of other changes in response to the removal of the waves. Firstly, the pillar health has been reduced. Players in groups of five will find that the pillar has been reduced from 140 hitpoints to 130 hitpoints. A solo player will find that the pillar has been reduced from 350 hitpoints to 330 hitpoints.

We've also made a change to the Nycolas Visilias. Attacking the Nycolas Visilias with the wrong style will see 100% of your hit reflected and 100% of it healed, rather than the previous 50%. Nycolas Visilias will now generally deal more damage, and it's hitpoints has been increased from 2000 to 2500.

Performance Details - Info Board

A new information board, which displays various statistics from your raid, has been added to Lady Verzik's treasure room. You can access this via a table found to the west when you enter the room. Spectators also have accesss to a similar table. It also tracks the time taken to complete the Theatre from start to finish, including corridor time.

Other Theatre of Blood Changes

The Justiciar legguards have had the lower section of cloth removed.

A new attack animation has been created for the Ghrazi rapier.

The falling hands during the Pestilent Bloat encounter, within the Theatre of Blood, now take slightly longer to fall, and their shadows increase in size as they approach the ground.

The click area of the challenge exit has been reduced in size.

Sotetseg's large ball of energy attack is now consistent in terms of timing, regardless of your distance from the boss. Previously it was extremely difficult to avoid the attack when at a close range.

Sotetseg's projectile attacks should no longer be able to stack one player for multiple hits during the same game cycle.

Some residents of Ver Sinhaza were wandering quite near to the item reclamation chest in the Theatre of Blood. They've been moved, so now they won't venture quite so close.

The Theatre of Blood now has a Chat channel to help players looking for teams. This is found within the Minigames section.

Lady Verzik's web damage has been stopped from hitting multiple times.

The Avernic defender(.) no longer has a full stop at the end of its name.

The Avernic defender has had its death-protection value increased.

The following messages within the Theatre of Blood have had their colour changed for increased visibility:
  • Sotetseg: 'A large ball of energy is shot your way'
  • Xarpus: 'Xarpus is staring in your direction and retaliates with a powerful attack!'
  • Verzik: 'The power resonating here can only protect one player!'
  • Verzik: 'Verzik Vitur fires a powerful projectile in your direction...'

AfbeeldingDeadman Summer Finals
The Deadman Summer Finals begin on Saturday 23rd June at 1pm BST. Ahead of its launch we'll be conducting a playtest today at 2pm BST (in just a few hours).

It's worth noting that the purpose of the beta playthrough is to determine that the mechanics in-game work as expected, and it's not an opportunity to practise and refine your game plan. As such, we're opting to go ahead with the usual open first-come first-served policy to ensure that the world will be at capacity and allows us to gather the best possible feedback. All of the information you need can be found below:
For more information we recommend that you read the Contingency Planning section of the Deadman Summer Finals article. We will be intentionally kicking players offline and pausing gameplay at various points of this playthrough, so read the article to make sure you aren't taken by surprise! You will login and be given this inventory and this gear:

2019 Content Survey

Originele tekst

It's been nearly two years since the last Old School Priority Poll, and as the playerbase has grown substantially since then, we'd like to see what content the Old School community is most interested in. This survey will help us determine where the priorities of the community are.

Previous polls were a lot simpler in format and tended to pitch specific updates. This survey is designed to be able to capture much more information, and offer you the chance to pitch us the content that you'd like to see.

The survey itself should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. We'll also be emailing the survey to those of you who have opted into receiving communications from us (via the Email and Communication Preferences tab in your Account Settings), so don't be alarmed if you receive an email from us, but do follow the security advice we offer for phishing websites and suspicious emails!

Take the 2019 Content Survey today!

Lastly, a huge thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. Your input is incredibly valuable to Old School, and you should feel confident that your voice helps to shape the direction of the game.

The Deadman Summer Finals are now live!

The top 2000 players from the Deadman Summer Season, along with the 160 players affected by the logout error from the Spring Finals, will be competing over the next 7 days for a total of $32,000 in prize money.

The Finals will run until Saturday 30th June, culminating in the Permadeath Stage beginning at 7:30pm BST. We'll be live from 7:30pm BST, Saturday 23rd June, on twitch.tv/oldschoolrs, make sure you tune in to see who will take home the $20,000 grand-prize!

For a full overview of game content and the rules, please vist the Deadman Summer Finals article, but here's a brief look at everything you need to know:

What has changed since the Spring Finals?
  • Swapping and Muling is a bannable offence. (Carried over from the Seasons).
  • Dragons now drop double the amount of bones. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Tuna, Lobster, Swordfish, Shark, Karambwan, Dark crab, and Anglerfish fishing spots will yield 3x the amount of fish resources. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • All random unnoted herb drops from NPCs are now doubled. (Carried over from the Seasons)
  • Every NPC in-game will have a chance at landing on an additional global Deadman drop table that contains highly sought-after supplies. The chance is determined by the combat level of the NPC. Bosses will have an increased chance of hitting this table and Superior Slayer Creatures will have a guaranteed chance. (Carried over from the Seasons - the drop potions and secondaries have been increased by approximately 25% from the Summer Season)
  • Pickpocketing in safe zones will yield no loot, as with in the Season.
  • Lava dragons have been removed from the tasklist of Wilderness Slayer.
What contingency measures do you have in place for the event of the Finals?

In response to the issue which caused approximately 160 players to experience a simultaneous logout, we announced that there'd be a clear player-facing contingency plan in place ahead of the beginning of the Finals. We have made a number of changes to the mechanics of the Permadeath stage which have been designed to ensure that we're able to take any action that we deem necessary.

Protecting your IP address is entirely your responsibility. Jagex is not responsible for your IP address becoming compromised, and your connection being targeted by others.

You should have a back-up connection available. An easy back-up connection can be in place by using the mobile data on your mobile device, and tethering your PC to that mobile connection. This back-up is a viable solution to not only attacks against your IP, but also against other connectivity issues.

If you suspect that your IP address has become compromised, it's recommended that you contact your ISP. The majority of ISPs will change your IP address at your request. Find a customer service or technical support contact at your ISP and ask for a new IP address. If, for some reason, they will not help you change your IP address, you can attempt to force an IP change by unplugging every PC, router, modem, or other network hardware and computer from the internet for a period of 24 hours. If all of this advice doesn't yield any results then we'd recommend playing for the entirety of the Finals using your back-up connection (and sourcing a secondary back-up connection).

In response to the issue which caused approximately 160 players to experience a simultaneous logout, we have made a number of changes to the mechanics of the Permadeath stage.
  • It is now possible for us to pause the Permadeath progression by stopping movement of the deadly fog and disabling PvP until we decide to resume play. This applies to the deadly fog phase of the Permadeath stage.
  • It is now possible for a player, who has not died, to log back in up to 60 seconds after logging out. There is a hard cap on the number of times a player can log back in again, so it cannot be abused by just logging out and back in again multiple times. This cap can be toggled off, but will only be done so at our discretion and cannot be done on an individual basis.
  • It is now possible for us to effectively pause the 1v1 stage by stopping the appearance of the deadly fog and disabling PvP until we decide to resume play. Any pausing of the 1v1 stage will pause combat in all 1v1 fights, and so will be used only at our discretion.
  • The banking phase of the 1v1 stage has now been increased to 10 minutes (from 5 minutes). This should be enough time to ensure you're playing with a stable connection and you have a back-up connection to hand.
The changes in the section above are to help us enact the steps detailed in this contingency plan, should the situation arise.
  • During the deadly fog phase of the Permadeath stage, should any players experience connectivity issues which are local to them (only affecting them), then we will take no action. The ability to log back in should alleviate any need for our intervention.
  • During the deadly fog phase of the Permadeath stage, should we encounter any disruption which affects a significant amount of users and which cannot be resolved by players simply logging back in then we will pause the Permadeath progression. This will only be done at our discretion, and only when we are confident that doing so won't be detrimental to the outcome of the Finals.
  • During the Permadeath stage, should any connectivity issues arise which persistently cause multiple players to log out repeatedly, then we will remove the log in/log out cap (detailed above in Our Changes). This will only be done at our discretion, and only when we are confident that doing so won't be detrimental to the outcome of the Finals. We will re-add the log in/log out cap when comfortable with doing so.
  • During the 1v1 stage, should a player experience connectivity issues and log out before a fight begins, then that player has only until the fight begins to log back in.
  • During the 1v1 stage, should credible evidence emerge to suggest that an account is maliciously targeting other players, then we will take action against them.
  • We will not be able to return a player to life should they die at any point during the Permadeath stage.
  • We will not, at any point or under any circumstance, restart the event of the Finals.
  • We will endeavour to announce the results of the Finals on the night of the event (June 30th), but should more investigation be required, then the results will be announced only after the Old School team has had time to meet and review all evidence available to us.

Recent Issues With Connectivity

Originele tekst

We're aware of ongoing issues with connectivity, and the SysAdmin team are doing everything within their power to ensure Old School remains available to play without any disruption.

DDoS attacks can take many different forms and evolve in complexity all the time, as we mitigate one attack the perpetrators search for new ways to attack our infrastructure. We remain entirely dedicated to mitigating these attacks, and we'd like to ask for your patience whilst we resolve the issue.

Anybody with information to offer on DDoS attacks is welcome to contact us at tipoff@jagex.com.

Lastly, we'd like to apologise for any disruption to gameplay that you may have experienced.

Revenant Cave Rewards: Revisited, Content Poll & Theatre of BloodWe announced back in February that we were open to replacing the Statuette drops from the Revenants. We've been through your suggestions and ideas for new Revenant Caves rewards and we're now ready to show off the most popular and suitable ones to you! In addition to this, we'd also like put forward some poll questions, tackling a number of the quality of life and content changes you've raised. We have no shortage of your suggestions to put forward to the polls, so expect more of these types of blogs in the coming weeks. As with all other poll focused Dev Blogs, we want to take some time to collate your feedback. The poll is due to go live in-game this Friday 29th June, meaning there's plenty of time to provide feedback!
AfbeeldingViggora's Chainmace
Viggora was the creator of the Slayer Tower, and the only human among the Empty Lord's trusted generals. During his time serving the Empty Lord, he wielded a great chainmace against his foes. After his death, his chainmace was claimed by a follower of Zamorak, who used it extensively during the God Wars. Although the God Wars are long over, many participants still cling to this world as revenants. Among these revenants, the wielder of Viggora's Chainmace can still be found.Viggorra's chainmace is a tradeable 1-handed flail that can deal additional damage to Wilderness NPCs. It has stats similar to that of a Dragon scimitar, but when charged with a minimum of 1000 Revenant ether, an additional 50% Melee accuracy and 50% Melee damage boost is activated vs any Wilderness NPC.1 Revenant ether is used per hit, even if a hit misses. Any Revenant ether stored within the chainmace is always dropped on death when inside the Wilderness.

Poll Question #1Should Revenant NPC's within the cave have a chance to drop a new tradeable 1-handed flail, Viggorra's Chainmace? Any Revenant ether stored within the chainmace is always dropped on death when inside the Wilderness.

Protecting Game Integrity: Upcoming Changes

Originele tekst

Over the last 8 months we've been discussing a number of content changes we'd like to make for the purpose of protecting game integrity. These changes will be implemented without a poll, but we were receptive to feedback on both occasions we published our suggestions (November '17: Protecting Game Integrity and March '18: Protecting Game Integrity: Revision). As a reminder, this work isn't intending to replace any of the work done by the anti-cheating team. We remain dedicated to ensuring that the anti-cheating team keeps growing, and the methods we use to detect bots keep advancing. These changes are simply to see if we can improve the playing experience of legitimate players. These changes will not all be going out in a single update. They'll be developed and released in the coming weeks, though any death mechanics change may take longer to implement.

Afbeelding
Pickpocketing NPCs

To deter players from auto-clicking pickpocketing NPCs we have opted to continue with the Coin pouch solution we proposed. There was notable feedback which was concerned with the negative impact it would have on lower levels (who generally need to carry more food) and Ultimate Ironmen (for whom inventory space is at a premium).

With that feedback in mind we decided to implement a change to the initial proposal. The Coin pouches will now be stackable, but only 28 can be carried at any one time. The Coin pouch will have a left-click option which allows you to open them all at any one time. This change ensures that inventory space isn't consumed by the Coin pouches, and that the XP rates from pickpocketing aren't negatively affected.

If a player happens to be using Rogue equipment whilst pickpocketing then the player would receive both the Coin pouch and Coins.

Change to Box traps

To aid legitimate players when competing against bots, initially we pitched the idea of having completion of Eagles' Peak required to be able to use Box traps. This was received very positively, with no notable concerning feedback.

We added a non-combat alternative for quest completion. Previously you had to kill the kebbit, now you're able to Threaten the kebbit, causing it to retreat.

It's possible for you to release the ferret after it has been captured in the quest (which doesn't require a Box trap), and to catch a new one you'd need to use a Box trap. We've changed our approach to this, meaning that to use Box traps you will not have to complete the quest, but you will need to have reached the stage of the quest in which the ferret is caught.

Anti-Dragon Protection

Initially we proposed having started the Dragon Slayer quest as a requirement for wielding the Anti-Dragon shield. This was received positively, though there were some concerns that it would impact F2P pure builds. Ultimately we've opted to proceed, since it is entirely possible to acquire 32 Quest Points in F2P without gaining Defence or Prayer XP. We've decided to expand the restriction beyond Anti-Dragon shields.

Players will now be required to have started Dragon Slayer in order to use any form of Anti-fire protection. This includes the Anti-Dragon shield, the charged and uncharged versions of the Dragonfire shield, Dragonfire ward, and the Ancient wyvern shield, and all forms of dragonfire potion including barbarian variants.

Zaff's Staves

To make it more difficult for bots to purchase all of Zaff's stock, we proposed adding at least partial completion as a requirement for purchasing battlestaves from Zaff. This is not to be confused with the Diary reward, and other Staffs in his store will still remain accessible without meeting this requirement.

Again, this was received positively but there were concerns from pures as What Lies Below yields a 2k Defence XP reward.

Partial completion of What Lies Below will unlock access to the battlestaves. This is after the battle in the library, but before you speak to Rat Burgiss to complete the quest. We will make it clear at this stage of the quest that you can now purchase battlestaves from Zaff and that going on will reward defence experience so players don't run into any accidental defence experience gain.

Wine of Zamorak

To help deter the botting of Wine of Zamorak, we proposed that the Monks of Zamorak on the ground floor would be aggressive when the Wine of Zamorak is taken, even when telegrabbed. So as not to disrupt a valuable F2P moneymaking method we also proposed the construction of a second floor.

A second floor, accessible by ladder, has been added. Accessing this floor requires 500 Total level and a set of Zamorak robes (Members are able to equip the Zamorak Vestment top and bottom). Telegrabbing the Wine of Zamorak on this second floor will not result in the Monk of Zamorak becoming aggressive (though picking it up by hand will).

Magic Guild Store

To make it more difficult for bots to purchase stock from the Runes and Staves store in the Magic Guild, we proposed adding the completion of The Hand In The Sand as a requirement.

We'll be proceeding with the proposal, with only slight changes planned. The dialogue of the store owner will change if you are yet to complete the quest, the store being unlocked is mentioned on the quest complete screen, and the store owners have been renamed from Magic Store owner and Robe Store owner to Wizard Akutha and Wizard Sinina respectively.

Magic Training Arena

Initially we proposed adding a Magic requirement of 68 to pick up Dragonstones in the Enchanting Chamber. This wasn't a popular suggestion as most bots had 68 Magic, and so would be unaffected. We then proposed making the room instanced with a maximum capacity of five. Whilst you'd encounter less bots, it still didn't do enough to tackle the underlying issue which is: the nature of the Enchantment Chamber meant that you were best off hopping worlds for maximum points, meaning that you'd be competing with bots across multiple worlds.

With this in mind we have opted to change the points rewarded for enchanting shapes. Thiese would now scale per enchant type, similar to Dragonstones. Sapphires will now yield one point, Emeralds two points, Rubys three points, Diamonds four points, Dragonstones five points, Onyx 6 points, and Zenytes 7 points. Additionally, the bonus points given for enchanting the correct shape has been increased from one point to two points.

Duel Arena

Initially we proposed a number of changes with the intention of stopping such things as scamming and odds staking.

We proposed a 1% gold tax on all stakes. It was widely felt that 1% was too high, so instead we'll be proceeding with the idea of a gold tax, but it will apply only to winnings, and will scale depending on the amount staked. Generally speaking, the lower the winnings, the lower the taxation applied.

We proposed adding an option to boost combat stats to 99 (it wouldn't affect the equipment you're able to wield, and you wouldn't gain XP). The feedback we received was that it didn't feel particularly Old School. We've opted not to proceed with this approach.

We proposed added a trade weighing limit to ensure there was some parity with stakes, with the intention of limiting odds stakers. Generally, this was well received, but it did lead to fears (that we feel are unfounded) of it heralding a return to the trade limit which was imposed in 2007 and removed in 2010. We are still going to proceed with this change, which means that stakes must be fairly balanced, but we'd like to assure you that this update will not bring said trade limit.

We're going to be making another notable change, one which wasn't previously pitched. Once the update occurs it will only be possible to stake either Coins or Platinum. This was felt to be a necessary change as a result of the stake balancing change (listed above).

We earlier proposed making a change to tackle scammers which involves preventing players from emptying weapons within a duel. We'll be proceeding with this change to prevent unexpected items such as darts and runes from entering duels when an opponent may not be expecting it. You'll no longer be able to empty or uncharge the following weapons: Trident of the Seas, Trident of the Seas (e), Trident of the Swamp, Trident of the Swamp (e), Toxic blowpipe, and the Sanguinesti staff.

The above changes are significant, we do appreciate that, but it means that you're better protected against scams, and we expect it to be effective to counter odds stakers who engage in Real World Trading. It's important for us to reiterate that this is not indicative of any other trade restrictions, and that you are still free to stake as much wealth as you like, but it has to be in Coins or Platinum, and your opponent has to stake a similar amount.
Afbeelding
In March's Protecting Game Integrity: Revision we announced our intention to make changes to the current death mechanics. On Old School RuneScape's release, the death mechanics in place were as such: when a player died, in a non-PvP environment, all items carried at the time of death dropped to the floor except for the three most valuable items. Players had 2 minutes (real-time, not logged-in time) to retrieve lost items from the location they died, except if the death occurred in an instanced area (in which case the items were lost). Targeted DDoSing of our game worlds meant that in 2015 we increased this 2 minute timer to 60 minutes. As evidenced by the recent connectivity issues, they still remain a consideration of ours.

Our proposal was presented via survey, and firstly we'd like to thank all 16,000 of you for taking the time to give us you thoughts. In the survey we asked for: players thoughts on the current death mechanics, the length of time to reclaim items, using item reclamation (paying to retrieve your items) as a goldsink, whether dying should involve risk of losing items or wealth, a change to the grave timer so that it counts down only when logged in, items lost in instances re-appearing outside of instances for a cost, items lost on death reappearing on any game world (regardless of the world you died on), and then our own proposal.

The proposal itself was as follows:
Afbeelding
Here's what we took from the results of the survey: unsurprisingly the playerbase quite like the extremely generous death mechanics currently in place. They do feel that there's too much time to reclaim items, however, and the majority of players are in favour of at least a modest gold sink to reclaim items. The grave timer only counting down when logged in was overwhelmingly popular, as was the idea of items lost in instances re-appearing outside of instances for a cost, and items reappearing on any world on death.

Our proposal proved to be well-supported, though it's clear we overlooked a few things. Just under a quarter of players would prefer to keep the current death mechanics, however every Ultimate Ironman who responded to the survey belonged to this group, which is understandable when you consider that our proposal did not cover how it would affect their gameplay. Just under a tenth of players would prefer something like Old School's release, but as DDoSing remains a concern of ours, this will not be implemented. The remainder prefer our proposal.

We altered our design following your feedback, and we're now well-placed to present the proposal we'd like to implement:
  • We'd like to proceed with a gravestone system.
  • There'd be 20 minutes to return to your grave, after which all items will be destroyed.
  • The grave would be accessible on any world.
  • The 20 minutes timer would decrease only when you are logged in. The timer would not decrease if you have your grave open, but the grave would only remain open when in the vicinity of your grave.
  • The grave would persist across reboots (such as the game update on Thursdays).
  • The interface would stay open when in combat.
  • It would appear outside of instances.
  • We'd add a grave system to Zulrah, with a fee of 20k to retrieve items lost.
  • The fee itself would be 1% of the value of items within the grave, capped at 50k. This fee will be payable from your bank, and there would be a function to discard items, if you couldn't afford the full fee.
  • The location of the grave would be indicated on the world map, if in a mapped area.
  • The countdown timer would be displayed on screen, and clicking this would open the world map, showing the location of the grave.
  • Untradeable items would go into the grave.
  • Items we perceive to be useful could break, as they do in PvP currently.
  • Food and potions will be re-obtained for free, and will drop the floor if the grave was lost.
  • Tradeable items under a certain value can be re-obtained for free, to aid newer players.
  • We'd look to waive fees in certain game modes, such as Deadman.
  • Exceptions would still persist where items remain permanently, such as Torfinn (Vorkath), the chest outside Theatre of Blood, and Priestess Zul-Gwenwynig (Zulrah). Higher static fees will remain.
  • The Items lost on death interface would be updated to reflect the new behaviour.
  • We'll be communicating the changes heavily, prior to them being implemented, to ensure that no players are taken by surprise.
  • For Ultimate Ironmen we'll be handling their death mechanics separately: items would drop the floor for an hour (as they currently do - this would countdown even when logged in) and would also reappear outside of instances. However, this grave would not be present across other game worlds (this, and the countdown timer continuing to countdown even when logged in is related to how we'd be dropping items on the floor outside of instances). Untradeables will no longer be treated separately, and they would be kept. The permanent grave exceptions (Torfinn, the Theatre of Blood chest, and Priestess Zul-Gwenwynig) will still be used as usual.

Game Integrity Changes: Part 1

Originele tekst

Game Integrity Changes: Part 1This week we're releasing the first round of game integrity changes. These are a series of unpolled updates that do not replace any measures we already have in place, but rather look at what we, as a development team, can do to specific pieces of content to improve the Old School experience for genuine players. You can expect lots more of these changes to come with the next few weekly game updates.

Duel ArenaWe proposed making a change to tackle scammers which involved preventing players from emptying weapons within a duel. We'll be proceeding with this change to prevent unexpected items such as darts and runes from entering duels when an opponent may not be expecting it. You'll no longer be able to empty or uncharge the following weapons: Trident of the Seas, Trident of the Seas (e), Trident of the Swamp, Trident of the Swamp (e), Toxic blowpipe and the Sanguinesti staff.Magic Training ArenaInitially we proposed adding a Magic requirement of 68 to pick up Dragonstones in the Enchanting Chamber. These would now scale per enchant type, similar to Dragonstones.- A Sapphire now yields one point- An Emerald now yields two points- A Ruby now yields three points- A Diamond now yields four points- A Dragonstone now yields five points- An Onyx now yields six points- A Zenyte now yield seven pointsAdditionally, the bonus points given for enchanting the correct shape has been increased from one point to two points.Wine of ZamorakTo help deter the botting of Wine of Zamorak, we proposed that the Monks of Zamorak on the ground floor would be aggressive when the Wine of Zamorak is taken, even when telegrabbed. So as not to disrupt a valuable F2P moneymaking method, we also proposed the construction of a second floor.A second floor, accessible by ladder, has been added. Accessing this floor requires 500 Total level and a set of Zamorak robes (Members are also able to equip the Zamorak Vestment top and bottom). Telegrabbing the Wine of Zamorak on this second floor will not result in the Monk of Zamorak becoming aggressive (though picking it up by hand will).

Zaff's StavesTo make it more difficult for bots to purchase all of Zaff's stock, we proposed adding at least partial completion of What Lies Below as a requirement for purchasing Battlestaffs from Zaff. This is not to be confused with the Diary reward, and other Staffs in his store will still remain accessible without meeting this requirement. This was received positively but there were concerns from pures, as What Lies Below yields a 2k Defence XP reward.Partial completion of What Lies Below will now unlock access to the Battlestaffs. This is after the battle in the library, but before you speak to Rat Burgiss to complete the quest. We have attempted to make it clear at this stage of the quest that you can now purchase battlestaves from Zaff and that going on will reward defence experience, so players don't run into any accidental defence experience gain. This change will not impact the Deadman Tournament, but WILL be live from the start of the Deadman Autumn Season

Change to Box TrapsTo aid legitimate players when competing against bots, initially we pitched the idea of having completion of Eagles' Peak required to be able to use Box traps. This was received very positively, with no notable concerning feedback. In order to use box traps, players will now need to have progressed though the Eagle's Peak quest until the point where they have been shown how to catch the ferret. We felt this was the best option as it's possible for you to release the ferret after it has been captured in the quest (which doesn't require a Box trap), and to catch a new one you'd need to use a Box trap. We've also added a non-combat alternative for completion of Eagles' Peak. Previously you had to kill the kebbit, now you're able to Threaten the kebbit, causing it to retreat. This change will not impact the Deadman Tournament, but WILL be live from the start of the Deadman Autumn Season

Players may now store 100 of each log type used in balloon travel into a storage crate conveniently placed beside the balloons. There is a toggle between using logs from the storage crate or the inventory which can be accessed by right-clicking any of the storage crates.

If a player attempts to use a special attack against another player who is already stunned, then the player will no longer perform a normal attack instead. The farmer's straw hat no longer remains in place when teleporting via the Ardougne cloak or Desert amulet. The position of the Fremennik boots in the inventory have been changed so they are more consistent between tiers.Beards will no longer render over the Armadyl helmet on male chatheads. The male construction cape (t) now has the correct colour on the shoulderpads.A graphical issue causing Third-age range legs to stretch when the Ale of the gods is equipped has been resolved. We've corrected some spelling errors in the tooltips for various music tracks.
