Old School Connectivity Issues

Originele tekst

We're aware of the ongoing connectivity issues affecting Old School RuneScape, which in some cases are preventing players from accessing the mobile app, loading the official client or contributing to a laggy playing experience. These problems have been caused by sustained malicious attacks on our servers and we are working to swiftly resolve the issues as a priority.

We'd like to apologise for the lack of communication over the weekend period. Going forward we'll ensure we're talking to you often and sharing updates on the issues as and when we're able to. We'll communicate any updates by editing this article and through edits to the OSRS Connection Issues support article.

We'd also like to thank you for your patience. Rest assured we are doing everything we can to resolve these issues as quickly as possible.

Angry children have gathered in Varrock and it seems like they're protesting against something. But who's that jolly looking fellow standing beside them? Why, that's Santa! What on Gielinor is going on here? Speak to Santa by the Varrock fountain to learn what epic quest awaits you this year. Cement your place on his nice list to earn an all-new Christmas reward - plus, you'll also receive all of the event items from Christmasses past!

This is Mod Oasis' first project since joining the Old School team, and he has a few words:"Christmas is always a special time, doubly so this year as I've been working on my first project for Old School. It's been a great experience working on a new piece of content for the game I've been playing for so many years, especially since it's one of Old School's iconic holiday events. "As fun as it has been working on and developing the event, I'm even more excited to see you all playing through it. I can't wait to hear your feedback! Hopefully you'll enjoy the touches of humour I have thrown in, as well as the return of some festive favourites - and the rewards, of course! I've learned a lot from creating this event and I'm excited to get started on my next project."Have a very Happy Christmas and a fantastic New Year!"~ Mod Oasis

The Nightmare Poll Results

The Nightmare Poll Results

Originele tekst

Christmas greetings! Our most recent poll featured a new group boss, The Nightmare, and a host of new equipment as rewards. The poll ended on Wednesday December 11th, and we're pleased to say that all of the rewards passed.

There has been a lot of discussion about one item in particular, the Siren's tome, which would be the new best-in-slot magic offhand item. However, we've decided not to add the Siren's tome to the game.

The Siren's tome, and how we should introduce it, was the subject of a lot of debate both internally and externally during the design process, and this debate continued through to the polling stages. The tome faced one main source of contention - its introduction to the game would devalue the existing best-in-slot item, the Arcane spirit shield, and the challenging grind offered by the Corporeal Beast. Rumblings among some areas of the community suggested that we were trying to trivialise the magic off-hand grind for Iron accounts. This really isn't the case - we offered the Siren's tome because we had identified an item slot which hadn't seen any upgrades for a long time.

On reflection, we have decided to maintain the status quo. We've seen a host of innovative ideas from players about how the item could be redesigned, and we're very grateful for the constructive support. However, as The Nightmare is arriving with six unique rewards, we don't feel it is right to proceed with a seventh one - especially one that has so much uncertainty around it. We may well revisit the idea of an off-hand magic item from future content, though, and the community's suggestions could be very helpful for that. Regardless, we should have anticipated the impact of this item before polling it, and we'll do better to review how new equipment fits holistically within Old School RuneScape.

We want to reiterate that this decision was not taken lightly. There's no other way around it - the tome passed the poll, but we feel, that for the reasons listed, we're doing what is right for the game.

We also want to be clear that those of us lucky enough to be working on Old School RuneScape are a united team. We succeed as a team, and we tackle any challenges as a team. In no circumstance is it ever acceptable to target individual J-Mods with harassment. We're very fortunate to be working so closely with such a passionate community, but behaviour of this kind will ultimately lead to reduced engagement and fewer open discussions with players.

Going forward we'll be releasing The Nightmare and the other rewards early in 2020. We're going to learn more about how you feel about the introduction of new items, and how they should be introduced. We'll survey players and use focus groups to gather the information we need to guide a long-term approach to introducing and polling new equipment that you're comfortable with, and one that allows Old School to grow.

Twisted League Rewards

Twisted League Rewards

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingTwisted League Rewards
The Twisted League is now well under way! We've noticed some confusion around the points and reward system, so we'd like to take a moment to explain things more clearly! We'll also touch on League Trophies and how they should work in the future.
Afbeelding
When and Where Can I Spend My Points?League points can be spent on rewards in the Reward Shop, which will be added to the main game soon (in an inactive state). The Twisted League is due to end on January 16th.
Afbeelding
League to LeaguePoints earned from the Twisted League will be used to purchase current and future rewards, so any leftover points aren't wasted! Similarly, points earned in any future Leagues may be used to purchase the current rewards from the Twisted League - as well as any other past leagues.
Afbeelding
"Spending" Points on RelicsPoints 'spent' on relics do not subtract from the points you can spend on rewards at the end of the League. Consider these more as milestone rewards rather than items you purchase.
Afbeelding
Buying Multiple RewardsEach reward in the shop can be bought multiple times, so if you want to buy some for yourself and some to trade, you can!

AfbeeldingLeague Trophies
Afbeelding
ContextTrophies are untradeable rewards that players will receive based on rank (determined by points earned) at the end of the Twisted League. We've seen the discussion about how trophies will work season-to-season, and this in turn has sparked discussion within the team. The first issue we face is whether or not trophies should become discontinued when a League ends. In other words, should each trophy be unique to the League it comes from and be unobtainable thereafter? There is also the issue of what would happen should Leagues be discontinued in the future (more on this later). Our opinions are split, so we'd like your help. This will not affect other rewards, which will still be tradeable and accessible throughout every League, and also available from elsewhere in the main game if Old School Leagues were to end.The ChoiceIn the Twisted Leagues reveal blog we stated that League rewards will not be discontinued. However in the rewards section of the Twisted League release post, we specified that the trophies "can only be claimed by players who attained the specific rank in the League". These statements appear to contradict one another, and as a result some players expecting that the same trophies will be obtainable in every League and others thinking that rewards will be exclusive to an individual League, and therefore no longer obtainable once it is over. The Old School team isn't sure of the best approach, so below we make the case for each side - we leave the decision to you!Case 1: Keep Them Unique
 • An item showing where you placed in the League should be prestigious. Making the rewards obtainable in future leagues (or elsewhere if OSRS should Leagues stop altogether) devalues the value of a player's achievement. This is especially true given that not all Leagues will be the same (e.g. they may be area-locked, PvP focused etc).
 • Having the exact same trophy available from each League decreases their worth, as it says nothing about when, where or how you attained them. In addition, competing in future Leagues would yield one less unique reward. With higher ranks then becoming easier to obtain, players may feel they have less reason to participate.
 • While discontinued items failed polls previously, these were offered in the form of Holiday Event items. The community may not feel the same way about rewards which are competed for and require much more effort to obtain.
Case 2: Keep Them Available
 • Discontinued items from holiday events failed polls in 2013, 2016 and 2018. This suggests that the community does not support the introduction of items which eventually become unobtainable.
 • We also recognise that as the Twisted League is already underway, players who start late or wait until the next League (perhaps under the assumption that the trophies will be available later) would lose out should they be discontinued.
Potential SolutionsThere is also the issue of what to do should Leagues finish altogether. To avoid being discontinued entirely, they would need to be introduced through main-game content. Consider this when thinking about the potential solutions. The answer to all of these problems will take one of the forms below, so we'd like to run these through an opinion poll. Let us know what you think, and if you have a proposal of your own then please do let us know.
 • Keep trophies the same throughout every League. Make these available elsewhere in the future if Leagues were to stop.
 • Keep trophies the same throughout every League. Make these unavailable in the future if Leagues were to stop.
 • Have unique trophies for every League (differentiated by the logo style on the front) that cannot be obtained if Leagues were to stop.
 • Have unique trophies for every League (differentiated by the logo style on the front) with each one obtainable elsewhere if Leagues were to stop.
We look forward to hearing what you think! Let us know by joining the discussion on these Twitter, Reddit and Official Forum threads.

Merry Christmas!

Bericht door Bot »

Merry Christmas!

Originele tekst

Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas, everyone!

I'm taking a well-earned break from my ongoing protest in Varrock square to bring you some very special gifts from the Old School RuneScape Team.

I see that Mod Archie and the video team have created a heartwarming Christmas video with a very special message about friendship... and... the flammability of pool tables? Hm. Well, the important thing is that they got the Christmas spirit, ho ho.
Don't worry, boys and girls! I'm sure no dragons were harmed in the making of that video. And even if they were, they'll surely respawn in time to light the Christmas pudding. Now, can you guess who's top of my nice list this year? No, ho ho, it's not that charming fellow from the swamp! It's Mod Oasis, who designed this year's Christmas event! If you can find time between opening your piles of pressies, do pop in and see me by the fountain in Varrock square to see what on Gielinor has gone wrong this year. Dear me, I really ought to start managing my factories more effectively...

Oooh! Silly me, I've given you all these gifts and forgotten to read the label! Let's see here... ah yes, there's a special message for all of you from the J-Mods:

It's been an amazing year for everyone on the Old School RuneScape team. We've introduced a whole new game mode in the form of Leagues, solved some truly fiendish light puzzles in Song of the Elves, fought lizardmen in the Kebos Lowlands, and won some extremely prestigious awards - but we couldn't have done any of it without your support. So from all of us here at Jagex: Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

The Old School RuneScape Team

Ho ho ho! Isn't that delightful? Well, boys and girls, I've got to dash, dance and prance my way back to the North Pole - those presents won't deliver themselves, you know! But whatever you get up to this holiday season, do have yourself a merry old time - and we'll see you in January for another year of Old School fun!

Yours festively,

Mod Santa

The Game Worlds are being rebooted to solve various issues players have been experiencing, with content such as Vorkath, Tears of Guthix, and Grotesque Guardians. We'd like to apologise for the inconvenience of this, and the short notice. The issue seems to be related to how long the game worlds have been open for without a reboot, with an entity limit being hit. Normally this wouldn't be a problem because we do a game update weekly. Following on from this we will be investigating that issue itself to prevent it happening in the future. As of 16:52 GMT, this reboot is now complete.

If you still experiencing bugs, please report them via the in-game report button located at the bottom of your chat box. In other news... Happy New Year everyone! The Old School RuneScape Team

Eating in the Bank

This week sees the additional functions while the bank interface is open alongside other changes from the last game improvements poll.
AfbeeldingAdditional Actions in the Bank & Game Improvements
Happy New Year, Old School players! Our first update of 2020 rings in the changes from November's Game Improvements Poll.Eating, Drinking and Equipping with the Bank Open You can now eat food, drink potions (or any other liquids you fancy) and equip items from your Inventory while the Bank or Deposit Box interfaces are open. You can toggle this option on and off via the Bank Settings Panel, which will also change the option for Deposit Boxes. AfbeeldingAfbeeldingRight-click options on items such as these can now be toggled off via the bank settings panel. The toggle also applies to these options in the bank deposit box screen. AfbeeldingAfbeelding An additional screen for unequipping items without closing the bank has also been added. The Maiden of Sugadinti

The chance of being able to stun Nylocas Matomenos will now increase with your Magical Accuracy bonus. For players with a +140 bonus from equipment, Void bonuses and Prayers, the success chance will be 100%. Below are some combinations that will provide a 100% stun rate:
 • Your Equipment Stats tab displays Magic Accuracy as 140 or above
 • Your Equipment Stats tab displays Magic Accuracy as 112 or above, AND you have the Augury Prayer active
 • You have full Elite Void Knight equipped with the Mage Helm, and have a Magic Accuracy bonus of 86
 • You have full Elite Void Knight equipped with the Mage Helm, and have a Magic Accuracy bonus of 55, and have the Augury Prayer active
The numbers displayed in these examples are not necessarily the minimum requirements to guarantee a stun on the Nylocas - they only give examples of setups that would guarantee it.Visible stat boosts (or reductions) will also affect the chance of freezing the Nylocas.Additionally, all raid team members successfully avoiding the blood splat attack now halves the chance of a blood spawn appearing. The maximum number of blood spawns is now capped at 8. Crystal Tools
Afbeelding
Crystal tools can now be used while they have no charges, and act like their Dragon counterparts. Additionally, the Crystal Axe and Pickaxe no longer consume charges when their effects provide no extra benefits. Click here for the list of affected usesCrystal Pickaxe:
 • Entering the Abyss via the appropriate blockage
 • Combat against the Stone Guardians in the Chambers of Xeric
 • Mining through a rockfall obstacle in the Chambers of Xeric
 • Mining through the obstacles in the Legend's Quest
 • Mining salt or basalt underneath Weiss
 • Mining the rubble in Burgh de Rott
 • Mining dense essence in Arceuus
 • Clearing a rockfall that's fallen from the ceiling anywhere in the motherlode mine
Crystal axe
 • Entering the Abyss via the appropriate blockage
 • Chopping tendrils in the swamp on Fossil Island
 • Chopping jungle and fixing the fence in Tai Bwo Wannai Village
 • Chopping ents beneath the Woodcutting Guild or in the Wilderness
 • Chopping the Meat Tree in a Muttadile room in the Chambers of Xeric
 • Chopping through a roots obstacle in the Chambers of Xeric
 • Chopping kindling in the Chambers of Xeric
 • Pruning the Growthlings in the Bryophyta fight by using the axe on them
 • Splitting arctic pine logs
In addition, we have fixed an issue where Crystal Axe charges were depleted when it was carried during Tai Bwo Wannai cleanup, even though the axe cannot be used. Graceful Set Effect
Afbeelding
Previously, run energy restored 30% faster while wearing all 6 pieces of the Graceful outfit. Now, the hood, cape, gloves, and boots give an individual 3% boost, and the top and legs give 4% each. This adds up to a 20% run energy bonus with an additional 10% bonus for wearing the whole outfit, which matches the previous 30% boost.Digging Up Herbs
Afbeelding
Although Farming patches don't normally let you dig up healthy crops before they're fully grown, this is now permitted for herb patches. As we would prefer players didn't grind for XP by repeatedly planting and digging up cheap herb seeds, the XP that was previously given when a herb seed is planted will instead be given when the patch is harvested, alongside the usual harvesting XP. Fremennik Sea Boots The inventory icons for the Fremennik Sea Boots (from the Fremennik Achievement Diary) have been adjusted to make them look more like boots.

AfbeeldingTwisted League Closing
The Twisted League will close at 9am UTC on Thursday January 16th after a 30-minute countdown. This process may cause the regular game update to arrive later than usual. The rank thresholds as of 4pm UTC yesterday (January 8th) are:
 1. Dragon - 17,840
 2. Rune - 10,020
 3. Adamant - 5,120

Twisted League Reward Shop and Game Improvements

Originele tekst

This week sees the end of the Twisted League, the opening of the League Reward Shop, and some more game improvements from Poll #69.
AfbeeldingTwisted League & Reward Shop

After two months, the Twisted League has come to an end. It's been amazing to watch all of you run (no offence, Walker Gang) around Kourend and Kebos, earning League Points and in general, having a great time. We've gathered a few Twisted statistics that we'd like to share:
 • The average total level of players in the League was 1033
 • A total of 1,097,825 Slayer Tasks were completed during the League
 • 23 Twisted Bows were dropped
 • 7024 pets were obtained - the Phoenix was the most common, with 3079 of those flying around, and the rarest was the Olmlet, with just 20 of them making an appearance
 • The Chambers of Xeric were completed 24,574 times
 • A total of 2,750,304 Farming Contracts were completed during the League
 • 3,044,516 Clue Scrolls were solved and completed - consisting of 957,516 Easy, 656,122 Medium, 1,200,141 Hard, 97,097 Elite, and 133,640 Master
 • The most completed task saw 105,456 of you complete the Level 20 Thieving League task
 • The second most completed task saw 97,549 of you complete the Level 20 Woodcutting League task
 • The third most completed task saw 95,363 of you complete the Level 20 Firemaking League task

Oh, is there something we've missed? Don't worry, we haven't forgotten to hand out your Twisted League Trophies!

To claim the untradeable Trophies for your rank, log into the account you played Twisted League on, and speak to the Leagues Tutor on Kourend and Kebos. The final rank thresholds are as follows:
 • Dragon - 20,830
 • Rune - 10,820
 • Adamant - 5,270
 • Mithril - 1,770
 • Steel - 510
 • Iron - 80
 • Bronze - 10
Players who have not logged in to Leagues since the update which allowed the automatic claiming of League Points will be teleported to a black void upon logging into the Twisted League world. But don't panic! This temporary state will only last until the system has recovered your unclaimed League Points and calculated your final point total. You'll be logged out once the points are claimed. If you are a member use the member Twisted League worlds, or if your membership has run out you can use the F2P Twisted League worlds.

Players who do not have any League Points to claim will not be able to log into the Twisted League world and need not fear the black void of calculation.

With the close of the Twisted League, the League Reward Shop has opened for business! You can access the shop by talking to the Leagues Tutor, who is still hanging out in Kourend Castle.

The table below details the rewards available and their cost in League Points:
RewardCost

Twisted League Banner750

Twisted League Home Teleport Scroll750

Twisted League Outfit (Tiers 1, 2 and 3).1,000, 2,500, and 10,000.

Twisted League POH Wall Kit4,000

Twisted League Slayer Helm Recolour6,000
[/tabel]

We'd like to thank everyone who played through Twisted League and gave us their feedback. We've taken it on board as we explore ideas for future Leagues. We'll share news of upcoming Leagues as we're able to.

Players can now get the Glowing Dagger and Blurite Swords after finishing the Legends' Quest & The Knight's Sword.

In order to obtain a new Blurite Sword post-quest, players must give Thurgo a blurite ore and two iron bars.

In order to receive a new Glowing Dagger, players can speak to Radimus Erkle.

Additionally, the stepping stones in Legends' Quest will no longer prompt the player about crossing if they have finished the quest.

The Old School RuneScape Wiki has been integrated with the official client on both desktop and mobile! The following features are now available:Entity Lookup and Search
Afbeelding
Right clicking or long pressing the Wiki icon brings up "Lookup-entity" and "Search" options. "Lookup-entity" allows you to click/tap on any entity in the game world or your inventory/worn items and automatically open the relevant Wiki page in your web browser. "Search" allows you to enter a term in the chatbox and search the Wiki for any relevant pages. You can also search by typing "::wiki (search term)" in the chatbox. Quest and Achievement Diary Links
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
Right-clicking/long pressing on a Quest or Achievement Diary will now give you the option to open a Wiki guide.
AfbeeldingBags, Sacks and Spice Racks
Open & Close Options
Afbeelding
Open and Close options have been added to certain receptacles. While open, suitable items will be added to the vessels automatically on pick-up.
 • Seed Box - works on any seeds picked up from the ground
 • Herb Sack - works on any grimy herbs picked up from the ground, harvested from herb patches and harvested from Herbiboars
 • Coal Bag - works on any coal mined from rocks
 • Gem Bag - works on any gems obtained while mining or pickpocketing Tzhaar creatures
The Spice Rack
Afbeelding
You can now build a Spice Rack in the kitchen of your POH. This requires 60 Construction, 3 teak planks, 6 soft clay and four doses of each colour of spice. The rack itself can store 2.147 billion doses of each spice - we hope that's enough!

Bounty Hunter
Afbeelding
We're sorry to announce that we've taken the decision to close the Bounty Hunter worlds until further notice.Bounty Hunter's design unfortunately leaves it prey to gold farmers, who abuse its mechanics to generate GP in excess of the amounts available via legitimate methods. While this had not reached a scale that could affect the in-game economy, it undermines other game content and the overall integrity of the game. Because these issues existed before the rework, we do not believe that simply undoing it would solve them. This is quite clearly not the outcome that any of us wanted, but right now we're convinced it's the best option available to us. We recognise that the removal of Bounty Hunter will mean that there are some unique items that will be temporarily unavailable. We will not be opening a temporary shop to give access to these items unless we're able to reach a swift resolution. Right now, we are discussing both technical and rules enforcement-based solutions. You can expect a statement about this and the future of Bounty Hunter tomorrow, on Friday January 24th. Last Man Standing
Afbeelding
In other PvP news, we're re-enabling the High Stakes mode of Last Man Standing on members' LMS worlds. This time you must deposit 50,000 GP to enter. We're also reducing the cost of some items in the LMS rewards shop: Wilderness Crabs Teleports will now cost 1 point and trouver parchments will cost 30 points.

The Future of Bounty Hunter and PvP

The Future of Bounty Hunter and PvP

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingThe Future of Bounty Hunter and PvP
Afbeelding
In response to issues around boosting, we closed Bounty Hunter worlds in yesterday's game update. It's time to make a change. Not just to Bounty Hunter, but to our approach to PvP as a whole. PvP is a cornerstone of Old School. Currently it deserves better, so we're taking a step back and considering its place in the overall game. Our goal is to determine a long-term vision for PvP. Rather than move from one release to the next, we want a clear direction for the next few years that will inform how we design content moving forward. The Old School team will begin focusing on PvP content during our February design days. We want to come back to you with ideas that we can shape and adjust together with our players to ensure PvP becomes something we're all happy with. As part of our ongoing commitment, we also hope to re-release Bounty Hunter in a couple of months, provided we can establish a way to consistently monitor and act against boosting. In addition, some gameplay elements will be redesigned based on feedback we've received so far. During the downtime, the minigame will remain closed and items that are unique to its reward shop will be made available elsewhere. Our plan is still to make Bounty Hunter a success. If it still doesn't deliver the experience PvP players are looking for, or match our long-term vision, we will re-consider its place in Old School. It's even possible it may give way to a larger plan for PvP.Thank you for your patience, and we hope you'll continue to join us in shaping the future of Old School.~ The Old School Team

The Nightmare of Ashihama

Bericht door Bot »

The Nightmare of Ashihama

Originele tekst

A dark force has made its home beneath the town of Slepe. Do you have what it takes to defeat The Nightmare?
AfbeeldingThe Nightmare of Ashihama
Afbeelding
It started with a dream.

For too long, the sirens of Ashihama had been plagued by a terrifying monster known only as The Nightmare. They dreamt of one day defeating the creature for good, but they only succeeded in driving it across the ocean, to a far-off land where even the bravest of sirens feared to tread. A land called Morytania.

But one siren, Shura, refused to give up on her dream. Many of her companions had fallen victim to The Nightmare in that final battle, and she wasn't about to let it hurt anyone else. She journeyed across the ocean, where she found The Nightmare lurking in the cursed town of Slepe. It was injured. It was weakened. But it was slowly making its presence known, feeding on the dreams of the innocent townsfolk and growing stronger every moment.

Shura can't face The Nightmare alone. She needs your help to beat it back, to keep it contained until she's able to defeat it once and for all.

Are you up to the challenge? Or will you fall, like so many others, to the eldritch power of The Nightmare?
AfbeeldingThe Basics
If it's your first time visiting Morytania, you'll need to complete the Priest in Peril quest before you can proceed. The Nightmare is a group boss located beneath the Sisterhood Sanctuary in Slepe. To get there quickly, you can take a boat straight to Slepe from outside Port Phasmatys for a fee of 10,000 coins. Or, if you've completed A Taste of Hope, use Drakan's medallion to teleport to Ver Sinhaza and run north.
Afbeelding
Once you enter the Sanctuary, move down into the crypt, where you will find Shura waiting for you.
Afbeelding
Upon entering the arena and disturbing The Nightmare, a timer will begin counting down the seconds until she awakes. You have until then to join the instance, for once the fight begins it will be too dangerous to cross the barrier. Up to 80 players can enter the arena at one time.
Afbeelding
Notably, Iron players must enter the fight through a different portal, located across the room from Shura. This system protects against griefing, in much the same way as in the Corporeal Beast instance.
Afbeelding
If you're unsure how much longer is left in the current battle, take a look at the symbols beneath The Nightmare's husk in the Sisterhood Sanctuary. Each one indicates a different phase of the fight.
Afbeelding
If you die in the dream, you die in real life! Well, in your real Old School life, anyway. This means that Hardcore Iron players will lose their status if they die to The Nightmare. Regular players need not panic too much: years of island living have made Shura an adept scavenger, and should you succumb to The Nightmare she will rescue your items and charge a fee of 60,000 coins to return them to you. Hey, a girl's gotta make a living.
Afbeelding
The Rewards
To earn your reward from The Nightmare, you must do a minimum amount of damage.

The quantity of non-unique drops will scale with the damage dealt during the fight. The MVP will get an extra 10% of the non-unique drop on top.

The Nightmare also has a rare chance to drop a single unique reward when she dies. This item can be given to any player that met the damage threshold, but players with higher contributions will have a better chance of getting it.

Finally, in addition to the main unique drop, every player who contributes enough to the fight will have a chance of getting one of The Nightmare's tertiary drops. These are the pet, jar and clue scroll drops. Again, the more you contribute the higher your chances are.

Finally, in addition to her main unique drop, every player who contributes enough will have a chance of getting one of her tertiary drops. These are the pet, jar and clue scroll drops. The chance of getting one of these drops is based upon how high the players contribution is.

Inquisitor's Mace

The Inquisitor's Mace was once the personal weapon of The Inquisitor, one of the founders of Slepe. Since the sleeping curse incident and the subsequent disappearance of the Sisterhood's leadership, it has remained sealed in the Sisterhood Sanctuary, lost to the world. However, The Nightmare's arrival has unearthed this powerful weapon. Are you brave enough to claim it?
Afbeelding
This 1-handed crush weapon is a rare drop from The Nightmare. It is tradeable and requires 75 Attack to equip. It does not degrade. It has the following stats:
Afbeelding
Nightmare Staff and Orbs

Its former name long since lost to the world, the Nightmare Staff is a powerful magic weapon once in the possession of the shamans of Ashihama. Through the use of different coloured orbs, the shamans were able to adapt the staff to any task, giving them complete power over the island. Alas, even the shamans were not able to withstand the power of The Nightmare. Now, their staff is all that remains...
Afbeelding
The Nightmare Staff is a rare drop from The Nightmare. It is tradeable and requires 65 Magic and 50 Hitpoints to equip. It does not degrade and can autocast both standard and Ancient spells. It has the following stats:
Afbeelding
The Nightmare also has a rare chance of dropping three different orbs. These orbs are tradeable and can be attached to the Nightmare Staff to change its powers. Attaching an orb to the staff makes it untradeable and gives it a Magic requirement of 75. The orbs have the following effects:
 • Harmonised Orb (blue): Allows the Staff to cast standard spells a tick faster than normal and removes the tick delay when autocasting. However, the staff loses the ability to autocast Ancient spells.
 • Volatile Orb (orange): Gives the Staff a special attack that fires a single spell at the target. This spell requires no runes to use but costs 55% special attack energy. The attack deals up to 58 base damage (which can be increased using damage boosting items) with 50% improved accuracy. This number includes the Staff's own Magic damage bonus.
 • Eldritch Orb (green): Gives the Staff a special attack that fires a single spell at the target. This spell requires no runes to use but costs 75% special attack energy. The attack deals up to 44 base damage (which can be increased using damage boosting items). This number includes the Staff's own Magic damage bonus. It also restores the caster's Prayer points by 50% of the damage dealt. This can boost the caster's Prayer points above their Prayer level to a maximum of 120.
In dangerous PvP deaths, staffs with orbs attached will drop both the staff and the orb.Inquisitor's Armour

The Inquisitor's Armour once belonged to The Inquisitor. She crafted it from her old Justiciar garb, altering it to better reflect her newfound ferocity. The Nightmare's emergence has disturbed this powerful armour from its resting place, ready for a new owner to claim it.
Afbeelding
When killed, The Nightmare has a rare chance of dropping one of the three pieces of The Inquisitor's Armour, a new set of melee armour with a focus on crush accuracy and defence. The three pieces are the Great Helm, the Hauberk and the Plateskirt. All three pieces require 70 Strength and 30 Defence to equip. They are all tradeable, do not degrade, and can be packed into a set at the Grand Exchange.

The Inquisitor's Armour has the following stats:

The PvP World Rota is switching over to Period A. On the east of the Atlantic hosts the High Risk PvP world (W43, Germany). On the west of the Atlantic, host the Standard PvP world (W24, USA) and the F2P PvP world (W117, USA). The LMS Competitive world (W17, UK) has been removed.
 • A typo has been fixed on the crystal bowl in Prifddinas.
 • Depositing or withdrawing items from the underwater leprechaun will now update your effective weight for swimming.
 • The tooltip for the dragon dagger's special attack now correctly states its accuracy buff as 15%.
 • Undamaged monkey tails will now count for the collection log when obtained from Hunter.
Special thanks to Mod Ian and Mod Surma for their work on the music and sound effects for The Nightmare.

Remember, the horror doesn't end here. Stay tuned for the next step in the Morytania expansion: the vampyre fortress of Darkmeyer.

Poll #69: Game Improvements
We've implemented the final changes from Old School Poll #69.Phoenix Recolours
Afbeelding
The Phoenix pet can now be recoloured by using 250 of the same colour firelighters on it. Another 250 red firelighters will turn it back to its original colour. Please note this is not an unlock and will require you to use 250 firelighters on the Phoenix pet each time you want to recolour it.
Explore Emote
Afbeelding
Players can now unlock the "Explore" emote for completing 600 Beginner clue scrolls. If you have met these requirements already, you will need to open one more Beginner clue casket to unlock the emote.

Bounty Hunter Rewards
Afbeelding
Back when we were first testing Bounty Hunter Rework, we added the Rune Pouch and the Looting Bag to Slayer Masters' Reward Shops to ensure they were still obtainable. We have done the same on this occasion, and taken the opportunity to make other items available via PvP activities.

Since Bounty Hunter is now inaccessible until its re-release, we have made the following rewards available elsewhere:
 • Slayer Masters now sell the Rune Pouch for 1.2 million coins. Iron players cannot purchase this.
 • Slayer Masters now sell the Looting Bag for 30,000 coins. Iron players can purchase this.
 • The Ornate Maul Handle is now available in the Last Man Standing Reward Shop for 15 points.
 • Saradomin's Tear is now available in the Last Man Standing Reward Shop for 150 points.
 • The Magic Shortbow Scroll, Ring of Wealth Scroll, and clue box have been added to the Wilderness Slayer loot table, on the enchantments roll.
We will be monitoring the Last Man Standing store to ensure that these prices are fair.

Welcome Screen
Back in September, we tested out an updated welcome screen layout which replaced redundant information and dead space with information about the game's content. We're pleased to announce that it went very well, and we'll be rolling it out for everyone this week. If you'd prefer to see the old layout instead, we have placed a "Switch Style" button in the top left corner of the screen which toggles the new layout on and off.

In Other News
While Bounty Hunter is on hiatus, the Bounty Hunter world will become a PvP world. This means worlds 324 and 325 will both be PvP worlds simultaneously. We're also making the following changes to all PvP worlds:
 • The PJ timer will be extended from 10 seconds to 15 seconds in single-way combat and from 5 to 10 in multi.
 • The range of combat levels you can attack or be attacked at in the Wilderness will be lowered from 15 levels above or below to 10.
These changes may be tweaked or even reverted if they don't improve the PvP experience.
Other Changes
 • Baby dragons now have their colour in their name in order to help colourblind players determine which is which.
 • The full and half full imp-in-a-box is now more distinguishable from the empty one.
 • The Tier 4 armourer in Lovakengj now has some drawers to search for supply crates, as promised in his dialogue.
 • While the BH world is unavailable, the emblem trader in the Revenants' Cave will trade artefacts on worlds 318 and 319.
 • High Stakes LMS has had its entry fee raised to 100k. It may rise further in future updates if traffic holds up.
 • The spice rack entry in the Construction skill guide now lists all the requirements to build one.

Nightmare of Ashihama - Day One Changes

Originele tekst

The Nightmare of Ashihama Day One Feedback Changes
It's great to see so many of you psyching yourselves up and facing The Nightmare. We'd like to thank everyone who played through the content yesterday and told us what they think. We have made the following changes based on your feedback:
 • The surge attack delay has now been increased by one tick
 • The defend sound has been lowered to avoid bursting eardrums
 • The MVP will now receive big bones as a drop to signify their status
 • There is now a greater chance to receive food and potions as a drop, and their quantity has been increased
 • The Nightmare Staff now has a separate roll from the other uniques, much like the Spirit shield from the Corporeal Beast
The above changes are now live, and we'll continue to monitor player feedback and interaction with the Nightmare, and we'll make any additional changes next week. One such change we'll make next week is recolouring notification messages to help them stand out more.Don't fall asleep!
Update: 17:00 UTC 7th February. We're continuing to investigate reports of lag and crashes, most notably from those playing on iPhones running iOS 13.3. We've made progress, but more investigation is needed, and we'll update you early next week.

Gielinor Gazette: Feburary 2020

Originele tekst

Afbeelding
Hello and welcome to the Gielinor Gazette! What is the Gielinor Gazette, you may ask? And it's a fine question. At the moment the vast bulk of our comms are split into two categories: A) What's happening in the game now? (game updates and the like); and B) What's happening in the game in the future? (poll blogs). As a team, however, we wanted a way to talk to you about, well, whatever we want really! So from now on you can expect a new issue of the Gielinor Gazette every month, and each one will be slightly different. We may chat about the team. Or about a project we're working on. Or perhaps about how some older content has been received. Or anything else we think you'll be interested in!In this issue we'll offer some insight into Leagues, introduce some new faces, say goodbye to a long-standing member of the team, talk about new players, share our plans for the biggest ever survey, and more!
AfbeeldingLeagues Retrospective
We know that quite a few of you were pretty surprised when we first announced Old School Leagues. That was kind of the point, in a way, but we also realise that this surprise unsettled some of you. The Gielinor Gazette will be a great place for us to talk about our longer-term plans, meaning you'll all hopefully have a better insight into what's brewing in the future. For now, though, we're going to take a look back at Leagues, and explain some of the thinking behind it.The BeginningThe seed at the heart of Leagues was the idea that we might set up a temporary 'vanilla' server that could be reset from time to time. The thinking was that this would be a nice way for players enjoy the thrill of the 'race to the top' again. Plus, from a development perspective it looked like good value - resets would be simple and quick, and we knew that a certain type of Old School player would get a real thrill out of it.Looking at other games which had employed similar models, such as Path of Exile and Diablo, we then started thinking about specific, themed modifications that could be run on these servers. As a team we pondered how this might look, what the rewards might be, and how we could keep it fun despite the repeated server resets.
AfbeeldingSome conceptual variations of the task difficulty icons. Click the image to expand it.
Ideas Take ShapeThe thought that appealed the most at this early stage was Zeah Locked Ironman, thanks of course to the inspiration of the various community-made series (shoutout to Settled, CavemanOnly, TurtleTale, Framed). At the same time, games such as Slay the Spire demonstrate the appeal of big choices. After lots of brainstorming, some even involving Jagex CEO Mod Pips, we eventually arrived at the idea of Relics! One regret we do have is not involving our wonderful community at this stage. A lesson learned, certainly.Another obstacle we faced was the naming. We wanted to avoid the word 'Seasonal', as that doesn't really tell you anything at all about the gameplay and might also too lead to some confusion regarding our former Deadman tournaments. The name 'Old School: Evolved' was very popular internally but, as with 'Seasonal', did not really communicate anything about the content itself. 'Mutated' had some traction too, but was ultimately dismissed for being too sci-fi.
AfbeeldingAn early mock-up of the Twisted slayer helmet.
DevelopmentBefore we knew it, our ideas had evolved into something far bigger than we'd initially planned. We therefore had to ensure that we were giving ourselves enough time to properly execute on the plan.We had at one stage hoped to launch in October 2019, perhaps even with an announcement on the stage at RuneFest that the new mode would go live that same week. However, the addition of Relics, alongside the desire to hit the level of polish we wanted for the experience and the interface, meant a delay until November.Delays are never what we want, but if pushing content back means it releases in a better state - and saves the developers from 'crunch' - it's nearly always the right decision. Indeed, after delays to this as well as previous efforts such as Kebos Lowlands and Old School Mobile, we've shifted to announcing less specific release dates until content becomes more locked down and vital dev milestones have been hit.Revving the EngineTo support the reward structure (we wanted and to be able to send rewards from one game mode to another) we actually needed some never before seen engine additions. In some circumstances this might have been a reason to change direction, pressing on with the build has opened up the door to lots of other possibilities in the future. It would be extremely useful should Deadman ever return, for instance.

Post ReleaseWe were really pleased that Twisted League was such a phenomenal success. We're thrilled that so many of you tried it, and we've got lots of data we're planning to share. We can't thank you enough for all of the support you've shown us - your excitement has sparked loads of discussions about what we're going to do for the next League. Right now we're currently busy refining some designs, and we're close to being able to share more!
AfbeeldingThe Early Game and Adventure Paths
We've previously explained that while supporting our current players is of course vital and central to Old School's success, it's also crucial that we attract and retain new players. We've spent a lot of time analysing player behaviour both during the tutorial and when reaching the mainland. A combination of quantitative (monitoring game interaction) and qualitative (speaking to players) data has led us to ascertain that there's a sharp drop-off once the players reach the mainland because there's no clear indication of what they should do next.
AfbeeldingHere is the interface for the Combat Path, released August 8th 2019.
Adventure PathsOn August 8th 2019 we released the Combat Path, giving players a series of early starting milestones that offer a few sensible rewards. Both data and feedback has shown that this is clearly helping new players get into Old School, so we're keen to expand the idea with other paths covering things like quests and various non-combat skills. All of which leads us to something we're calling the Gatherer Path.
AfbeeldingHere's how the proposed Gatherer Path looks at this moment in time. It's worth noting that it's still in development and the interface and text may change.
This path is designed to introduce new players to the gathering skills - Fishing, Mining and Woodcutting. It will help them with suggestions about where they might train these skills and how to go about getting the tools they need to do so.
AfbeeldingWith the Gatherer Path will come the use of arrows and tips to help players find their way.
The Combat Path is actually quite long, leading players all the way up to level 20. We're keen to keep experimenting with this, so with the Gatherer Path we're going to guide players to level 5 in the associated skills.

We'll be releasing the Gatherer Path in the coming weeks and, as always, we look forward to hearing your feedback.Tutorial Island and the MainlandTutorial Island is a fundamental part of RuneScape's history - it's quintessentially Old School. Arming new players with knowledge and a sense of purpose is vital for retaining them, and that begins with Tutorial Island. We've already made various minor changes to Tutorial Island over the last couple of years, and that will continue as we look to improve its flow. We want to reiterate that this is not about changing what Tutorial Island is. Instead, it's about preparing new players to tackle the challenges that Gielinor presents. We'll only make changes where the tutorial is too slow, doesn't quite convey enough information, or where we think that new information could better be learned elsewhere.Consider the Bank, for example. Players on Tutorial Island don't have many items, so it might be that they're better served by learning about the Bank and its functions on the mainland instead. We're also looking at what other small improvements we can make to players as soon as they reach the mainland which won't affect the feel of the game. These will only ever be minor changes to streamline existing gameplay. We made these types of changes to Cook's Assistant last year, where we added some left-click options to things in the windmill, and we expanded the Quest Journal's text to be more helpful.
Afbeelding
Next StepsWe hope we've sufficiently conveyed the importance of the new player experience, and been clear about the types of changes we're making to improve the early game. That's why we're going to continue making these types of changes without polling them. To ensure we're getting it right, we'll continue talking to you, getting your feedback, and collaborating with your ideas.

Bounty Hunter, PvP, and Competitive GamingLate last month we removed Bounty Hunter from the game (you can read more about that here). It's still our desire to make changes and re-release Bounty Hunter in the coming months, but the issues that plagued Bounty Hunter are a symptom of a bigger issue. It's apparent that we lack a clear overarching PvP vision. We're going to take time to consider how PvP fits in Old School, and what that means for the future of PvP. We'll aim to share that vision prior to the re-release of Bounty Hunter. It's also worth noting that whilst competitive gaming and esports isn't inherently entwined with PvP, they are linked. This means that we won't be detailing any of our plans for competitive gaming and esports until we've arrived at our PvP vision. You might be aware that last year Mod Rogue was hired as our new Head of Esports, and we'd like to take this opportunity to answer any questions you might have about what that entails. Mod Rogue was not tasked with a general goal of 'reviving PvP' or even 'reviving Deadman'. She isn't a content developer, and there was never any expectation that she'd be developing and releasing game content. Her goal has been to make competitive gaming work for Jagex, which includes both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. That includes building structured formats with clear paths for competitive players, and also considering how we might vary game content to experiment and to provide a bit of something for everybody (PvM and skilling, rather than just PvP). A bulk of the work has been assessing how competitive gaming can serve Jagex's needs as a business. Competitive gaming and esports can prove expensive, and so a lot of work and effort has been put into addressing how things like sponsorships and working with established brands can maximise the impact of any endeavours. We want to share our plans for competitive gaming as soon as we possibly can, but there's still work to be done before we're in a position to do so. Any news about competitive gaming and esports will be shared from the official Old School RuneScape channels.Death MechanicsIn recent Q&As we've spoken about our plans to change how Death works in Old School RuneScape. Tomorrow we'll be publishing the changes we propose to make. You'll be able to find the blog on the Old School homepage some time after tomorrow's game update has been launched. The proposal talks in great detail about our motivation for making the changes, and offers a lot of insight into how the changes will differently affect various groups of players. Gielinor Gazette: February 2020

Indeed, after delays to this as well as previous efforts such as Kebos Lowlands and Old School Mobile, we've shifted to announcing less specific release dates until content becomes more locked down and vital dev milestones have been hit.Revving the EngineTo support the reward structure (we wanted to be able to send rewards from one game mode to another) we actually needed some never before seen engine additions. In some circumstances this might have been a reason to change direction, but pressing on with the build has opened up the door to lots of other possibilities in the future. It would be extremely useful should Deadman ever return, for instance.

Nightmare Feedback and the Zalcano Loot Table

Originele tekst

This week sees a selection of changes to The Nightmare, Zalcano, and Last Man Standing.
AfbeeldingNightmare of Ashihama Feedback Changes
Afbeelding
A big thanks to everyone who bravely fought The Nightmare of Ashihama and gave us their feedback. We salute your bravery and determination to save the poor people of Slepe! We've been carefully monitoring the state of play since the update and have picked out a few changes that will go live today. Let's take a look:
 • A scoreboard has appeared near Shura, and shows personal kills, deaths, and fastest kill time as well as the global equivalents
 • Right-clicking on the entry portal will now allow you to spectate
 • Players may now collect multiple Drakan's Medallions from Kael Forshaw after completing A Taste of Hope
 • The Nightmare has been added to the Boss Kill Count section of the HiScores page
 • The player's Hitpoints Orb now changes pink to indicate a parasitic infection
 • Players can now pay Andras a one-time fee of 1 million coins to get unlimited free trips to Slepe
 • Pyrelords now have a superior version with a slightly enhanced drop table
 • The examine text for a certain coffin has been updated
 • Messages that appear during the boss fight are now different colours to improve readability
 • The volume of the Nightmare's defend sound has been reduced (again)
You can catch up on all of our other recent changes here. We're also pondering the idea of removing the Ironman portal, thus allowing Iron players to fight The Nightmare alongside non-Iron players. We'd love to know what you think!
AfbeeldingZalcano's Loot Table
Afbeelding
Protecting the in-game economy is of course a vital part of our ongoing work. After all, you don't want your treasured Bank stash to suddenly plummet in value. As such, we can confirm some unpolled changes to Zalcano's loot table:
 • Currently, Zalcano gives out a non-unique reward to everyone who contributed to the battle, and the MVP will get an additional non-unique reward. After today's update, everyone will still get one non-unique reward, but it will scale based on the number of points accrued, and the MVP will get 10% extra, just like in The Nightmare boss fight.
 • We've also reduced the number of unique Zalcano drops. After this update, every kill will trigger a 1/500 roll which, if it passes, will add a unique to the drop table. A separate roll will then be made to decide which unique that will be. Finally, the unique is randomly given to an eligible player. As always, the more you've contributed to the fight the better your chances will be.
 • Pet-hunters will be glad to hear that this doesn't apply to Smolcano - there are still plenty of those to go around. In fact, multiple pets can be obtained each fight! Never say we don't spoil you.
 • Finally, the non-unique drop table for Zalcano has been rebalanced to include less valuable items.
These changes are expected to significantly increase the rarity of Onyx gems from Zalcano, addressing concerns around their pricing. In other Zalcano news, we've fixed a bug where one of the rocks in the arena would never become active on spawn. Now, nowhere is safe!
AfbeeldingLast Man Standing
Afbeelding
Our efforts to rejuvenate Old School's PvP scene continue. Part of this work involves ensuring that PvP activities have a positive impact on the wider Old School experience. As such, this week we've focused on Last Man Standing:
 • First of all, the entry fee for Competitive Mode has been changed back to 10,000 coins. For High Stakes Mode it has been raised to 500,000 coins.
 • Now for the big stuff: we're aware that some unscrupulous types are using LMS to farm, so to combat this we've reduced the number of reward points awarded while playing LMS in F2P worlds. We're hoping that this will put farmers off without affecting genuine players too much, and we'll be keeping an eye on the situation as time goes on.
 • Iron players should know that from this update onwards, they will no longer be able to participate in High Stakes Mode. They will be able to play Competitive Mode, but will only get their entry fee back if they win.
 • Speaking of rewards, we've added a Tier-6 Cape to the LMS rewards shop that requires 1,000 wins to unlock. In addition, the cosmetic Deadman Armour, which has no stats, will no longer count as armour and is also less heavy.
AfbeeldingPhishing

You might notice that some questions in the Stronghold of Security have been updated to remove references to the old 'reportphishing' email inbox. We are trying to phase out this method of reporting scams. If you are unlucky enough to encounter a phishing scam, the best thing to do is to contact your email service provider. They will have a lot of experience in these matters and will almost certainly be able to help you. Remember - never click on a link from a sender you don't recognise, and always check the URL of any link you do intend to click on. Spelling mistakes or unusual domains are a big red flag!Remember, Jagex will never ask for your password, and will only use the email addresses listed on this page. Whenever possible, we try and let you know if an unexpected email is coming your way, and if you're ever in doubt just ask us through the usual channels and we can help confirm the authenticity of any RuneScape email.

 • Game world 538 has been opened for a Beta test of a new hardware setup. Players are invited to log in and play Clan Wars or Castle Wars with the items from the supply chests provided. Activity in the Beta will not affect your saved game profile.
 • A tile in the maniacal monkey caves has been prevented from eating any items dropped on it.
 • Players can now rearrange their Inventory while viewing their worn items in the Bank. They can also toggle the worn items view using the function key shortcuts.
 • The Varrock Herald now includes a scrollbar for ease of reading.
 • Players may no longer redeem bonds for membership on iOS devices if they already have an active membership.
 • The PJ timer in single-way areas of PvP worlds has returned to the usual 10 seconds.
 • A few squares of ocean near the Water Obelisk are now blocked correctly and can no longer be walked on.
 • The Locating Crystal from the Shilo Village quest no longer fails to respond for players who are a certain distance from the temple site.
 • All three colours of chinchompas now behave more consistently in PvP, meaning that they can't be dropped manually during combat, will appear on the ground instead of vanishing if dropped manually in a PvP area, and can be looted by PKers.
 • You will now be subject to the usual teleport ban for a short while after using the Eldritch and Volatile Nightmare Staff's special attacks in PvP worlds.
 • The Eldritch Nightmare Staff's special attack is now named 'Invocate' in the attack tooltip.
 • Ranalph Devere's graphical issue has been fixed and he's back to his handsome ghostly self.
 • A stray brown polygon has been removed from the dreadlocks hairstyle.
 • The dark blue version of the Graceful outfit can now again be stored in the POH wardrobe.
