QoL Month Poll: Re-runs

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingQoL Month Week 2: Skilling
It's time for our third week of QoL month - Re-runs! This part of QoL month, we're taking a look at previous polled suggestions that didn't quite make it and giving them another chance! We also discuss the options for increasing the rate at which Buckets of Sand may be obtained in further detail.

The schedule for Re-runs Week is as follows:
  • In-game poll live by 15/02
  • In-game poll closes 18/02
Make sure you head over to the Old School Content Suggestions forum, or Reddit (/r/2007scape/) to share your suggestions for Week 3 - Re-Runs!

Poll Question #1
Should the Wilderness ditch be replaced with a barrier that you do not have to click on? This barrier would require confirmation on a warning screen before you may cross to prevent luring.

Boss Heads and Chambers of Xeric

Boss Heads and Chambers of Xeric

Originele tekst

This week sees the release of increased utility for boss heads and further Chambers of Xeric Chambers changes.
AfbeeldingBoss Heads
As the stacks of boss heads have been building in players' banks, we've received more and more requests to add ways to make them useful, beyond the one-off uses such as re-colouring your Slayer helm. In response, we have made the changes found below to give some additional options.Assembler Effect for the Ranging CapeThose of you who have slain Vorkath enough times to get a Vorkath head drop can now use it on a Ranging cape to give it the same ammo collection rates as Ava's assembler. Until now, the Ranging cape has had the ammo-saving effects equivalent to Ava's accumalator. Bear in mind that you'll need to use Vorkath's head directly onto the cape - using a pre-made Ava's assembler will not work.
Afbeelding
The Dark AltarYou can now sacrifice your excess trophy head drops on Dark Altar to gain Prayer XP. This gives a flat rate of 2,500 XP for each head except Vorkath's which grants 1,000 XP as it's the most common. Using the Dark Altar in this way does not require any Arceuus or other favour and can be done in bulk, hence the reduced XP compared to using Vorkath's head as an Ensouled dragon's head sacrifice - which remains an option.

This update also brings more of the changes we proposed in last month's Chambers of Xeric Revisited blog. We're still not done with the Chambers; in particular, we've yet to address an issue with the Vanguard detailed in the blog, and players have suggested other things they'd like us to improve about the balancing of the Chambers. In the meantime, the following changes have been made:
  • The Great Olm's fire may now be doused with various vessels of water and the Humidify spell.
  • Clue scrolls received in the Chambers of Xeric now count as an additional loot item.
  • Monster Examine may now be cast on monsters within the Chambers of Xeric.

World RotaLast week we switched the rota to Period A, but we left world 325 open as a second PvP world, as an experiment to see whether there'd be enough traffic for two of them. If this had worked out, we'd have been able to take worlds 324 and 325 out of the rota, and leave them both open as standard PvP worlds, permanently. However, the splitting of the traffic between the two worlds hasn't worked well, and we'd like to end the experiment now. As it's Period A, world 324 will remain open as the standard PvP world, and world 325 will no longer be a PvP world until the rota switches to Period B, on Thursday 21st.
  • Items dropped in the Blast Furnace room will now only ever appear to the person who dropped them. Items dropped at the Wintertodt will behave the same way except empty Vials and Jugs which will be destroyed on drop. Any items awarded by the Wintertodt crates which are dropped, will appear to other players after one minute as usual since most of those items have value, and players commented that they enjoy being able to scavenge each other's unwanted rewards
  • Unfinished Torstol vials are now able to be used in place of a clean Torstol when making Super Combat potions.
  • Veos has been relocated to the Northern part of Port Sarim - replacing the corsairs who are now found at a dock in Rimmington. The Sheared Ram pub in Lumbridge remains the same as there were far fewer complaints that this does not fit thematically.
  • The strange portal that appeared by Port Sarim was removed.
  • The Regen bracelet's effect no longer works in free to play.
  • A typo during the Forgettable tale... quest has been corrected.
  • Scrolls of redirection now correctly check against certain Construction level requirements.
  • Mistakenly redirecting a teleport tablet to where it is currently redirected will no longer consume a Scroll of redirection.
  • Bunnies will no longer stand on top of Tool Leprechauns in the Farming Guild.
  • The shape puzzle interface in the Barrows no longer blocks out the whole screen in resizeable mode. Instead, its filler fades out towards its edges.
  • The Examine text of the Devout boots has been corrected.
  • The Examine text of the Dragon hasta (kp) has been made consistent with other (kp) hastae.
  • An open doorway in Piscarillius can now be walked through.
  • Some floating dirt in the Monkey Madness II caverns now correctly obeys gravity.
  • Some typos in the Wintertodt messaging have been corrected.
  • When collecting items from the take-all section in the gravestone menu, equippable items are now prioritised. This has not changed for Ultimate Ironmen.

6th Birthday and QoL

Originele tekst

This week sees the release of OldSchool RuneScape's 6th birthday event and the remaining changes from QoL Combat and Skilling polls!
AfbeeldingOld School's 6th Birthday
Afbeelding
Friday 22nd February marks the 6th anniversary of the launch of Old School RuneScape. It's been a fantastic journey, with player numbers gradually growing to their current highs, as the game carved out its own distinct identity within the RuneScape universe as a fully fledged MMO in its own right. We'd like to thank you all for your support over the years; without the passion of its players, OSRS would never have even existed, and without your perseverance, it would have faded out long ago instead of flourishing as it has. We're marking the birthday with a small holiday event. Beneath the Falador Party Room, in the underground museum, the artisans have opened the exhibition of major updates from the last 12 months, and a selection of RuneScape's familiar faces have gathered for a party.
Afbeelding
The Cook from Lumbridge Castle has appeared in Falador to cater for this party and, in a nod to our oldest quest, he's going to need an assistant. Meet him in Falador, in the museum below the Party Room, and see what he needs. Hint: Bring your own cabbage. There's a cake in it for you. A big one. You'll also get to unlock all the items and emotes from previous years' birthday celebrations.Birthday LivestreamMake sure to join us on our Twitch channel tomorrow (Friday 22nd) at 3pm GMT to further celebrate Old School's 6th birthday! We'll spend this time to look back on the history of Old School. You can also expect lot's of stats and information from Mod Mat K's data segment. Merch Store UpdateTo coincide with Old School's 6th birthday, we're adding lots of new merch to our store alongside the livestream! You can expect some new pins and keyrings from AngelsScapes including a commemorative 6th Birthday Gnome Child.

AfbeeldingAutocasting and Attack Styles
Following player requests during Combat week of QoL month, these two changes have been made:Autocast OptionsMagical weapons which share the same spell selections will now remember previously chosen spells for autocasting. This means you can switch between your various weapons, knowing that the same spell will be ready when you switch back to your staff or wand! Note that your autocast selection will not be remembered in PvP areas.
Afbeelding
Combat StylesWeapons that share a category (daggers, swords, bows etc.) will now remember the combat style that was used. For example, if you equip a Rune sword and select the Aggressive option before switching to another weapon like a bow and changing style to Accurate, switching back to the Rune sword will retain the Aggressive combat style.
Afbeelding
Here's an example of how the two changes above may interact to be aware of:If you use the Ancient staff on autocast mode, and are on the Ancients spellbook, you can correctly select an ancients spell. If you then switch to a sword, you come off of autocast, and if you switch back you go onto autocast. However, if you switch to, say, a Fire staff which cannot cast ancients, it correctly switches to a melee mode, this then has changed the combat mode for all staves, so re-equipping that Ancient staff will not put it back into autocast mode.
AfbeeldingAutomated Processes
During Skilling week of QoL month, you asked for several processes which require each individual item to be used to happen automatically, so we've made these changes to the processes below. Note that doing each of these manually will still be faster waiting for them to happen automatically to avoid affecting current XP rates. However, the automatic option offers a less click intense method to those who want it. Auto-enchanting jewellery:
Afbeelding
Enchant jewellery spells will now automatically enchant the next items of the same type once the spell has been cast on the first. For example, a player who selects to enchant a Sapphire ring, will have all other Sapphire rings enchanted over time in their inventory. The three processes below will also continue automatically once started:
  • Each step of creating Serum 207
  • Filling Watering cans
  • Splitting Coconuts with a hammer
AfbeeldingOther QoL Changes
The Magic skill guide has had its icons updated to be the relevant spell beside it:
Afbeelding
The following remaining changes from both the Combat and Skilling weeks of QoL month have also been made:
  • Fossil and Ancient Wyverns now drop Volcanic Ash
  • Volcanic ash obtained by mining now scaled to your Mining level. Those go from 1 ash at level 22 Mining to 6 ash at 97 Mining
  • It is now possible to fill Gricoller's can using regular water sources as opposed to only being able to fill it by paying Farmer Gricoller 20 Tithe points
  • Rings of forging are now available to free players and can be bought from other players. Alternatively, you can give Murky Matt in the Grand Exchange 250GP for every Ruby ring you would like to enchant

The PvP rota is switching over to Period B. On the east of the Atlantic, host the Standard PvP world (W25, UK) and the F2P PvP world (W71, UK). On the west of the Atlantic, host the Bounty Hunter world (W19, USA) and the High Risk PvP world (W37, USA).
  • The Protect Item Prayer icon in PvP worlds has been reverted to its previous icon
  • The behaviour of the Altars in the POH Achievement Gallery was changed
  • Some of the wording for the requirements of Mourning's Ends Part I was changed
  • The message received when cracking eggs into an empty bowl was added to the game filter
  • Players are no longer able to plant Box traps near the ladder to the Ourania altar and items dropped in that area will also not appear to other players
  • Some text was added to the Corsair Curse quest journal to explain where Captain Tock's ship is
  • The Ferocious gloves have been added to the Attack and Defence skill guides
  • It is no longer possible to cast Alchemy on Steel key rings
  • A missing hyphen has been added to Ak-haranu's Exotic Shop
  • Opening the Brimstone chest will now give a loot broadcast in the chatbox to say what has been received
  • A typo that appeared when a Potato cactus was diseased was fixed
  • An outfit for an upcoming event has been added to the Costume Room in players' POHs
  • The Molch infiltrator no longer interferes with players trying to use magical attacks or chinchompas on the lizardman shamans outside Molch
  • The yew trees at the southern side of Melzar's Maze have been restored to their previous layout
  • A NPC appears on Veos' ship when it's moored in Port Sarim to tell players where to find the corsairs

AfbeeldingQoL Month Week 4: Miscellaneous
It's time for our fourth week of QoL month - Miscellaneous! For the final part of QoL month we have gathered a plethora of suggestions that didn't quite fit in the previous weeks! We also will include the proposed sand changes discussed last week.

The schedule for Miscellaneous Week is as follows:
  • In-game poll live by 22/02 (dependent on feedback)
  • In-game poll closes 26/02
Make sure you head over to the Old School Content Suggestions forum, or Reddit (/r/2007scape/) to share your suggestions for Week 4 - Other changes! As a quick mention - we are aware of the bug that affected some players shortly after today's update went live, resulting in unwanted combat XP on some accounts. If you were affected by this, make sure to check out this this Tweet and or this forum thread..

Poll Question #1
Should the Achievement Diary requirement that asks players to complete a round of the Trouble Brewing minigame be changed to only require they enter the lobby instead? The requirements to start Trouble Brewing will not be affected.

Crack the Clue II and Treasure Trails Expansion

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingCrack the Clue 2
In 2016 we saw the release of Crack the Clue. After 12 gruelling months of theorising, searching and inspecting pixels, the Helm of Raedwald was finally found! Congratulations once again, Pikachu Yip! The time has come to bring you the sequel to your favourite clue-seeker event with Crack the Clue 2. Gather your friends and spades and delve into the depths of Gielinor to uncover hidden treasures from a secret organisation.
Similar to the last clue-seeker event, over the course of the next couple of weeks we will be releasing hints to help Crack the Clue. These clues will be solvable in game allowing you to unlock a piece of a brand-new set of cosmetic gear!
Once all clues have been released, the information they provide can be combined to create an especially challenging mystery. The first player to successfully solve it will be forever commemorated in the game. All players who are able to complete the clue will also receive the final piece of equipment to complete the set!
For all things Crack the Clue, be sure to follow our dedicated Clue-hunting Discord, and Reddit as well as our Official Twitter, Instagram, and FaceBook accounts.
To kick things off, here is the clue for the first week:

AfbeeldingTreasure Trails Expansion
Back in July 2016, we released a Treasure Trail Expansion that included Master Clues, new types of challenges, and new rewards. This year we want your help in shaping a new expansion for Treasure Trails. We welcome all feedback, design ideas, and suggestions to help make this expansion to Treasure Trails one of the best yet. Player Designed ContentWe want this expansion to be about your feedback, your suggestions, and your designs. For full transparency, everything listed below are just ideas that we have come up with and we would really like to incorporate player designed content as much as possible in this Treasure Trails expansion.
Afbeelding

Please submit your ideas and designs on the following thread here or email them to OldSchoolCommunity@Jagex.com with design attachments as a JPEG file, including your display name (the name of your character in-game) and using the subject line Treasure Trails Expansion. Players whose design we use for rewards, puzzles, and challenges will have their display name forever commemorated on the noticeboard in Watson's house. So get your ideas out there and let's make this expansion all about you, the players!New Clue Tier (Beginner Clues for F2P)We want clue scrolls to be enjoyed by everyone so we would like to add a Beginner Clue. This short 1-3 step clue will be accessible to both F2P and P2P players and will offer some F2P clue challenges and rewards that you can help design and shape. With Beginner Clue Scrolls, we would like to add a clue scroll tutor to teach new F2P players all about clue scrolls and how they work. Along with the tutor, at the end of X Marks the Spot, players will be given an additional reward of a beginner clue scroll and directed to talk to the new clue tutor to learn more about them. Players who have already completed the quest will still be able to claim the clue. Please note that Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite, and Master clues will remain members only. New Clue PuzzlesFollowing on the success of some of our bigger updates these past couple of years, we would like to add new slider puzzles featuring images of those updates. We would also like to add a completely new puzzle type that could be obtained in Hard, Elite, and Master clues. We are open to any suggestions for challenging puzzles for these clues tiers and for new design images for slider puzzles.
Afbeelding
Re-Rolling Clue StepsSome clue steps require levels that a player hasn't reached or items that they cannot afford. As an alternative, if a player were to do a specific number of clues, they will unlock a re-roll ability for that clue scroll tier. For example, should a player complete a set number of easy clue scrolls, they unlock 1 re-roll for an easy clue scroll step. This re-roll will generate a new step in the place of the current active step on the clue. There is no guarantee that the new step generated will be easier than the step that was skipped.Stackable Clue Scrolls and Reward CasketsWe would like to offer you the ability for players to have more than one clue of the same type in either their inventory or bank. Players will still be able to only complete one clue of each tier at a time. Along with stacking clue scrolls we would like to offer stackable caskets. Upon completion of a clue, the casket you receive can be stored in your bank or inventory and opened at a later time. This will not affect you receiving another casket when completing another clue scroll.
Afbeelding
Expansions to Existing TiersThere's also the option to add new clues rewards to the existing tiers of clue scrolls, and we'd like you all to come up with and design some content for these rewards. Here are some of our ideas below:
  • Cape of Skulls
  • Pirate Outfit
  • Dragonhunter Crossbow Recolours
  • Gilded Dragonhide Set
  • Sandwich Lady Outfit
  • Gnome Scarf Recolours
  • Heraldic Platebodies
  • Runes Cape
  • Gilded Battleaxe
  • Beekeeper Outfit
  • Double Sai
  • Spiked Manacles (footwear slot)
  • Blessed D'hide Shields
  • Wieldable Balloon Animal
  • Wolf Mask and Cloak
  • Staff of Bob the Cat
Afbeelding
Treasure Trails Mimic BossAdditionally, we can add a roll to Treasure Trails in which your casket has a chance at becoming a Mimic that you must defeat in order to receive your reward. This Mimic boss will be found on Elite and Master clue caskets and will give you a warning before proceeding to fight it. Upon defeating the Mimic, you will be greatly rewarded. We'd love your suggestions on the boss fight, any reward ideas, and design concepts.Clue Scroll Graphic ChangesWe would also like to include a graphical change to the way clue scrolls look in your inventory and bank. This is to make it easily distinguishable between the tiers of clue scrolls. We welcome any designs on helping make clue scrolls easier to identify.

AfbeeldingThe Quest
You think you're the hero of this story, but you're not... - Lord IorwerthBig things have small beginnings. Sixteen years ago, the Plague City quest was added to RuneScape. This quest marked the beginning of the fabled elf quest series, the oldest and longest quest series in the game. From elven rebellions to Dark Lords, the series has told a thrilling story with many twists and turns. Now, after all of these years, it's finally time for this story to come to its conclusion with Old School RuneScape's newest Grandmaster quest, Song of the Elves!Song of the Elves will see you team up with a range of characters from across the series to finally put an end to the schemes of Lord Iorwerth and King Lathas. Do not expect this to be easy - you will face challenging puzzles and deadly foes as you fight to bring peace to the elven lands. That's all we're going to say about Song of the Elves for now, as we don't want to ruin the surprises of the quest. However, you can be sure that it will be an epic adventure unlike any other.Poll Question #1
Should the Song of the Elves quest be added to Old School RuneScape?

QoL and CoX Changes

Originele tekst

This week sees the release of several changes and tweaks from the Skilling, Re-run and Miscellaneous weeks of QoL month. Previously promised Chambers of Xeric changes are also included.
AfbeeldingQoL Changes
The changes listed in this post wrap up everything that was polled in both Skilling week and Re-run week, minus the Special Attack Orb change which has been held back for further testing. We are now looking to make a start on the changes from the final month: Miscellaneous. The first of these (regarding the Expert mining gloves) is included below:Prayer Skill GuideThe Prayer skill guide now shows the icon for each prayer rather than a holy symbol.
Afbeelding
Dragon DefenderThe Dragon defender has been updated to appear red rather than pink.
Afbeelding
Hespori Growth IndicatorA plant has been added to indicate when the Hespori is fully grown in the Farming guild. When the plant by the Hespori's cave entrance is sprouted and open, this means the Hespori is ready to be fought or has been killed but not yet looted.
Afbeelding
Expert Mining GlovesThe Expert mining gloves effect now also works when mining Amethyst - giving a chance for the rock to avoid depleting.
AfbeeldingChambers of Xeric Changes
This update brings the last of the changes from the Chambers of Xeric blog we published last month. Although that blog proposed an update to the energy wells in the Chambers, that wasn't so well received, so we're not proceeding with it for now. It can be polled in future if players do turn out to want it. We're also no longer pushing the idea of Xeric's Wards, the items that would earn you the right to avoid an undesirable boss room, at least for now. However, players did make some additional requests in response to the blog. In particular, we'd like to adjust how the Chambers of Xeric scales its NPCs' combat stats and points to suit each party. The current behaviour is to look at the average combat stats of the party members. This has led to parties being disadvantaged if a pure member drags down their averages. We'd like to change it so that it looks at the highest combat stats of any party member, rather than the average ones. For solo trips this won't make a difference, but mixed parties will no longer be so disadvantaged by including pures. That change hasn't been ready for this week's update, but we hope to launch it in early March.
Afbeelding
The Ice DemonThe following changes have been made to improve the experience of facing the Ice Demon room within the Chambers of Xeric:
  • Trees found within the Ice Demon room in Chambers of Xeric are now less likely to fall
  • Players will now receive more wood than before when successfully chopping trees within the room based on Woodcutting level
  • As trees in CoX can now give more wood than before, the Woodcutting XP gained per item of kindling has been reduced slightly
  • The Ice Demon's defences are now lower than before and its magic defence behaviour has also been changed, making it weaker to spells overall including it's additional weakness to fire spells
Other
  • In Challenge Mode, the 5k bonus points are now added to the team's reward

Pures: The forum thread for posting your details regarding unwanted XP gained after last week's update has been closed. We are still investigating ways to fix the issue for affected accounts - we will give updates on the situation as it develops.
  • Clan Wars and Pest control no longer reset the player's autocast spell when they leave
  • Items which are Never protected on death, such as Bounty Hunter Emblems, will now also be lost on death when noted
  • Players may now toggle fake XP drops in the Configure XP Drops interface
  • It is now possible to break rings of forging to reset their charges back to 140 without having to use the ring up fully for it to break. It now works the same way as rings of recoil and the Slayer bracelets work
  • Konar will no longer assign Black, Red, Blue or Green dragons within the Kourend Catacombs if the player has under 100 combat
  • Konar will no longer assign Fire giants in the Waterfall Dungeon to players who haven't yet completed the Waterfall Quest
  • A bit of wall sticking out of one of the Skeletal Mystic's rooms in the Chambers of Xeric has been removed
  • Tweaks to the Vanguard's reset mechanic have been made to ensure they are reset correctly
  • An issue where mobile users who had connection issues while logging in and were not recognised to have a username has been addressed
  • Fully Grown Oak trees grown in the farming guild now have their foliage
  • Damage is no longer taken from bloated swamp toads placed by other players
  • A stray block tile at Brutal Black Dragons was removed
  • Clarity was added to the Desert Diary task for Dust Devils
  • A typo in Konar's hints was fixed
  • A typo in the Falador party room was fixed
  • The AOE sound from the Electric Hydra pet was removed
  • The weight of the Wreath has been reduced from 5KG... it's just a few leaves
  • A message relating to Gricoller's Watering Can was fixed
  • The message for being protected from a Drake's breath by an antifire potion was added to the game filter
  • The Rune pouch is now also given first when withdrawing from gravestones, similar to armour. This does not affect UIM

Bug: Twisted Bows

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingBug: Twisted Bows at the Farming Guild
At the time of this week's update (11:30 GMT - 28/02/2019), a bug entered the game whereby a Twisted bow spawn was added close to the Farming Guild in Kebos. As a result, an unknown number (we are working on this) of Twisted bows entered the game unfairly. Very shortly after (before the hour was out), this was hotfixed to no longer have an option to be picked up or Telegrabbed. 13:35: The game has been turned off while we examine our options and work with various teams to decide what happens next. Rolling back the game is one such option we are considering. More on this will be posted as the situation develops.13:56: We can confirm that the game will be rolled back. You can expect the game to be reset and come back online as it was just before the update at 11:30am GMT this morning. Any changes made to your account between then and now will be reverted and we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience. We estimate that it will take 4-6 hours to complete the rollback.15:30: The game is now back online following the rollback. Thank you all for your patience with us in dealing with the bug. Hardcore ironmen: please note that if you died after the update at 11:30am GMT, you will have been revived and will retain your HCIM status. However, your stats will no longer be tracked on the hiscores. This is due to the hiscores pages re-categorising these accounts as regular ironmen from this point on. As such, your skills will still appear and continue to update on the regular ironman hiscores page. Players who abused the bug to buy bonds and redeem them for membership will have appropriate action taken against their account in the near future. The handful of players that were banned for abusing the bug will instead have their offences reduced to temporary bans. They have received an inbox message regarding their ban. We would like to take this chance to thank you all again for your continued support and feedback throughout this process. As always, this has gone to show your passion for the game.

    • Once only one player remains in an arena they will automatically be teleported onto the next bracket. You will have a short period of time in which to loot from your opponent.
    • Players who are successful at progressing beyond the first bracket will have their inventory wiped of supplies (food and potions) and we will be providing a set number of food and potions potions to even the competition outside of gear upgrades that they have obtained along the way.

AfbeeldingTreasure Trails Expansion Poll Blog
Welcome to the Treasure Trails Expansion Poll blog! In the coming days, we'll be polling an expansion to Treasure Trails. Back in July 2016, we released a Treasure Trails Expansion that included Master Clues, new types of challenges, and new rewards. After the announcement post on Friday the 22nd of February, we went through hundreds of your designs, suggestions, and feedback regarding the upcoming Treasure Trails Expansion. The Old School team agrees that this expansion is set to be one of the best yet!The poll for the below questions will be live on Friday (08/03/2019) and will close on the following Monday (11/03/2019).Changelog

  • Multiple Clues now have a cap of 5 per tier

This short 1-3 step clue will be accessible to both F2P and P2P players and will offer F2P clue challenges and rewards . Following your feedback , this clue scroll will not be part of the requirements to obtain a master clue scroll from Watson.

Alongside Beginner Clue Scrolls, there will be a new tutor to teach new F2P players how clue scrolls work and where to obtain them . In addition, at the end of the X Marks the Spot Quest, players will now be rewarded with a Beginner Clue Scroll and directed to talk to the new clue tutor to learn more about them. Players who have already completed the quest will still be able to claim their Beginner Clue Scroll Reward.

Please note that Easy, Medium, Hard, Elite, and Master clue scrolls will remain members only items.

Some unique reward suggestions from you for Beginner Clues are as follows:
  • Frog Slippers
  • Runes Cape
  • Rune Scimitar Ornament Kit
  • Monk Robes (t)
AfbeeldingNew Clue Puzzles
These new clue puzzles will include new slider puzzles designed by the Old School Community. Most of the designs are focused on highlighting some of our successful updates over the past few years. These new slider puzzles will appear in all clues tiers that currently have a potential to receive a slider puzzle.

Some of the new slider puzzles feature designs inspired by:
  • Raids I: Chambers of Xeric
  • Theatre of Blood
  • Vorkath
AfbeeldingMore Rewards
We had numerous designs and ideas from you for new clue rewards. After sifting through hundreds of ideas the following rewards will need to pass a poll before being put into game. They are as follows:

Cape of Skulls
Afbeelding
  • This cape would skull the player when worn. Just like Amulet of Avarice, when equipping the cape players would be given a warning. The skull will be applied until the cape is unequipped, at which point the skull will disappear after twenty minutes.
  • The cape would have the same stats as an Obsidian Cape.
  • This will be an easy clue reward
  • Provides the following stats:

Spiked Manacles (footwear slot)

  • This barefoot style footwear will have stats comparable to Climbing boots but with a +4 strength bonus and no defence bonuses or quest requirement.
  • This will be a medium clue reward
  • Provides the following stats:

Blessed D'hide Shields
Afbeelding
  • These shields will have stats comparable to a Black d'hide shield but with +1 prayer bonus. They will come in Guthix, Saradomin, Zamorak, Ancient, Armadyl, and Bandos styles to match the blessed dragonhide armour currently in game.
  • This will be a hard clue reward
  • Provides the following stats:

  • This stylish kilt will have stats comparable to Iron platelegs but with +1 strength bonus.
  • This will be an elite reward
  • Provides the following stats:

3rd Age Druidic Set
Afbeelding
  • This will be the final set in the 3rd age set. The Top and Bottoms will require 65 Prayer and Defence to wear.
  • The 3rd Age Druidic Wreath is not included in the set because it is already obtainable in game via Diango's Toy Store.
  • This will be a master clue reward
  • Provides the following stats:
AfbeeldingAfbeelding
If the Treasure Trails expansion is added to the game, a selection of new rewards will be added. These rewards will either be cosmetic or match the stats of items with similar requirements that already exist in game. These would not be polled individually, but rather be included as part of the Treasure Trails expansion and distributed across all tiers of clue scroll. Here are just some of the new rewards that could appear in your reward casket:
  • Uri's Hat
  • Ranger Tights
  • Obby Maul Ornament Kits
  • Gilded Dragonhide Set
  • Gilded Defender Kit
  • 3rd Age Plateskirt
  • Wolf Mask and Cape
  • Sandwich Lady Outfit
  • Heraldic Platebodies
  • Joint of H.A.M (wieldable)
  • Staff of Bob the Cat
  • Double Sai
  • 3rd Age Staff
  • Jester Cape
  • Gnome Scarf Recolours
  • Mole Slippers
  • Gilded Spade
  • Gilded Hatchet and Pickaxe
Poll Question #1
Should a Treasure Trails expansion be added to Old School RuneScape? This expansion will include new challenges and new rewards for the existing tiers of clue scrolls as well as a brand new 'Beginner' tier.

NPCs above 100 combat now have a chance of dropping tier 5 emblems.
The drop rate of Tier 1 emblems on wilderness slayer tasks has been greatly improved. This now matches that of Seasonal/Tournament worlds. Broken items on PvP deathThe broken item system has been brought into Permanent Deadman. As on PvP worlds, throughout most of the game world, items with a 'broken' version will now be broken on death, with the PKer receiving coins based on the repair price. Speak to Perdu to repair your broken kit. Please note, in deeper Wilderness areas, above level 20, the standard behaviour still applies whereby untradeable items are turned into a small quantity of coins for the PKer.Looting Bag

On a Permanent Deadman world, players may put things into the looting bag anywhere outside guarded zones. This now matches the functionality in Seasonal/Tournament worlds.Temple Trekking / Burgh de Rott Ramble
Afbeelding
The Temple Trekking / Burgh de Rott Ramble mini-game is now available, this gives players access to the rewards as well as the Lumberjack outfit.
The clue that requires the lumberjack outfit has not been re-enabled.Slayer XP in instanced Slayer boss roomsAlthough training in instanced areas does not normally give XP on Deadman worlds, some Slayer XP for killing the Grotesque Guardians and Alchemical Hydra will now be awarded as those creatures die.Seed boxThe seed box is now able to be purchased from Farmer Gricoller.
When killed via PvP, the seed box will attempt to move its contents to your bank before the loot is distributed to the PKer. This means any stacks of seeds in the seed box will be possible to be acquired as part of the bank key.

We're proud to announce that everything from the first Song of the Elves poll passed in the polls, meaning the quest and main content will go into game this summer! Now's our chance to go more in depth with the smaller rewards and features you would like to see from Prifddinas. A second poll blog will be posted soon with the top suggestions and ideas for minor content in the Crystal City. If you would like to get involved and potentially have your ideas made reality in Old School, get involved in the discussion on Reddit, Twitter, and the Official Forums. You may remember that we decided not to poll Crystal armour in the first poll as you weren't happy with the final design (in terms of stats and set effect) and neither were we. To make sure we get it right, we're also holding a separate discussion on separate threads on Reddit, Twitter and the Official Forums. Alternatively you can email in your suggestions to OldSchoolCommunity@Jagex.com. The deadline for all suggestions is Friday the 29th of March.

  • Old School RuneScape's 6th Birthday Event has been removed. The birthday event rewards will be available again on our next birthday.
  • A graphical issue with one of the ladders within the essence mine has been fixed.
  • Confirming an offer in the GE multiple times will no longer add multiple entries to the GE History.
  • A message has been added for when a player receives a Golden tench.
  • A bug regarding items kept on death has now been patched.
  • Chambers of Xeric scaling will now be based on the player with the highest combat level rather than the average. This is means that if a team of level 80 players takes someone with 126 combat, their raid will be scaled around 126 combat rather than their average which would be much lower and would in turn give them fewer points.
  • On Friday 8th March at 5pm Game Time, we are delighted to be celebrating International Women's Day. We have teamed up with the IAMA team on Reddit, and a group of female JMods will be online and answering questions about their careers and the games industry, we hope to have you tune in!

Hosidius Rework and QoL Changes

Originele tekst

AfbeeldingHosidius House Rework and QoL Poll Blog
Welcome to the Hosidius House rework poll blog that is due to go to an in game poll this Saturday. In October 2018, Mod West pitched a Hosidius rework blog that included changes to the overall layout, Tithe Farm, and Dungeon. After taking on board feedback from the players, he has completed the final changes to the rework, ready for polling.

If you want to learn more about the initial announcement of Hosidius House rework, we recommend you check out the original blog. We're also including some smaller QoL change questions at the bottom of the post. This is part of our effort to clear the backlog and streamline gameplay for older content. The poll for the below questions will be live on Saturday(16/03/2019) and closed on Tuesday(19/03/2019).Rework ChangelistThis is a list of the key changes to Hosidius described in this blog.
  • The Tithe farm has been reduced in size from 31 patches to 10 and moved out of the center of Hosidius and onto the southern coast.
  • The 8 north-most plow fields have been removed and the entrance to Kourend has been improved.
  • The player farm has been moved from the coast to south of the main town so that it is far more central.
  • Due to the Tithe farm mini-game teleport being moved quite close to where the Glade teleport currently is, the Glade teleport on Xeric's Talisman has been moved to be closer to the player farm, so as to not impact on any of your farm runs!
  • The size of the grapevines have been reduced considerably as they did not resemble a typical vinery. The older assets have been shrunken (by about 50%) and kept as scenery within the vinery.
  • The saltpetre deposits have been moved closer together along with a brand new centralised deposit box. The clerk who accepts saltpetre donations has also been moved here.
  • Most houses and businesses have been moved into the area where the Tithe previously was, this includes: Little Shop of Horace aka. The General Store, Various market stalls, Estate Agents, Farming Store, Food Store, Church, Bank, and The Golden Field Pub.
  • The southern church has been converted into a priest camp.
  • The guard dogs have retired from their post at the cooking store.

Kourend Rework 2: Hosidius House
The following words are from Mod West to explain all the proposed changes to the largest house of Kourend.
Afbeelding
Left: the current Hosidius House layout. Right: the proposed layout. Click or tap the image for an enlarged version
The Kourend Rework that we implemented in late 2016 helped tackle the issues of Zeah's overall shape, the lack of bodies of water and the absence of castles. What it failed to do was address the issue with building size as this would have required tweaking the wall kits, which at the time, was way beyond the scope of the project. If you take the area of all banks in Old School RuneScape, you'll find the largest on the mainland is Varrock west (not including the Grand Exchange, of course) with an area of roughly 165, while the biggest bank on Zeah is Arceuus bank at an area of 324. That's almost twice the size of Varrock west. The size of a bank may not mean much to you, but think of it this way - when 5 people are stood in Seers' Village bank, it seems busy. However, if you have the same amount of players stood in either the Arceuus, Shayzien or Hosidius bank, the place seems empty. This perpetuates the misconception that Kourend is a ghost town which is something we'd like to change.Another issue that didn't get addressed was how bloated a lot of the houses feel, which is a side effect of the building sizes. In this blog I'd like to go through some proposed changes to the design of the Hosidius House in particular. If you have any questions about the rework or my future projects, feel free to reach out to me on twitter, @JagexWest.
AfbeeldingTithe Farm
Afbeelding
The Tithe Farm is currently the central location of Hosidius House and fills an entire map square for very little reason. Firstly, the Tithe minigame is instanced and a single player (after a fair amount of practise) can at most plant 20 fruits simultaneously, which equates to 5 patches. There are 31 patches - that's about 26 too many. Secondly, the location makes traversing Hosidius House a pain, as there is always going to be at least 1 map square you have to run around to get anywhere else. In my proposal, the Tithe Farm has been shrunk to accommodate 40 plantable locations (10 patches with four spots each) and moved to the south-eastern corner of Hosidius House, where there is currently a farming patch and some cows.Due to the Tithe farm minigame teleport being moved close to where the Glade teleport is currently, the Glade teleport on Xeric's Talisman has been moved to be closer to the player farm, so as to not impact any farm runs. Also, a notable change is the lack of Logava Gricoller's Cooking Supplies store, or by its more known name, Xeric's Glade. Now that the farming patch has been moved, the only notable feature here is the Tithe Farm, which has its own minigame teleport so the need for a teleport to be here is reduced. Logavas' store has been moved into the main town market, while the building was moved to the north of the Vinery. Additionally, the guard dogs have retired from their post at the cooking store.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingHosidius Town
Once the Tithe Farm has been moved, a large area of land will have been freed up to be utilised in an interesting way. What's more interesting than a new town!
Afbeelding
Most buildings seen in the image above are not new, but rather relocated, and in some cases have had their layout changed. The only new buildings are the ones directly north of the Farmers Market and the rounded building east of the market, which are a Corn Exchange and a Granary respectively. The house of Lord Hosidius has been moved from its previous location east of the Vinery, the chapel has also been moved over and a ruin has now appeared in its wake. Other notable features are the moving of the main bank and the pub, as well as the appearance of a Farmers Market. Most houses and businesses have been moved into this area where the Tithe previously was, this includes: Little Shop of Horace aka. The General Store, Various market stalls, Estate Agents, Farming Store, Food Store, Church, Bank, and The Golden Field Pub.Note that the southern church in Hosidius has been converted into a priest camp. Following this, the priest Charlie Brown decided to move away from the area. There are a few new additions around the outskirts of this town too. To the south is the new location of the farming patch and the Glade teleport, to the west is a ruined temple and to the north there now features a flax field and some cows.
AfbeeldingWestern Hosidius
Afbeelding
Western Hosidius is now far emptier due to the houses being moved into the town, giving more space for the Hosidius kitchen, as well as reshaping of the Mess to have a smaller footprint. Another notable change is Watson's house - he's had a bit of an upgrade.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingRuined Temple Dungeon - aka 'Hosidius Dungeon'
Those of you who read the original blog may remember a unique dungeon that was pitched for the Hosidius House. The design is still a work in progress and can be expected to be revisted at a later date. In the meantime, it has been removed from this poll blog and won't be polled until we are more confident in committing to this piece of content.
AfbeeldingForthos Ruin & Saltpetre
Afbeelding
The Forthos Ruin is a relic of old Kourend, a stronghold that was utilised during the war of the five houses. After King Kharedst I rebuilt the kingdom, he demanded all strongholds be abandoned and a single castle would be built on the fields of war where the main battle took place. Before the war, Hosidius House was built around a Saltpetre deposit - this invaluable resource is what made Hosidius House the powerhouse of farming trade that it still is today. However, the old town is now occupied by a small company that operate the Saltpetre distribution to all of Kourend.Due to the moving of the bank, you'd imagine this may make collecting saltpetre a hassle, but worry not! The saltpeter deposits have been moved closer together and a deposite box has been added in the centre of them. The clerk who accepts saltpetre donations has also been moved here. The shortcut has been moved farther north and the shortcuts old location now houses a bridge. This improves the flow of the area and puts the spirit tree almost as close to the farming patch as the house portal.
Afbeelding
AfbeeldingKings Town
Afbeelding
Kourend castle has always felt like part of Hosidius House, this is likely due to it sharing the same style of paths. These paths don't really fit the Hosidius House all too well due to being a house that focuses on farming, not Roman style roads. The entrance has now been improved graphically and raised to give a more imposing feel. Now that Hosidius town has all the houses that used to take up this space, opportunities for parks and houses for the council arise, creating a small central town of its own. This helps to create a buffer around Hosidius house, avoiding Kourend looking like a kingdom sized city. This will be explored further with Arceuus house and Lovakengj house.

Updated Quest Panel, Sandstone Grinder and QoL

Originele tekst

This week sees the release of a player-submitted rework for the Quest side-panel, Drew and his Sandstone machine and Quality of Life changes.
AfbeeldingThe Quest Panel
Thanks to GentleTractor's preliminary designs, we have updated the Quest side panel to have a more intuitive tab system. This will now allow you to switch more easily between the Quest, Achievement Diaries, Minigames and Kourend Favour lists. There is scope for further tabs to be added if necessary, however we think that suggestions we have received so far such as a player summary tab would be better placed elsewhere in the user interface.

The changes below include some of those suggested during the final week of QoL month: Miscellaneous.Oldak Accepts Noted Glass

The Brimstone Chest found by Konar on Mount Karuulm now tracks the amount of times the player has opened it. Once we've gathered your ideas and put together our own, a second poll blog will be posted with the top suggestions for minor content in the Crystal City.

In this blog we hope to demonstrate that we're aware of the concerns that you have, and invite you to help us resolve them.

Old School RuneScape recently celebrated its 6th birthday, and it's safe to say that throughout that time we've gone from strength to strength. The recent release of Old School Mobile has been met with a phenomenal response, building a strong future for the game we know and love.

But we can't just be satisfied with how far we have come - we need to make sure that we're listening to our players and acting on their concerns. There are some topics we need to be more open about. In this blog we hope to demonstrate that we're aware of the concerns that you have, and invite you to help us resolve them.

Player Support and Account Security

The subject of Jagex customer support is one that has been raised increasingly across social channels in recent weeks. To address some of the points that we've received:

Account Security/recovery:
  • We have seen many comments suggesting that our account security is not as effective as it needs to be, and that the systems we do have in place (such as authenticator) are not doing enough to protect against things such as account hijacking.
  • There is frustration at the lack of a lost items policy (outside of extreme circumstances).
  • Account recovery difficulties are being encountered.
Customer Support:
  • The belief that the only way to contact Customer Support is via Reddit & Twitter.
  • A desire for more effective direct communication channels.
  • That the support centre is a maze of FAQs.
Anti-Cheating:
  • It feels like there are too many bots in some areas of the game.
  • There's a perception that some bans are unfair or false, for example with bans applied when an account is hijacked.
Over the coming weeks and months, we want to build on the areas above and build a detailed understanding of what the main issues are for all players - not only those active on social media.

To demonstrate our commitment, these are the three things we aim to do this year:
  • 1. We will continually survey all players, rather than just those on Reddit or Twitter, to understand what you think is important from a Customer Support perspective. We'll use this to inform our priorities and measure our progress.
  • 2. A series of detailed blogs on these topics will outline plans involving:
    • Upgrading our systems
    • Account security, recovery and lost items
    • Challenging myths about Customer Support
    • Toxicity in game
  • 3. Updating you regularly when things get fixed, released or improved.
We won't promise the moon and deliver an orange. However, Jagex has already scheduled significant work on Customer Support and Account Management systems in 2019. Some of this is already underway in the background, and some won't begin until later in the year.

The reality is that the many of our systems are bespoke, meaning we face legacy issues. We are working to improve our systems and processes, and in 2019 we have already increased our investment in these areas. And there is more to come.

We understand that this is our problem, not yours. But we also want you to understand our situation, and then hopefully see why some of the support you currently receive isn't as good as it needs to be. Please do understand that we are changing that.

To be totally honest, there are no quick fixes. These significant issues will take time to tackle. And we will talk about it all as openly and honestly as we can in the coming months.

Jagex Customer Support Team members, tools and systems serve both Old School and RuneScape, so we will be sharing this to both communities.

Fixing Old Content

We are frequently asked to place less focus on new content and instead concentrate more on existing content. Player activity data proves that new content is a big driver for the community, but nonetheless we strongly agree that older content needs more attention. And work has already been moving in that direction.

Although January kicked off with the Kebos expansion, most of the updates since then have concentrated on existing content. This includes the balancing work in the Chambers of Xeric and the delivery of long-requested features to w45 (the permanent Deadman world). Much of the work polled in February focused on adjusting existing content, too.

Moving forward, we definitely feel there's more to be done, especially in regard to neglected content. In particular, players have provided numerous suggestions for rebalancing older weapons so that more weapon types have useful niches. Updates to various minigames have also been requested. Over the past few months we have been adding new developers to the Old School team, and you can expect to see their impact on the game soon. These differences will become more obvious through April, both in our communications and our updates.

Bug Fixes

We know in the past couple of months that there have been some high-profile issues with content releases. This has rightly led to many questions from the community about our processes, and some believe that our launches are being rushed. We acknowledge that none of this has been good enough, and we apologise for that. We'd also like to tell you what we've been doing to improve this:
  • We have restructured our processes to allow for more testing time prior to release.
  • We've begun investing more in better tooling to help us increase test coverage and prevent major issues. One of the tools being developed would have directly prevented the recent twisted bow issue and subsequent rollback.
  • We've reviewed our release processes and are making changes to improve the stability of our releases.
  • It has always been standard practice for us that when an issue arises it is discussed, and an investigation into the root cause is conducted, allowing us to learn from it. We're continuing this with a view to fix the issues at their source as opposed to temporary solutions.
Some of these changes may impact the rate we deliver our updates as the team gets up to speed. Our goal will be to minimise this disruption and make sure you are getting a better service overall.

Every single person in the Old School team is dedicated to the quality of our releases. All of the changes and improvements are being made as a team. This goes from the initial idea, through to development and then release, as well as everything in between.

At the end of the day, everyone in the team plays and loves the game too. We care about providing something we can all enjoy. We genuinely appreciate your passion, and that you care enough to call us out on this - please keep doing it. It holds us to account and ensures we make the necessary improvements.

Polling

We've all seen your requests to hide poll results. We polled it previously, and we've discussed it on livestreams before. The truth is that we think there's more to address with the polling system than simply hiding poll results. It's important for us to understand why you want the poll results hidden, and what you think it would solve. To do that we need to understand how you feel about polling in its entirety, rather than making changes without understanding the roots of the problem.

Polling is an incredibly important factor in what makes Old School the game it is. However, only a very small number of players actually vote in the content polls. Why? Perhaps there's a huge number of players who are disenfranchised with content polls, or are even unaware that polling exists. However, maybe a lot of players simply choose not to vote, preferring instead to trust the opinion of dedicated voters. We are looking at how and why players vote or do not vote, and we will find ways to improve the voting experience for everyone.

As an example of one of the challenges, we've all seen the 'vote no to PvP polls' memes. It's difficult if content is added to the game which only benefits smaller niche group of players, whilst having a minimal impact on the wider player base. Before we can set a strategy for how we resolve it, we need to establish what you really think about these issues.

We also want to understand whether polling in its current format works for you. Are you happy with the way that your ideas and feedback are translated into the questions we poll? Is there a better way of using the poll system to work alongside one another to deliver exciting content that you want?

We've began undertaking extensive research to answer these questions, and that will guide any changes we make. We'll maintain the conversation with you each time we make meaningful steps.

The state of PvP

It might seem like we've forgotten PvP, but strengthening PvP and competitive gaming is a key priority of ours. Old School has had incredible success with our competitive events, and we continue to enjoy an engaged PvP playerbase. With that said, there is no quick fix. In the section above we mentioned the difficulties posed by polling PvP content. It's crucial to resolve our approach to introducing content geared towards PvPers before we can make notable changes.

We want to talk to you a lot more to make sure we're making the correct decisions. In the past we've established working groups with players who engage in the PvP scene and this approach certainly has its strengths. However, it also means that when it comes to PvP content, we've historically ignored those players who have stopped PvPing, or who don't PvP. So, we intend to establish a process to involve those of you from different player groups. We're a thriving MMORPG full of players who engage in lot of different types of content. It'd be wrong not to involve everybody, even if the updates are catered towards specific groups.

We've discussed reworks to the likes of Bounty Hunter and Last Man Standing in the past. But we want to make sure we are focusing on what will make the biggest difference to PvP. We believe that there are more fundamental changes that need to be made and working with our core PvP community will help us to make the right decisions to fix the root of the issues, not just band aid the problem.

We know that content changes for Deadman Spring and Deadman Summer have disappointed our dedicated Deadman players. This was part of a conscious decision we've made. We want to breathe new life into Deadman - we have some monumental changes coming later this year and we are sure they will blow you away. We aren't able to share precise details just yet, but we've never attempted anything to the scale of what we're planning to do.

We've spoken about how we want to involve you, but it's equally as important to make sure we are strengthening our in-house team. With a new Director of Community and the impending arrival of a Head of Esports, coupled with continued recruitment of content developers, we're positioning ourselves to be able to take PvP and competitive gaming further than ever before.

Old School has grown with, and because, of the deep connection between the team and the players. This blog is just the start of how we will work together to make this game even better. We know we have a way to go and we know this will be a journey. We want to bring you all on that journey with us. Watch out for more updates on the topics here in the coming weeks, including in a livestream tomorrow (Wednesday March 20th) which will feature some of the Old School leadership team, at 5pm GMT on Twitch.

AfbeeldingPure XP Bug
At the time of February 21st's update, a bug entered the game where players would receive incorrect combat XP when using specific weapons. As a result, numerous players received unwanted XP in the wrong combat skill. Within an hour of the update going live, this bug was hotfixed. Later that day, we made a Forum Thread to allow those affected by the bug to enter details of accounts that gained unwanted XP. This forum thread was advertised on social media as well as the in-game broadcast messaging system. The forum thread was left open for a week to allow everyone time to enter in their account information post hotfix.

Over the past couple of weeks numerous departments have been working around the clock to discuss a potential fix, gather display names, investigate the unwanted XP claim, implement a system to rollback the XP, and write up communications regarding the rollback. This has not been a quick process and we would like to take the time to thank you all for your patience regarding the matter. Following the game update and some live testing, if your account met the criteria for a rollback, you will receive an in-game message upon login that will let you know whether your level(s) have been rolled back.

Due to the nature of the rollback, we can only rollback accounts to a set level rather than remove a specific amount of unwanted XP. We cannot rollback quests that have been completed.

The accounts that will receive a rollback met the following criteria:
  • Correctly posted the requested information on the Forum Thread
  • Genuinely received unwanted combat XP as a direct result of the bug/ Attack Style change
  • Did not abuse the XP gain by completing quests they wouldn't normally be able to complete
In cases where players had changed their names after requesting an XP rollback via the thread, we've aimed to track down their accounts so as to apply the rollback they wanted. However, if we were not able to identify you, you did not receive a rollback but believe you should, or you did not get a chance to add your name to the forum thread before it closed, we advise you tosubmit an Account Help Ticket. In the Other section, please include information regarding the unwanted XP you gained, what level you need the skill to be reset to, and what type of build the account is. When filling out the form please take note of the criteria listed above to make the process as smooth as possible. The completed claim will then be reviewed by multiple departments for consideration for a potential XP rollback in the next batch.

Rolling back individual accounts is a new process we couldn't perform before that we've worked hard to implement in the live game. As such, we will perform the rollbacks over a period of two days rather than all at once to make sure it works as intended. If you are expecting to be rolled back but are not rolled back right away, please wait for two days before submitting an Account Help Ticket as described above.

Due to the long wait for this rollback, players who will have their unwanted XP removed will receive 21 days of membership as a display of our gratitude towards your patience throughout the process.Note: The deadline for submitting an Account Help Ticket for the above is 22/04/2019. We would like to take this time to thank you all again for your continued support and feedback.

The Seed Vault

Originele tekst

This week sees the release of the highly anticipated Seed Vault in the Farming Guild!
AfbeeldingThe Seed Vault
A brand new Seed Vault has been added to the Farming Guild in Kebos! Stored seeds are separated by type and you can add your favourites to their own section - perfect for setting up your Farming runs. Note, however, that it only stores standard seeds (all of them), not quest ones.
Afbeelding
Here are some words from Mod Maz about the project: The seed vault started out as a project to add to the Farming Guild and was initially started by Mod Munro. With his departure, it was left without an owner and no real time to take it on. I loved the idea so much and farming is my favourite skill so I really wanted to see it in the game. So, I used my own time to get the majority of the interface working and then we brought it into the dev team officially. This enabled me to spend enough time on it to make it as easy to use as possible. It features buttons similar to the bank for withdrawing and depositing seeds so you can get to them quickly. Even better is the favourite slot feature - 8 slots you can direct what seeds to contain, either by dragging and dropping or right-clicking any of the seeds in your vault. Whilst this is currently 8 slots, it potentially could be increased by a few in the future if needed. The list on the left panel allows you to quickly hop between categories of seed in case you do not wish to use the favourites feature. On top of this, helpful players highlighted to me the Miscellania Kingdom gives seeds, and hence I have integrated the seed vault into that functionality too. If you have existing seeds of the type you are going to receive in the seed vault already, the seeds will go to your seed vault, not your bank. If you don't have any of those seeds in the vault, then it will use your bank. From a technical perspective, the project wasn't that difficult, the worst bit was actually making the dragging and dropping work correctly in the different scenarios of whether the place it was being dropped to was a favourite slot or not. Obviously with any project with usability features, it is subjective as to what is best and some of the feedback from playthroughs reflected the same considerations that I'd made whilst designing it. Sometimes there is no right way to implement a particular feature and therefore different people will want things to have different behaviour - this can be tricky to balance and rationalise to make good decisions and I hope I have struck a happy medium with the behaviour that it currently exhibits. If you have any constructive feedback on your seed vault experience, I'd love to hear it on the forums, twitter or reddit. I love farming and working on interfaces, so I've really enjoyed working on this project. I only wish we'd gone with the giant iron squirrel model for the vault...Note that Ultimate Ironmen will not have access to the seed vault as it was agreed that this would be too powerful for the game mode.

AfbeeldingUpcoming Ironman Change: Cannons
We're aware that there are several mechanics within Old School that threaten the integrity of the Ironman mode. Fixing the situation is a delicate affair, however, so rather than rush in with huge sweeping changes we're going to be tackling each issue on-by-one to make sure each change works as intended. One such issue is the use of Cannons on alt accounts to lure monsters, which is achieved by reducing the alt's attack bonuses to a point that the Cannon never hits. Such strategies artificially boost the XP rates for Ironman accounts. While current rules and mechanics technically allow this, it undoubtedly goes against the spirit of the mode. To maintain the value of Ironmen, it's important that the best methods of gaining experience or items do not rely on interactions with other accounts.A change in next week's update that will alleviate this issue. Our proposal is to give Cannons a small chance to deal 1 damage even for players with low accuracy. This damage will only occur if the NPC is above a certain health threshold to ensure legitimate accounts to not accidentally kill creatures with it unnecessarily and also to limit the ability for lower levelled players to abuse the guaranteed hit of 1. Additionally, this damage is only applied if the player would have previously not hit due to negative attack bonuses. Players using cannons correctly will not have an increase in DPS from this change. Overall, these changes should limit NPC being able to be lured via alternate accounts for Ironmen only.

Deadman Spring Finals - In Retrospect

Originele tekst

Since the Deadman Finals on Saturday evening we've been investigating what caused the issues we faced during the tournament. It was only once we had a solid understanding of the events that we could share any information. In this newspost we'll share information about the issues we encountered on Saturday.

Firstly, apologies are due. Players who have invested considerable time and effort saw their progress undone in seconds, and it is not good enough.

We returned to the office today, and we've spent time identifying the exact issues, and what caused them. You can click the tags below for insight into our findings:

Click here to read the issues log.

8:38pm GMT. We first encountered an issue when the surviving players from the Falador final area were teleported to the 1v1 Arena. Once a player is teleported to the 1v1 Arena, the rest of the world is filled with dangerous fog for that player. This is to ensure they are instantly killed if they are somewhere they should not be. To enable this, the 1v1 arenas are uniquely marked so that the game knows where fog should be. However, of the 128 arenas that players were teleported into, the majority were not uniquely marked as they should have been. Because of this, the game assumed that the players in those arenas were somewhere they shouldn't be and instantly killed them.

During the Permadeath stage, a player who dies is teleported to a jail cell in Falador and then logged out. They are unable to log back in from this point, as during the Permadeath stage, we do not let dead players back in under any circumstances. During the teleports to the 1v1 arenas, 93 players were killed.

The Permadeath stage has a pause feature, which is designed to be used if issues are encountered during the tournament. This pause can be manually activated, but it will also be automatically triggered by the game if more than 50 people are logged off at once. Because of the deaths in the 1v1 Arena, and the subsequent log outs, the tournament was automatically paused at this point.

Of the players killed, 54 were logged out. However, before the remaining players (39) could be logged out, the tournament was automatically paused, leaving these players in the Falador jail.

9:30pm GMT. We were not able to return players who were logged out to play, but we made the decision to try to afford the players left in the Falador jail an opportunity at playing competitively by resupplying them with stats and items. These players were then teleported to the 1v1 Arena to be joined by the players from the Annakarl final area.

Play was resumed in the Annakarl final area shortly after. We expected the players would be teleported right away, due to the remaining player count being below 256. However, at the time we resumed there were roughly 170 players remaining in the area, meaning that more players needed to die to trigger the teleport.

10:13pm GMT. Once the survivors from Annakarl rejoined the Falador survivors, we encountered another issue. Some of the areas contained three players. The cause is unknown, but we believe it is related to the manual teleporting of the Falador jail players. To tackle this we manually teleported players into different arenas.

11:06pm GMT. The 1v1 stages began. No issues were encountered until the Semi-Finals.

12:28am GMT. During the first semi-final, an issue was encountered which caused one of the players to be incorrectly 'marked' as the winner, and was teleported to the Final prior to the fight ending. This was caused by the game thinking the arena was smaller than it actually was. The player 'marked' as the loser ran to the outer edge of the arena, and were consequently incorrectly considered to have left the fight, 'marking' the opponent as the winner. We restocked both players and restarted.

1:15am GMT. The tournament ended with no further issues.

The issues we've detailed would have been identified if we conducted a large-scale beta playtest of the Permadeath stage in the days prior, just as we have done for the past few events. We made the wrong decision when we opted not to conduct a beta.

We've spent today identifying possible resolutions, and now we need to take time to see what is most viable over the next few days. The decision we make has to be the right one, and so we need more time to choose the outcome that works best for you.

We're committed to doing what's right by you. It's a priority of ours, and as soon as we have more information to share, we'll share it.
